Krystal's POV

"You're leaving?!" I screamed.

"I'm sorry I know I should've told you earlier-"

"Ya think!" I yell again. "How could you just tell me this now?"

Josh reaches for me but I slap his hand away. "Don't touch me," I hiss.

"Krystal please you have to realize how important this is to me. This is my dream."

I crossed my arms and glared at him. I didn't care if this was his dream, the fact is he could've told me that he would be spending the summer at a football camp instead of springing it on me the day before he's leaving.

I try to calm down by breathing in through my mouth and out through my nose.

"What time are you leaving?" I ask with my eyes closed.

"At four."

"Four!" I screech.

He reaches for me again and this time I don't push him away. I let him place his hands on my cheeks and bring me closer.

"I'm so sorry I didn't tell you baby. And I know this is all so sudden. But please forgive me."

"I don't want you to go," I mumble.

"I know baby," he kisses my forehead. "But the summer will pass by faster than you know it and I'll be back."

"Promise?" I look up at him.

"I promise," he pulls my face closer and kisses me.

Ugh what was I supposed to do all summer now? Alexis was leaving for Hawaii and Rosie to Bora Bora. My stupid parents decided to stay in town for the summer. It was so dumb. We traveled every year and now they wanted to stay home? I would have no one to hang out with after Rosie left next week.

After Josh leaves to finish packing up I went back to to my room. My parents were in their room and the door was locked so I didn't have to guess very hard what they were doing in there. So gross. Who wants to think of their parents having sex?

I didn't have the best relationship with my mom and dad. My mom reminded me of Rosie, in that she was bubbly, childlike, and sometimes ditzy. My dad was cold and emotionless and always berated everything I did claiming I was messing up his image. Honestly they were such completely different people and I had no idea how they fell in love, if you could even call it that.

I flopped down on my bed and opened my iPhone 7 to text Alexis.

Me: josh leaving for football camp tmr 😪

Alexis: r u serious?

Me: yea he just told me.

Alexis: how could he wait so long to say something?

Me: thats what I'm wondering🙄

Alexis: so what are u going to do all summer?

Me: hell if I know. I'm sure I'll find something...

Alexis: I'd invite you to Hawaii with us but we leave on Friday so it's kinda too late

Me: thanks for the thought. Ttyl

Alexis: 😘

I sighed and stared at my ceiling. I guess my summer wasn't going to be as perfect as I thought.

Reese's POV

There was something about doing something illegal that gave me a rush.

It was nighttime. Only a few stars dotted the night sky. I was leaning against a dirty brick wall in an alleyway.

Waiting.

My black hood was pulled low over my face and my hands shoved in my pocket. I squeezed the plastic bag.

I heard the sound of boots on concrete and subtly looked up still keeping my face low.

The figure leaned against the wall next to me.

"You him?" He asked in a low, gravelly, voice.

"Yeah," I replied. "Do you have the cash?"

"Yeah."

"Put it in the bag in front of me."

I watched as he slid a wad of cash into the brown paper bag by my feet. I stooped down to pick it up and counted the bills just to make sure it was the correct amount.

"Here," I slid him the plastic bag full of white powder.

At first Marcus and I really did start selling weed but it wasn't enough. Anyone could get weed, a dealer was a dime a dozen.

But cocaine? That was the good stuff. And luckily for us thanks to Marcus's dad's contacts we were able to get a nice supply to distribute.

I met Marcus back at his place. He was sitting on the sofa with Alicia watching tv.

"Here," I tossed the bag on his lap.

"I take it that it went well?" He opened the bag to count his money.

"I'm here aren't I?"

"Why do you guys have to this at night? Why can't you deal during the day like you did with the weed?" Alicia asked looking up at me with concern.

"Alicia this isn't weed, it's cocaine. If we get busted we're going to jail."

"Well I still don't like it."

"Thanks for the concern but I'm a big boy, I can take care of myself," I slip off my hood and shoot her a wink.

Alicia is like Marcus in the fact that they're both "trailer park trash." They both come from terrible families and Alicia has lived in this part of town all her life with her bitchy aunt. She's nice enough once you get to know her but comes off as intimidating to anyone else.

When I say this part of town I mean what everyone else would call, 'the bad side of town.' Run down houses and trailer parks, homeless people and crackheads roaming the neighborhoods, prostitutes.

I live in the nice part of town with all the richies but I don't consider myself one of them nor fit in with them at all. My mom is Puerto Rican and my dad is Brazilian. They met on what I deem a very coincidental trip to Spain. After they got married my mom moved to Brazil to live with my dad. There they had my older brother Valentino. When Valentino was five my mom decided she missed Puerto Rico so they moved back. Three years later I was born. When I was four we moved to America and have lived here ever since. My dad took over his dads company and runs it from overseas while my mom is your stereotypical stay at home mother. English is my second language but I've learned it pretty well. My accent isn't completely gone and when I say certain words you can still hear it.

I know what's it like to live in a not so good part of town so I don't judge Marcus or Alicia. When we first moved here we didn't have much money and lived in run down apartments. It wasn't until my dad acquired the company that we could afford better living. Just because I live in a nice place now doesn't mean I'm any better than them. In some ways we have a lot in common.

Like the fact that our lives our complete and utter garbage.

"You staying the night?" Marcus lights up a cigarette.

"Could you not smoke next to me?" Alicia glares at him.

Marcus takes a long drag and blows the smoke in her face grinning. She shoves him off the couch.

"Nah my mom will be pissed," I check the time. "In fact I've broken curfew already."

I can already hear her yelling already.

"Good luck bro," Marcus says reading my mind.

Sure enough as soon as I'm through the front door I'm greeted with a slap.

Damn. Seventeen years and it still hurts like hell.

"¿Dónde demonios has estado?" My mother yells at me.

"I was at a friends," I rub my cheek.

"Do you know what time it is?" She switches back to English but her accent is still thick even after so many years of living here.

"I lost track of time. Lo siento."

"Do this again and you'll be receiving more than a slap," she hisses.

"It won't happen again," I lie. Of course it'll happen again and she'll get angry and yell in Spanish and ground me but eventually she'll get over it.

I trudge upstairs to my bedroom and take off my shirt tossing it to the floor. Then I strip down to my boxers before falling on my bed and crashing.

Hehe so who's ready for Krystal and Reese to meet because I am!
