Reese's POV

When you're actually having a fun summer it passes by quickly. But when you're bored twenty four seven and have nothing to do?

It drags out painfully.

That's why I'm happy to hear that a friend of a friend of a friend of Marcus's is throwing a huge party down by the beach.

"Finally something fun," I pull on a pink dolphin tank top and black khakis. Then I use a bandana to tie my hair back.

Marcus picks me up and we head to the mall to chill for a bit before going down to the party.

"Do you think there'll be food at the party?" Marcus asks as we walk.

"Not really. Probably just booze."

"That's what I thought. I'm getting something to eat before we go."

So we stop at the food court so Marcus can feed his stomach. I myself am not hungry because before I left I ate some of my moms delicious burritos. She's a pro in the kitchen.

As I'm waiting for Marcus to order and eat his food I spot Krystal and one of her friends....forgot what her name was but the one with the pink hair. They're waiting in line for food. The one with pink hair turns and makes eye contact with me. I stare back and she stares and we just stare at each other until she turns back to Krystal and begins to speak excitedly.

An idea popped up in my brain.

I turned to Marcus. "I'll meet you at the party ok?"

"You sure?" He asks with a mouthful of burger.

"Yeah. I just have something to take care of real quick. But I'll find my way there."

He shrugs and continues to tear into his food. I make my way over to Krystal and her friend. She's already seen me and shoots me a scowl before as I approach.

"Hey Krystal. Hey..." I trailed off.

"Rosie," she supplied.

"Right, Rosie." I returned my gaze to her. "Make sure nobody cuts you in line this time. I would hate to see you lay the smack down on another poor soul."

"Shut up loser," she hissed turning her back to me. I stayed where I was. She glanced back to glare at me.

"Say, how would you girls like to take a trip to the beach?" I ask. "Me and my buddies are meeting there and you're dressed for the occasion."

"A trip to the beach sounds like fun!" Rosie agreed. Krystal scowled at her.

"No thanks, we have plans," she said snootily.

"No we don't," Rosie counters and I shoot her a smug look. Krystal rolls her eyes.

"Fine." She says and Rosie cheers.

They get their food and we leave the mall. I whistle when I see her car.

"Nice," I say in admiration. "So, where are the keys?"

"Oh hell no, you are not driving my princess."

"You don't even know the way," I countered.

"The answer is no."

"Give him the keys Krystal pleaseeee!" Rosie begs.

"Fine!"  She all but screams and chucks the keys at my face. I catch them.

"If you even scratch my princess you're dead."

"Got it. Now let's boogie," I get in the drivers side her and Rosie sit in the back.

About twenty minutes into the drive and we're on a long stretch of road. Rosie unbuckles her seatbelt and sits on the top of her seat.

"What the hell!? Do you want to be thrown out of the car?" Krystal shouts. "Get back down!"

"Just watch!" She yells over the wind and grabs her shawl. She flips it behind her and let's it blow in the breeze while yelling wildly.

"Woohoo! Come on Krystal try it!"

"Yeah Krystal unless your too chicken," I smirk and that does it. She unbuckles her seatbelt to join Rosie, grabbing her own shawl and letting it fly behind her. The wind whips through their hair as they both cheer.

I'm actually surprised. She looks like she's having...fun.

And I have to say when Krystal's not frowning or glaring at someone she looks ten times more beautiful.

I pull up to the beach parking lot. The party is going strong.

"Alright hop out ladies," I slide out of the car and slam the door. My eyes scan over the party. Now this is my kind of scene.

"This looks like fun!" Rosie claps and jumps excitedly. In the short time I've spent with her I've learned that she's a very excitable person. It's like she's made of sugar, spice, and everything nice.

"Of course you hang out with people like this," Krystal rolls her eyes.

"Could you be any more judgmental? Sorry we're not all born with a silver spoon in our mouth? Or was it a gold spoon? Maybe both?"

Krystal narrows her eyes at me.

"Come on Rosie," I hold out my arm and she takes it before we start down toward the party. I turn back to see if Krystal is going to stand there or follow. She follows with her signature scowl on her face. Man I really liked it better when she was smiling.

"You made it," Marcus spots me and comes over. "And you brought friends," he grins at Rosie and Krystal. "Who are you two lovely girls?"

"I'm Rosie," Rosie holds out her hand to shake. Marcus takes it laughing.

"And you?" He turns to Krystal.

"Krystal," she replies in a huff. Then she turns to me. "So is this like your friend or something? Didn't know you actually had any."

"Ouch someone get some ice for that burn!" Marcus chuckles.

"Shut up," I tell him even though I'm smiling.

"Well you girls feel free to anything we have. Drinks are in the coolers over there," Marcus points to an ice chest by some tiki torches.

When they're gone Marcus turns to me. "They're both hot. So, which one do you have your eye on?"

He knows me too well.

"The redhead."

He whistles. "Good luck man. Something tells me you're gonna have to work extra hard to get that chest to open."

I smirk. "Maybe. But everything locked has a key. And I do love a challenge."

Krystal's POV

Everyone here smells cheap and disgusting. I can't believe I agreed to come to this party. We could still be at the mall if Rosie hadn't opened her big mouth.

I feel annoyed with myself because I caved in easily and let Reese get to me. There's just something about him that gets under my skin. He doesn't respect me at all or my status.

Everyone I meet always kisses up to me. It's like they have no backbone. But he doesn't. I guess if I'm being one hundred percent honest, it's a little refreshing.

Refreshing but still irritating all the same.

"Why are you just standing here?" Speak of the devil. Reese comes over. "It's a party, not a funeral."

I don't answer him and purse my lips.

"Wow you really don't know how to have fun," he takes a long drink of his beer. Gross. Beer is so un-classy. I only drink champagne or wine.

"Why does everyone want to hang out with you again?"

"I can have fun," I snap losing my patience and snatching his beer can. Without thinking I drink the rest and crush it before tossing it onto the sand.

Ugh beer tastes awful. This is exactly why I don't drink it.

He smiles. "Didn't know you had it in you."

"There's a lot of things you don't know about me."

"Oh really?" He raises a brow. "Like what?"

"Well..." I blurt out the first thing I can think of. "I can dance."

"You can dance?" He repeats. "Ok then prove it," he gestures toward the crowd where everyone is dancing to loud pounding music. "Dance."

I squint up at him and Rosie comes over.

"Let's dance," I grab her hand and drag her away before she can say anything.

"Oh I love this song!" Rosie squeals as they start playing a Cool for the Summer.

I actually like this song as well.

Rosie and I dance together casually at first but when the chorus comes on someone sprays water all over the crowd soaking us.

"Yeah!" Rosie flips her wet hair. "Come on Krystal!"

She dances closer and grabs my hand twirling me around so I'm flush against her. I grind on her laughing. I throw my hands up and move to the beat.

Okay so maybe this isn't so bad after all.

When I glance back at Reese he's staring at me and I can't exactly read the look on his face but he sticks his tongue out to wet his lip and my heart rate spikes.

We dance to the next song and the next until my feet are killing me. I push my way out of the mob with Rosie close behind me. I've mostly dried off but now my originally straightened hair hangs in its natural waves down my back.

The sun is starting to set and I wonder how long we've been here. Reese is talking to that guy we met earlier. I never did get his name.

"Is there anything here to drink besides beer?" I ask, my nose wrinkled.

Reese tosses me a water bottle. "You were right. You can dance." And he scans the length of my body. I swear it feels like he's undressing me with his eyes. I involuntarily shiver.

"Wait I don't think you told us your name," Rosie says to Reese's dark haired friend.

"Marcus," he says lighting up a cigarette.

"So how'd you two meet?" I ask sitting on the sand. I'm genuinely curious since I seriously didn't think Reese had any actual friends, well besides that one grudge looking chick. Forgot her name, I think it started with a k.

Reese and Marcus share a look.

"I guess we just ran into each other," Reese replies nonchalantly.

Well that answer didn't seem suspicious at all.

Whatever. I wasn't going to pry. I was curious but not that curious.

"It's getting late. We should be going," I stand.

"Aw come on the party is just starting!" Marcus spreads out his arms. "It only gets better from here."

"Thanks but some of us need our beauty sleep."

"Of course," Reese nods like he completely understands.

"You have a way to get home right?" I'm surprised when I ask Reese this. It's not like I care, I just don't want to be responsible if he gets in trouble or something.

He grins. "Are you concerned for me Krystal Parker?"

I glare at him.

"Don't worry I'll get home."

Humph. With than answer I spin around and start back up to my car.

"Bye!" I hear Rosie say to the boys. She scurries after me.

"Wasn't that fun?" She questions breathlessly.

I shrug. "I guess."

She skips ahead of me and a small smile plays on my lips.

It was fun.
