Chapter Forty-One

{battle against the living}

They had gone unnoticed.

The squad from camp Delta definitely had no idea that hiding just behind the last few police cars were none other then the runaway group they were so desperately searching for.

In the few seconds that followed Jungkook gestured for the squad to space out, giving them all a higher chance of succeeding in this battle. Yoongi and Jimin were quick to scurry over to a police car parked in front, breathing almost catching in their throats as a camp Delta official almost turned his attention their way. Hoseok on the other hand went alone, feet brushing quietly against the fresh dewy grass as he swiftly made his way to a different police car, giving a quick thumbs up once he was securely hidden behind the clump of rusted metal. Namjoon stayed in position, hauling his backpack off his tired shoulders before rummaging through it's contents beginning to craft anything of use with the limited materials he had left on hand.

In contrast, Jungkook, Jin, Taehyung and Daisy took an opportunity to get closer towards the entrance of the government science facility. "Alright." Jungkook spoke up, voice hushed as he huddled together with the small group, "Are you guys sure you're up for this?"

Daisy nod her head, lengthy chestnut curls bouncing a little as she placed a warm hand of reassurance against Jungkook's shoulder, "We'll be fine, just focus on keeping us covered from out here." she smiled before removing her hand from his shoulder.

Starring into Daisies luscious green orbs Jungkook couldn't help but feel hesitant in letting the three scientists storm the building, but yet again, it was much more dangerous outdoors and exposed then inside the comfort of the lab. Jungkook had to remember that Taehyung and Jin both knew about the facilities layout. There'd be no one better suited then them.

Letting out a short breath, Jungkook turned towards Taehyung, "You only need the files right?" he asked, still a little confused as to why Taehyung was so dead set on finding his father's files more so than his notes.

Taehyung nod as he swept a few strands of brunette hair from his eyes, "Yeah, if worst comes to worst the files are all I need." he explained, slipping a hand into the pocket of his lab coat as he pulled out a government ID card.

The group fell into silence once again as Jungkook took a moment to think. The trees rustled ever so slightly in the autumn breeze, the chirping of birds calming him as he soaked in the moment of peace. His jeans were becoming soaked once again from the muddy grass below him and Jungkook couldn't help but feel nervous. During all of his four years at camp Delta he had never treasured a squad more so then he treasured the people before him. They had complete trust in one another. The squad was now waiting on his signal.

Jungkook took in the freshly calm air with that hint of an earthly aroma, the fragrance of the land. Just being there brought his soul into a sweet surrender, at one with nature, vibrant yet relaxed. He filled his lungs with one last calm breath of air before shuffling to the edge of the car, leaning out from behind the metal as he made eye contact with the orange haired male hiding not too far from him.

The officials from camp Delta had all gathered near the front entrance, conversing with one another as they remained oblivious to the archer crouched behind a nearby vehicle. Shaking his hair from his eyes, Hoseok pulled his quiver from his shoulder taking an arrow into his grasp before loading it into the string of his bow. Fingers clasping around the bottom of the arrow, Hoseok pulled back the string, resting the thin material against his cheek as he sucked in a breath of air. With narrowed eyes and an expression of ice Hoseok abruptly rose to his feet, releasing his loose hold on the string and sending the arrow flying forwards.

Before camp Delta had a second to react, the arrow was sent whizzing through the air, piercing through the tough chest of an official and sending him straight to the muddy floor, blood pooling at his sides. Bringing his hands over his head, Hoseok was quick to duck the moment he saw a man pull a gun from his side, aiming it towards the police cars. "Crap!" Hoseok called, letting his body fall behind the vehicle, back pressed to the rusted metal as a shower of bullets began to spray in his direction.

The gunshots cracked into the air as loud as thunder but with the raw power of a storm. They rent the still country air as they flew into the sides of the rusted cars, shattering windows and breaking off revision mirrors. The noise reverberated in the ears and rang out far over the hills. More worryingly, the rapidity of the shots suggested something automatic.

From the car in-front, Yoongi and Jimin were more than ready. Jimin held his two daggers firmly by his side whilst Yoongi loaded his two hand guns in preparation to fire. Before they knew it silence had returned, more thickly than it was before the shots, as if everything around them was collectively holding their breaths. Now Taehyung was beginning to sweat, the pressure almost unbearable as he took the silence as his cue to move.

For safe keeping, Taehyung wrapped his hand around Daisy's, taking a tight hold of the female before counting down from three, "3..." he made sure everyone was ready, "2..." he tightened his hold on Daisy, narrowing his eyes on the entrance of the facility as the camp Delta officials began to clear, "1."

He ran.

With Daisy and Jin following behind him Taehyung ran, feet kissing the land as he ran as fast as he possibly could to the entrance. Breathing steady and heart strong, Taehyung was relieved to realise that the officials were no longer focused on the lab, but more so on locating his squad. So without any troubles, he slipped the key card into the slot beside the door. "Please open, please open, please open!" he muttered, tapping his foot impatiently against the muddy grass as he waited for the entrance to open. He was able to let out a heavy sigh of relief the moment the doors clicked open, vines snapping as the doors slid away. Thankfully, the facility was powered by solar panels meaning that everything would still be moderately functional.

The moment the three scientists slipped inside, Jungkook took his cue to stand from behind the rusted police car, aiming with almost absolute precision through his messy brunette bangs as he pointed his loaded weapon towards a camp Delta official. The man froze in place as Jungkook pulled down on the trigger, remorse flying from his senses as the bullet fired from the gun. It hit the target with extreme precision tearing effortlessly through the soft human tissue, allowing the arteries to split. This coated the floor in a slick, thick liquid. Blood.

Witnessing one of his men fall, the squad leader of camp Delta turned towards his men, "FIRE!" he bellowed, voice harsh as he pointed towards the heap of police cars. Jungkook immediately ducked back behind the safety of the car, gulping as a window shattered above his head, littering him in a shower of sparkling shards of glass. Jimin on the other hand flew out from behind the protection of the vehicles, "COVER ME!" he called over the bellowing sounds of gunfire, pulling his blades from his sides. Yoongi and Hoseok were quick to cover for the male, sending a couple of officials to the floor as Jimin sprint through the grass. The wind entangled itself through his blonde locks as he rose from the ground, bringing his sharpened blade up alongside him and straight through a male's torso. He spun gracefully on his feet, almost dancing through the air as he took the male out hitting him with the blunt end of his knife.

Hoseok clicked his tongue in disappointment, "Dammit, three more arrows." he huffed, realising that he wouldn't be very smart to use up all of his wooden arrows on this one fight, especially when they could be needed later. Realising the male's struggle, Jungkook called out to the orange haired male, "HOSEOK!" he exclaimed through the sounds of gunfire, grabbing the male's attention "CATCH!" In one swift movement, Jungkook tossed his gun sending it through the air before Hoseok caught it with an outstretched arm. Being in the direct line of fire, it was more logical if he allowed Hoseok to get more shots in. After all, the orange haired male was in a well suited position, the only problem was he didn't know if Hoseok could actually shoot or not.

Blowing his orange hair from his eyes with a huff, Hoseok brought his fingers to the metal object in his grasp, flicking off the safety before peering out from behind the police car. With a steady hand, Hoseok aimed the gun locking his narrowed eyes on target before pulling down on the trigger. The bullet shot through the cold air before it pierced into a man's torso. It wasn't enough to kill a man, but just enough to injure him. Hoseok wasn't a shooter, but he could still do damage.

Tessa took this as her cue to bolt, diving out from behind a police car and heading straight towards the injured male. In one swift motion she sent her knee straight into the male's torso making him cry out in pain at the pressure she had just placed on the wound. Raising her clenched fist she sent her hand into his face, knocking him out upon impact.

There was only three to go.

Taking his chance, Yoongi rose to his feet sharp feline eyes locked onto his target as he bit down on his perfect doll like lips. Pulling down on the trigger, the bullet flew out of the chamber and into the air with great elegance, the bullet aimed for the target beyond the shooter. As it pushed through the air with great speed it gained less distance than it had before until the moment where it struck the target. The split second when the target fell the bullet scraped through the internal structure and organs, sending the male to the ground.

"Now Namjoon!" Jungkook called, watching as Namjoon stood in place, a smirk against his lips. With a messy object clasped tightly in his grasp, Namjoon brought the metal to his mouth, ripping a piece of metal away with his teeth before throwing the object into the air.

It flew in direct line of the two remaining Delta officials before hitting the ground and exploding into a fiery rage. Being closest to the explosion, Jimin and Tessa both shielded themselves from the heat, turning away as the sound rung painfully through their ears. Any glass that remained shattered the second the explosive hit the floor and although it felt like minutes, it only lasted a second before the flames settled into nothing but a smoulder.

"Oh thank god." Namjoon breathed out, letting himself fall against the soft grass at his feet, "I had no idea if that would actually work."

Slowly peeling his hands away from his head, Jungkook shakily rose to his feet dusting of the small shards of glass that pricked at his skin. His eyes went wide, lips parted in complete surprise as he took in the sight before him. Rainwater was now mixed in with the crimson colour of blood running over the grass and soaking up against any small flowers that bloomed from the ground. Hoseok too found his eyes glued to the gruesome sight, arm falling limply to his side as he came to terms with what he'd just done.

"That was easier then I thought." Yoongi spoke up, slipping his gun back into his belt and covering it with his hoodie.

Jimin frowned, "I know right, thats it... we beat Delta." It didn't sit right with Jimin, the words leaving a bitter taste in his mouth.

"I mean... we do have the top squad," Tessa commented, "If you think about it, we literally have the top scientist, squad leader, tactician and navigator on the same team... maybe we're just super good?"

Namjoon chuckled, "I mean... you're not wrong."

Jungkook rolled his eyes, "Lets not dilly dally around, come on." he spoke, gesturing towards the fallen officials.

Hoseok, Yoongi and Jungkook were quick to make there way through the fallen men, blood washing up against their combat boots as they looted the men for any weapons they had on hand. Jungkook felt a wave of nausea washing over him at the sight, he had only killed one man but it felt like he'd taken so much more. Finding the sight to unbearable, Jungkook moved himself away from the bodies, stumbling back around to the entrance of the lab to take a breather.

He ran a hand stressfully through his hair letting his eyes fall towards the sky,

but something else caught his attention.

From the corner of his vision, staggering mindlessly across the entrance of the science facility was something he never thought he'd see here. Body going almost completely numb Jungkook's eyes locked onto a single clicker standing directly at the entrance of the lab. Jungkook wanted to be sick right then and there as his heart pounded heavily against his ribcage.

"Oh god no."
