Chapter Thirty

{time to move}

Cramped tightly inside the one space, the squad found themselves all reunited in the back of Hoseok's van, not yet assessing the damage Taehyung's vehicle had taken from the hit. Scrunching his hair in-between his fingers, seated up against the wall, Namjoon couldn't help but let out a drastic sigh of relief, "That was so close..." he spoke, recalling when the symptoms of the Cordyceps infection began to surface within Hoseok.

He recalled back to when mere minutes ago the orange haired male began to give in. Pain had seared through Hoseok's body better than a branding iron, his mind conceding to the torment, unable to bring a thought to completion. Without meaning too, Hoseok had found his body curling into something fetal as his pain burned and radiated. He cried and screamed for the torturous pain to stop, for someone to shoot him right then and there. And looking into Hoseok's pleading eyes filled with agony... Namjoon almost did it. He was so close to ending the life of his best friend, but he didn't. He couldn't.

And he was glad he didn't, because just after a few minutes had passed by Taehyung had burst into the van. It was the first time any of them had seen Taehyung go into 'serious' mode, acting like the doctor and scientist he should be, as he frantically unclipped the case, swiping out a thin glass tube of the antidote. Namjoon recalled the moment of pure relief when Taehyung secured the liquid in a needle, loosing no time in injecting it straight into Hoseok's throbbing veins.

In the nick of time,

Hoseok had been saved.

"...Thank you, Taehyung, Jungkook." Namjoon said sincerely, peeling his eyes away from the floor as he thanked the two males seated side by side in front of him.

Taehyung could clearly see the affects that the situation had had on the squad. Seated against the corner of the van were Daisy and Hoseok.

Back rested against the wall, Hoseok had fallen fast asleep after being too physically exhausted. Daisy was snuggled up by his side, head comfortably rested in his chest and blanket draped over the both of them. She too was asleep, teary eyes flickered shut as her and her brave partner got some long deserved peace.

Namjoon was still worked up over the whole incident, adrenaline levels still high as he tensed in place. Head in his hands, Tessa spoke no words as she allowed him to sought out his emotions, rubbing a gentle hand against his shoulder.

Beside him, Jungkook was reasonably calm, body pressed against Taehyung's side. He'd come to terms with the incident, taking a moment to regain himself after literally shooting a man dead. Taehyung had managed to play his part in calming the male down, but it was now up to Daisy to asses the physical damage Jungkook had taken on from his battle. Bruised cheek, cut lip, winded stomach... it was going to take Jungkook a bit of time to recover.

Unlike the rest of the squad, Yoongi and Jimin were both seated upfront, silent as they watched the drama settle down. After Taehyung and Jungkook had arrived, Yoongi and Jimin both made sure to return to the battle zone, interrogating anyone still conscious for any pieces of information they might of had about Jungkook.

"I think it's about time we discussed this." Yoongi piped up, voice slightly softer then usual to prevent waking the couple soundly sleeping in the back of the van. At the sound of Yoongi's voice, Namjoon brought his head from his hands, eyes trailing over to meet the blue haired male's.

Namjoon sighed, "We should." Namjoon spoke up, "We can't dwell on what happened, we're under the clock right now."

"I agree." Tessa commented, drawing her hand away from Namjoon's shoulder as she turned her attention towards the front, "It's only a matter of time before we run into trouble again, we've gotta make up our minds on what to do next." she spoke, tucking a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear. "Yoongi... what did you get out of the rebels?"

Turning to the side of his seat, Yoongi turned towards the squad, "They were hired by camp Alpha." he said bluntly, not sugar coating anything as he gnawed at the inside of his cheek, "After Jungkook escaped camp Delta with the assistance of Hoseok, the word spread like wildfire." he explained, before turning the conversation over to Jimin.

Fluffy strands of blonde hair falling messily over his eyes, Jimin nod, "Exactly. In a matter of one week, pretty much every camp now knows of our squad... well, of Jungkook to be more precise." Jimin stated, pausing before he continued, "I'm not surprised camps are hiring rebels to try and claim Jungkook as their own sick test subject." Jimin spat, shivering at the idea of Jungkook being taken into custody by any camp other then Beta.

It seemed Jungkook was also slightly concerned about more possible encounters with rebel groups. It had just taken him such a massive effort to fend off one small group of city rebels, he didn't want to be a wanted man for the rest of his life.

"There's one more thing." Yoongi spoke, "Camps are after Taehyung as well... and not for any good reasons."

In a split second, Taehyung had leapt to his feet, wild eyed and bewildered as he stood there in complete shock, "Hang on..." Taehyung chuckled, a deep non-humorous chuckle as he began to pace over the little floor space left available inside the van, "Why on earth would rebels be after me!?" Taehyung bellowed, raising his voice to the point where Yoongi was becoming increasingly worried about waking Hoseok. "Everyone is allied with me! I'm on every camps good side because of the temporary cure I provide!" he sputtered, stopping in his tracks as he turned towards Yoongi.

"It was like that. Before camps got wind of you travelling with Jungkook." Yoongi began to explain. "Now that you've aligned yourself with Jungkook, camps now have a reason to believe that you actually have a way to create a cure. They want to be the camp that gets all the credit, they want you and Jungkook in their possession." he finished explaining.

It all made sense. The camps didn't care about finding a cure- only about them being the ones to fine it! "Us humans really are funny." Taehyung chuckled, devilishly as his eyes trailed to the roof, "We just trample over others as if they were nothing but insects! Heck- we're more demonic then demons are! Everyone's full of ugliness, I guess it's just how humans are." Taehyung spoke, voice trailing off as his eyes remained mindlessly glued to the ceiling.

It was now so obvious to Jungkook, why Taehyung was so distant with everyone always pushing himself and others away. Something told Jungkook that,

Taehyung simply didn't trust people.

Brushing off Taehyung's words, Namjoon slowly rose to his feet turning towards both Jimin and Yoongi, "So as of this moment, the only publicly known members of the squad are Hoseok, Taehyung and Jungkook?" Namjoon asked, wanting to confirm that no one else had been discovered to be affiliated with the small runaway group they had put together.

Jimin simply nod his head, running his hands through his hair, pushing the loose strands away from his eyes, "Yeah... Daisy was never registered by camp Delta, Yoongi and I are basically unknowns, and you and Tessa haven't been discovered as of yet." Jimin explained, watching as Namjoon rose his hand to his jaw, seemingly pondering in his place.

Namjoon knew that if both Delta and Alpha had been notified of the squad, news would have reached his camp for sure. He feared that once the two camps found out about his absence from Beta, and about his position in protecting Jungkook, his camp would eventually; disassociate themselves from the big 3, outcast Namjoon from the camp, or if worst came to worst, be overthrown by Alpha or Delta.

Sensing the sudden tension, Jungkook spoke up, "I suggest we stop twiddling our thumbs and move now." Jungkook began to speak, his voice as squadron leader landing all eyes on him, "I know camp Delta, and they'll stop at nothing to get me back... we need to move, it's already mid-afternoon and we can't travel at night."

"I agree." Yoongi spoke from upfront, leaping to his feet as he made his way into the back of the van, "while we were out, Jimin and I checked up on Taehyung's van. It took a lot of effort, but we were able to push it back upright." Yoongi explained, before turning his eyes to Namjoon, "It's drivable, but the front window is completely smashed. It's gonna be dangerous to stay in." he finished, leaving Namjoon to come up with a reasonable plan.

Time was ticking and the sun was setting. It wouldn't be too long before the sky transformed into hues of orange, and then almost tangerine, merging with clouds of cotton candy, blushed at the warmth of the sun.

"It's too dangerous traveling inside the one vehicle. If we ever loose one, we'd need a backup." Jungkook spoke up, still seated on the floor of the van, "We can drive both vans, but at night, we all need to sleep in here for safety reasons. Sound good?" Jungkook said, raising a brow as he questioned the leader of camp Beta.

They had no time to sit around and come up with a better plan. Namjoon already had a rundown of the city route, he was sure he could drive until nightfall without Hoseok's assistance.

Running a hand through his overly-bleached hair, Namjoon bit down on his lip,

"Alright, lets get a move on."

{Author Note}

Bit of an information chapter to thin out all the tension from the last couple of chapters. I don't want this book to feel too rushed.

Hope you're all enjoying the story!
