Mirio Togata, teacher's pet?

// srry 4 all da mistakes if there is some, wrote this on a spurr at like 1 in the morning before I sleep so I don't lose da idea lawl, night broskis stay swag swag swag //

"Aizawa-sensei! Good afternoon!" Aizawa jumps back a bit, his brow furrowed, he was just about to open the door when Mirio opened it from the other side, either Mirio already knew he was here or he said it out of instinct,

As Mirio was once a first year student, Aizawa has had his fair bunch of dealing with him. He was a cheery, bright kid. Great quirk, great personality, great leader, if he planned to become an underground hero Aizawa would be first in line to offer him an internship but he's probably going down the All Might route and Aizawa has no qualms about that. A hero is a hero, he just handles a different part of heroism that doesn't require a camera shoved in his face the entire time he's out,

When Mirio climbed a grade up, he started to see the teen less, if way back then in first years he sometimes joined their homeroom and had two subjects to teach, one twice a week and another one everyday, in second year he only had 1 subject to teach and it was only thrice per week. Not that he minded.

Well he didn't mind.

"Aizawa-sensei, is there anything I can help you with today?" He remembers it's just like it was yesterday, Mirio striding into the lounge with such confidence it would bring shame to All Might himself, he placed a cup of coffee by Aizawa's desk and asked him that question with a smile and a straight face, not one to go down.

Aizawa, curse his soft heart, noticing how everyone was looking at him, didn't want to dismiss the boy in such a manner. He wasn't planning on getting a student assistant, but- he probably shouldn't think that far, he handed Mirio some papers to distribute to his classes and the blond happily obliged, Aizawa sighed in relief as he was gone.

He didn't think much of the encounter as the bell soon rang, not even remembering it until Mirio comes back down again, same time, same place, same look on his face and he has a cup of coffee, probably as a bribe, Aizawa sighed.

"I don't have much to do, it's my break." Aizawa lied.

"That's great! It's my break too! Do you mind if I sat with you?" He asked, like a happy, cheerful kid, Aizawa should say no, he can't be seen getting too friendly with his students.

He silently cursed himself when he couldn't say anything and gave Mirio nothing but a nod, the blond beams at him and sits down nearby Aizawa, neatly eating his lunch, making sure not to make a mess. Every time Aizawa would glance to him while doing his work, the blond would immediately catch on and give him a big bright smile as if getting to eat right next to Aizawa was such a blessing.

"M-Mirio...." a soft meek voice called out, shyly opening the door to the lounge and peeking it, it was Tamaki, "u-um.... t-the class is looking for you.... something to discuss." Knowing that all eyes was on him, Tamaki shrunk in on himself.

"Oh- alright!" Mirio quickly packed his bento up, he thanked Aizawa, bowing his head before he stood up and left.

And that was that.

Or so he thought.

Once or twice a week, Mirio would come over, either Aizawa gives him a task or he eats quietly besides him, they have some conversation sometimes but it was all hushed and quiet as some other teachers are still working even on lunch ( even Aizawa himself although he can never bring himself to deny the cheerful blond ), before he noticed, he grew fond of the small talks and conversations they had.

"We should try going out sometime!" Mirio said with a laugh one day, Aizawa laughed a bit, funniest joke he's heard from the kid ever since he started this whole thing, Mirio just smiles.

"I'm not kidding."

Aizawa just brushes it off, there's a line to be drawn somewhere, they're still student and teacher after all, he can't go on outings with a student.

"Maybe after you graduate." He said, off handedly, surely Mirio would've moved on to greater things by then.

"Really?!" Mirio asked, seemingly surprised, Aizawa shrugged and nodded.

"Yeah sure, but not when I'm still your teacher." He said, taking a sip of his coffee.

If Mirio had smiled at him the brightest he's ever seen before, he doesn't comment on it and just pretends to ignore.

Yeah, there's no way that would've made him that happy, probably just caught up in the moment.

"You know, you really like that kid." Mic started one day, staring at Shouta, "you tolerate him more than me!"

"He's a student. I can't be rude to him. You however, are a different situation altogether." Mic laughed at that,

"Come on man, would it take so much for you to agree that you like the kid? I heard that you let him off eating snacks at the back of class the other day, seriously, no detention?!"

"He skips breakfast frequently."

"Shota, I don't think you get what I'm seeing here. Didn't you give his entire class a detention except for him and him alone?"

"He wasn't there during the incident in lunch because he had lunch with me."

"Shota, you let him have lunch with you."

.....

Mic's right. He was showing favoritism, that was unacceptable, wasn't it? This was a professional environment, he can't be doing stunts like that, he sighed, his nerves steeled.

"Aizawa-sensei, can I have-"

"No." Aizawa quickly replies, his heart immediately aches when Mirio gives him a sad face that can only remind him of a crying kitten, curse his aching heart- "I meant- no. You can't have my coffee." Aizawa lies, as smooth as sandpaper.

Mirio buys into it immediately, Aizawa sighs in relief when he shows him his usual bright smile.

"Ah I actually have something to tell you! I'm starting my internship at Nighteye's soon! I probably won't be able to hang around a lot more!" Mirio says, rubbing the back of his head nervously, Aizawa stares at him for a moment.

......

"Good for you to score an internship this early." He said, "I'm sure you'll do great." He said, sipping his coffee.

"I hope so!"

.......

There was a strange and tense air between them, Mirio babbles and Aizawa gives him straight, curt replies just as usual yet, for some reason, it was different today and he wasn't exactly sure why.

The first week Mirio didn't come to greet him, he didn't pay it any attention, too busy with his work.

A week turned into a month, a month into a year and Mirio was a third year soon enough.

Aizawa never once reached out to him- since it would be odd, wouldn't it? Maybe not, he knows Mic likes to catch up with his students, so does Midnight- so does anyone else. So why not Aizawa? Still, whatever kind of reasoning Aizawa thought up with, it was quickly disposed off in the garbage.

Ever since that day of Mirio announcing his internship, they've never stopped to talk in between breaks, only speaking inside the classroom, never anywhere else.

Until today.

Since their teacher isn't around Aizawa was chosen to substitute for them, and he has no reason to refuse. He's only ever remembered the ordeal about Mirio because of him surprising him first thing in the afternoon like this, the blond beams at him.

"I knew you were coming! I've been opening the door repeatedly waiting to surprise you!" He said with a cheery laugh, that idea.... it sounded dumb.

"If you have time to waste around like that you have more than enough time to study. You've been getting straight B's since halfway into your second year." He pointed out, Mirio laughed a bit.

"You could say that. I didn't know you kept track of me!"

"You were my student, why wouldn't I?" He huffed, getting inside the room. Since it was after lunch, the classroom was just getting filled, Mirio got himself seating at the very front, Aizawa raises a brow. The seat plan of 3-B.... Hm. Mirio's supposed to be at the back due to his height so why....

His classmates only gave knowing glances as the person who's supposed to be on Mirio's seat sat at Mirio's seat at the back. He should probably point it out,

He doesn't, and the class goes on normally.

It ends as quickly as it starts, time passes by too fast for Aizawa nowadays, he sighed, about to leave the room.

"Aizawa-sensei! Wait!" Mirio said, stilling him, Aizawa paused, then looked back, raising a brow, Mirio laughed, Aizawa wasn't sure what was funny, the blond rubbed the back of his neck nervously, "you're on break after this right? Think I can come?" He asked rather cheekily.

Aizawa stared at him for a moment.

Against all better judgement, he nods.

Favoritism be damned, He doesn't have a single subject in Mirio's class, it's fine.
