Chapter 23
"It's just over this bridge!" Natsu yelled. Cana stepped on the gas going full speed over the bridge.
"Someone call her and tell her we're coming." Cana said.
"I got it!" Erza said, taking out her phone, "I hope she's ready to ditch school today."
"What is the first step to solving this problem?" The teacher asked. Lucy was still in a daze, looking out the window, "Ms. Heartfilia!"
She snapped back into reality, "Yes, I'm sorry. What was the question?"
"I will not tell you again to pay attention, do you understand me?"
"Yes mam."
"It's already hard enough teaching a student like you."
Lucy bowed her head down, "a student like me huh..."
"Now back to-" a phone rang, inturrupting the teacher.
Luna felt her pockets and grabbed her phone. She looked at the caller ID, "I'm sorry I really have to take this."
The teacher sighed, "you have five minutes."
"Thank you." She walked in her room and answered the call, "Erza, why are you calling me? I'm still in class."
"Get ready we're coming to pick you up."
"What? Why?"
"Syndicates are crawling around this place looking for Luna, and she's here."
"Who?"
"Veena."
The name struck fear into her soul, "I-I'll be ready in a minute."
"We'll be outside in three minutes. Hurry!" She hung up.
Lucy grabbed a random bag and stuffed all her necessities inside. She walked out of the room and headed to her kitchen stuffing water bottles and snacks inside her bag.
"What do you think you're doing Ms. Heartfilia?" The teacher said, staring at her confused, "you're not allowed to leave campus until lunch time. You know the rules."
"Screw the rules." She said, still packing her bag.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me. I'm tired of being trapped out here with you and your Bullshit for three hours!" She walked toward the table and grabbed her diary.
"If you leave this house I will suspend you."
"Suspend me. It's better than being stuck out here with a person like you." The teacher stared at her, dumbfounded, as she walked out of the house and slammed the door shut. She was searching for any sign of them, "where are you guys?"
She heard a running car in the distance. It was a truck. She strained her eyes to see who was inside.
She smiled, "It's them."
"Woo-hoo!" Cana yelled, as she was pressing her foot on the gas going faster.
"Can you slow down?" Natsu said, holding on to the handle on the car door.
"Never!" She slammed her foot on the gas pedal.
He stuck his head out the window, "I think I'm going to be sick." He said, his face turning a puke green.
She slowed down and came to a stop next to Lucy, "get in." Levy said, as she opened the door for her.
"Thanks." She climbed inside and gasped at the scene before her, "What happened to Gray?"
"She shot him." Juvia said, pain laced in her voice.
"Is he going to be ok?"
"As long as he gets some rest he'll be fine. Levy said.
Lucy nodded and turned back to Gray, "you better come back to us Gray." She whispered.
"We have company!" Jellal yelled from the trunk, "there's five armored trucks behind us!"
"Sheesh! They really don't want us to escape." Natsu said.
"You think!?" Everyone yelled.
"All the exists are probably blocked right now." Cana said.
"Maybe not all of them..." Lucy said, "there's another way through the forest. It's for emergencies."
"Lead the way."
Gray began groaning in his sleep. Levy checked his temperature, "He's getting a fever."
"I thought you said he was going to be ok."
"He should be, but I don't know what's going on."
Natsu glanced back to see his friend, in pain. His blood began to boil. Even though they aren't exactly on good terms it doesn't mean they don't care about each other. They grew up together, faced their problems together, and just because of one falling out they grew apart, but that doesn't mean they don't care for each other.
They're brothers.
The sound of bullets hitting the car made Cana swerve, almost hitting the tree, "They're shooting at us now!?" Jellal yelled.
"Bacchus is going to kill me." Cana said, sliding down in her seat.
A bullet hit the trunk window, causing thousands of shards of glass to fly around the car.
"We're going to die, I accept my fate." Natsu said, smiling while vigorously shaking.
"Stop shaking before you wake her up." Cana said.
"The trail is up ahead." Lucy said, "we may lose them there."
Cana pressed on the gas, attempting to make the truck go faster.
"Death doesn't seem that bad anymore." Natsu said.
Lucy sighed. She grabbed Natsu's collar and slapped him across the face, leaving her hand print, "get a hold of yourself! We're not going to die!"
Natsu shook his head, coming back to his senses, "thanks, I needed that."
Lucy smiled, "no problem." A bullet struck the front glass, causing shards to fly everywhere. Natsu covered Luna making all the shards fall on him, cutting his exposed skin.
"Gajeel, do something about that!" Cana yelled.
Gajeel sighed, "I'm doing all the work around here, and no one at least says Thank you." He whispered.
He cracked his knuckles, "let the games begin."
