Chapter Twenty

Taylor sat happily stuffing her face with warm fries. She glanced at Stone who had begun to start trying to drink his frosty, but the thing was still frozen. She glanced at the dull place that once seemed thrilling. This Wendy's, despite the dull colors, was reminding her of a memory of her childhood. A memory of this being her first restaurant she went to with her dad.

"Did you get all you wanted?" Stone asked her, setting his cup down with a solid thump.

"Yeah. These chicken nuggets are the best!" She said happily dipping one into her ranch. Stone chuckled

"Good. I feel like we haven't really eaten since we left. I'm sorry about that."

"No harm done. I'm sure once we get to where we're going, we'll stock up."

"Yeah, I was thinking before we get into Alaska we'll find a clothing store and get you some proper attire and I'll stock up on food."

"Mmkay." Taylor bounced her leg a but "Um I do have to ask. Why don't we just fly there? I mean wouldn't it be faster?"

"Yes. But you don't have a passport." Taylor bit her lip

"Oh. Why do I need one?"

"To travel. They won't let you on the plane because you need a form of identity to get into the country."

"Ugh so many rules." She said, wrinkling her nose.

"Tell me about it." Stone glanced at her watch. "Couple more minutes then we should head out."

"Okay. And actually, I'm pretty full so I will just take my frosty to go."

"Fair enough." He said rising. He threw their trash away, then they headed out to the car.

"Do you have to use the bathroom?"

"No. I'm good."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes I am."

"Okay." Stone started the engine and turned up the music. Then away they went.

"I have a question."

"What's that?"

"If this isn't your car, why did you have your burner phone in here?"

"I put it in there after you fell asleep. And since I'm driving this, I'm calling it my car."

"But it's not your car. It's STOLen."

"Tomato Tamato."

"Fine fine!." She said, raising her hands.

"Maybe you could try to drive this car?"

"Um no. too fast."

"It is a bit smaller though."

"Yeah. I don't know, it is smaller I guess. Maybe once we get out of all this traffic." She said waving her hand around at the darkening sky.

"Sure. I'll find a good spot." He said, flashing her a smile. They were quiet for some time as Stone watched the traffic and Taylor watched the scenery.

"You know what I like to do when stressed or bored?"

"No. What?"

"I like to draw. Do you have any papers?"

"I don't know if there are any in this car. You could see if there are napkins or something in the back."

"Mmkay." She undid her seat belt and climbed into the back. She rummaged around the messy back seat and came across a wad of napkins. It would have to do for now. As she rummaged, she was unaware that Stone had sighted a car, a car three lengths back that had been following them since leaving Wendy's. He didn't know if it was a coincidence but knew he needed to leave them in the dust soon. Taylor grabbed the wad and took her seat again. She clipped her seatbelt back in and the annoying noise stopped.

"So, what do you like to draw?"

"Mmm people. Scenery, animals."

"What do you draw with?"

"There's these special charcoal pencils. But normal pencils and pens can work too. I use a sketch pad or just regular paper to draw on." Taylor said as she looked out the window

"Do you draw from memory or do you have to look at the object or person?" Taylor cautiously glanced at him. She couldn't believe he was this interested.

"Uh both. I can also do it by looking at a photo of the object or person."

"Pretty cool." Stone said, flashing her a smile.

"Yeah." Their conversation came to an end as Taylor focused on drawing on her napkin. She wouldn't be able to do it very well, but she'd try her best. A couple minutes later, she became aware of an uncomfortable feeling of having to go pee. Taylor knew she shouldn't say anything as he had asked her earlier if she needed to go. The reason she had said no earlier was because she hadn't needed to go then. Taylor shifted and grabbed another napkin and becg to draw flowers to distract herself. But after sometime she began to fidget as her bladder began to hurt. She held her breath, bounced her leg and tried not to cry

"What are you doing?" Stone's cold voice made her pause. She let out her breath

"What do you mean?"

"I mean why are you so fidgety?"

"It's nothing."

Taylor, come on. Tell me."

"I don't think-"

"I don't care. Tell me now."

"I have to pee." Stone rolled his eyes

"For real?"

Yes, I'm so sorry."

"I understand. Guess you just have a small bladder." He said as he kept his eyes open for a gas station. Forty-five minutes later he found one. He turned off and pulled into the parking lot

"I will go fast." Taylor said, taking off her seat belt.

"Okay. Go, I'll be here."

"Um okay." Taylor went inside quickly and went into the bathroom. She locked herself in and was about to go when footsteps reached her ears. Her heart began to hammer as they sounded heavy like men's shoes.

"I know you're here malen'kiy." A thick accented voice came.

"Are you sure? It is awfully quiet." Another accented voice said, but this one was medium deep.

"I'm sure Krill. Boris said she come back here."

"Well what do we do?"

"We wait for mouse to come out." The man said with an evil laugh. Talor moved her eyes back and forth and she held in her breath. One began to whistle the song that Katniss sings when they all are on the run, it goes like this: Are you, are you, Coming to the tree? They strung up a man They say who murdered three Strange things did happen here No stranger would it be If we met at midnight In the hanging tree. Taylor sank down onto the toilet seat as a shadow passed by her door. She began to feel dizzy so very quietly she let out her breath. Suddenly a loud bang made her door rattle, she let out a scream

"She is here boss." The high pitch voice said as Taylor covered her mouth

"Yes Krill. I told you. Now she will come out or..." Taylor heard the familiar sound of a gun cocking and her knees began to shake and out came some pee. She looked down at herself and couldn't believe she had allowed herself to do that. With shaky fingers and nowhere to go, she undid the latch and walked out. Taylor looked at the two muscular men. Both in suits of black. Both pointing guns at her. One had black spiky hair and the other had brown buzzed hair like the military. The spiky hair had a milky white eye, his other was blue. Military had grey colored eyes.

"Hello mouse." Military man said.

"What do you want?" Taylor asked sounded much stronger than she thought she was going to be.

"We want you obviously." Spiky said

"Why?"

"That you can't know." Spiky said again. It reminded her of a certain person that liked to say that too.

"Now move." Military man said, waving his gun towards the door. She did so and pulled it open only to be pushed down to the floor as the two men grunted. Looking down she saw blood trickling down in between the cracks of the tile. Both were shot once in the heart. She followed the shiny dress shoes upward and stared at Stone

"Come on, let's go." He lifted her up and rushed from there. Inside the car, he took off before she had her door closed.

How did you know?" She asked breathlessly

"They've been following us since we left the restaurant."

"And you didn't think to tell me?"

"There was no reason to scare you. Plus you can not do anything." She snorted

"I could punch them."

"Like that would help? No."

"Was it just those two?"

"No. Two dead in the trunk."

"What!? Why are they in the trunk?" She asked, balling her hands into fists.

"I couldn't leave them for all to see."

"Why do they want me? It's like everyone want sme. You, them. Who else?"

"Many people, Taylor. But not me. I just want to keep you safe from them."

"Like you have been?" She said scoffing

"I try my best. One we get to- '' They were jolted forward as something rammed into their bumper from behind. Turning around, Talro saw a white Escalade with a big ramming bar on the front.

"Stone!" She gripped the seat as it hit them again. But he had nowhere to go and he hit the car in front of them. The car hit their brakes making Stone hit him more and the car behind them to sail into them. Taylor's scream ripped through the air as crushing noise and glass breaking filled her ears. She closed her eyes just wanting to wake up from this bad dream.

"Taylor! Taylor!" A voice echoed as hands gripped her shoulders. She stopped screaming and opened her eyes. Stone was mere inches from her face. His eyes had a calming effect on her

"What?" She asked hoarsely.

"We have to go." She nodded her head numbly and got out. Taylor looked at the mess of cars all shattered and broken. The car behind them was halfway into the back of the car and both drivers were still inside. Stones hand crept into hers and as they walked past dead, dazed people, sirens could be heard in the distance. He picked up the pace and they headed into a gas station.

"Now what?" She asked, rubbing her hands up and down her arms.

"Now we head to the airport."

"The airport?"

"Yes, we need to get to Alaska now. They are too close to me. To you."

"I'm glad your finally taking my advice." She said with a glare.

"Hey. I'm sorry, okay. I thought that I could do this safely and not too jostly."

"Jostly?"

"Yes, too fast for you. I didn't want to rush anything. I wanted you to get used to being gone. Used to running away."

"Well I would say you failed. Epicly." She retorted back. Stone rubbed the back of his neck.

"I did. I'm sorry. But that is why we must take the next step."

"Wherever you go. I'll follow." She smiled and took his hand.

"Then let's get out of here."
