THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALEXANDRIA CHASE
Kristina's POV
There are a lot of things I don't like, and being randomly touched by strangers is pretty high on the list. So I was not happy when the weird man with the ugly mustache placed his hand on my shoulder and said "Alexandria?"
And by 'not happy' I mean I used alchemy to throw him clear to the other side of the street, where he landed on his back with a loud "Oof!"
"What the heck was that for?!" he yelled.
"Why did you touch me, you pedophile?!" I yelled back, not caring about that we were in the middle of a moderately busy street.
The man struggled to his feet. "I am not a pedophile! I just thought you were someone else!"
"Oh, is that so?" I crossed my arms and continued glaring at him. "And who might that be?"
"Alexandria Chase." he said. "She has red hair too."
"Are you saying that all redheads look the same?!"
"N-no! You just looked like her from behind!"
"Well, I'm obviously not her. Good-bye." I said, turning away.
"Wait!"
I turned around. "What?"
The man was looking at me with pleading eyes. "Will you help me find her?"
"Why would I do that?"
"She's been missing for over a month! We've had people looking everywhere, but there's no sign. Maybe your alchemy could find her."
"Haven't her parents called the police or something?"
He bit his lip. "She doesn't have any parents. I called the police, but they don't seem to think this is important enough for them to help."
I hesitated. I don't normally get involved in other people's business, especially not the business of people who have violated my personal space. But I was also somewhat intrigued with this missing girl who apparently also looked like me. And it's not like I had anything better to do...
"Fine." I said, crossing my arms. "Where do we start?"
-TIME SKIP BROUGHT TO YOU BY ALCHEMY-
Long story short: We looked everywhere.
Every. Freakin'. Where.
No sign of the Chase girl.
I sighed and rubbed the back of my neck. "It's like she doesn't want to be found..."
The man, who had later introduced himself as Samuel, shook his head. "She would never just up and leave like this... I don't think so anyway."
We were in a shabbier part of town, cobbled streets and broken-down buildings that loomed overhead. There were very few people around.
Something shiny caught my eye.
The door of one of the buildings was painted a bright green, and emblazoned in gold with the address 221B.
"Let's ask in there." I said, on a whim, and started walking towards the door.
"Why there?" Samuel asked.
"Just a hunch."
I knocked at the door, noticing the faint noise of music from inside. A minute passed.
The door opened. Standing in the entryway was a teenaged girl, hardly older than me, with long blonde hair and glasses perched on her noise. She was wearing a shirt that said "My Laser Kittens Will Destroy You".
"Hi." I said, not waiting for her to speak. "We're looking for a girl named Alexandria Chase. She's about 15 years old, has long red hair? Have you seen her?"
The girl's face seemed to pale slightly, though it was hard to tell since she was very pale already. "Who are you?" she demanded.
"Kristina Ross. The Sun Alchemist."
The girl's face definitely got paler this time. "No, no, no, I haven't seen her. Go away." she said, and attempted to close the door.
I stuck my foot in the door, preventing her from closing it. "You're acting awfully suspicious."
"I-haven't-seen-her." the girl said, slamming the door against my foot with every word.
"I think I'll just have a look around, hmm?" I said, unceremoniously shoving her back and stepping into the house. I could hear Samuel calling me back but I ignored him.
Inside, the house was one of the strangest things I've ever seen. Books covered a whole wall of what seemed to be the living room, while another corner was dominated by stacks of board games. Opposite those was a sort of black box that seemed to have light coming out of it. Words covered the lighted surface. Before I could investigate the thingamajig, a voice from the next room caused me to look up.
"Icarus, who was that?"
"That's Alexandria's voice!" exclaimed Samuel, who had come in behind me. He rushed past me and into the next room. I followed close behind.
The next room was obviously a bedroom. Yet more books were strewn about, and the walls were covered with posters of people in strange costumes, emblazoned with titles such as "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "Harry Potter 7". A large calendar picturing a young blond-haired boy and a suit of armor hung over the bed. They looked vaguely familiar, but I didn't think about that then, because my eyes were immediately drawn to the girl who was propped up in the bed.
She had long red hair, like mine.
"Alexandria!" Samuel said. "What are you doing here? Why did you disappear?"
"Oh, you can ask Icarus that." Alexandria said in a sarcastically cheerful tone, gesturing to the blond girl, who was standing behind me. "You can ask her why she hasn't been writing anything."
"What does writing have to do with any of this?" I asked.
Alexandria's eyes widened slightly. "You mean you don't know yet?"
"Know what?" I asked warily.
"Wait, let me guess... Kristina Ross, right?"
"Yes. How-"
"Well, you see Kristina, you and me are both characters in certain fanfi-"
"That's enough!" Icarus said, emerging from behind me into the bedroom. "Alex, I said you were to tell no one!"
"What is going on!" I yelled to the room at large. "And how did you know me?" I directed the last part to Alexandria.
"She talks about you a lot." Alexandria said. "Along with Paisley, Blair, Sonia, Thorn, Aura, Adelynn..." She counted off the names on his fingers.
"Alex, if you say any more, things will be worse than you can imagine." Icarus said in a deadly-soft voice. "You will upset the space-time continuum-"
"Oh, shut up about your wibbley-wobbly timey-wimey stuff." Alexandria scoffed.
Icarus glared at her with eyes that, I have to admit, would have make me think twice about barging up in here if I had seen them earlier.
"Fine, I won't say anything." Alexandria said. "If you promise to update. Within the next three days. I'm getting bored just sitting here."
"Update...?" Samuel asked weakly, sounding just as confused as I felt.
"Fine!" Icarus said. "I'll update!"
"Do you hear that?" Alexandria called out, not seeming to be talking to any of us, but to someone only she could see. "Do you hear that, faithful readers! Icarus promised to update!"
"Alex..." Icarus muttered, putting a hand to her forehead.
"You'd better hold her to it!" Alex continued to yell. "She'd be nowhere without you, you wonderful readers!"
"Right, okay, fine, great." Icarus said, grabbing me and Samuel by the arms with surprising strength and dragging us to the front door. "You two get out of here now."
"But, Alex-" Samuel protested.
"She'll be out soon enough, just as soon as I can get some writing done." Icarus said. We were at the door now, and she shoved us out of it. "Okay?"
"I'm just still trying to figure out what exactly just happened." I said.
"Trust me, so am I." said Icarus, and then she slammed the door in our faces.
And so the strange mystery of the disappearance of Alexandria Chase was solved, with the help of (although I didn't quite understand all of it) yours truly, Kristina Ross, the Sun Alchemist.
AAxTSA- fin.
