Chapter 11 Mrs G and Gizmo
Hey guys!
So as I said, I have time off and I thought I wasn't going to able to write another chapter but I managed it, there will be a little note at the end, Hazel does not have a point of view in this chapter, it's actually quite short about 500 words but I feel that the last one was longer so it's okay.
Thank you for everything :)

Hazel and I step out through the dark blue front door and onto the cobblestone path, on our way to the park.
"Be back by four!" Mum yells from
the distant kitchen
"Will do Mum!" I yell back
Haze smiles at me as the door closes.
"She's paranoid" I say
"Yeah I kind of guessed" she replies smirking slightly.
We walk away from the house towards the main pavement, it's pretty much deserted today, everyone's at the beach Dad said when he called from work this morning, Graham's tagged along too for and I quote 'the experience'.
"Good morning Daniel!"
I turn to see Mrs Green; our neighbour from next door who is a petit old lady with the stereotypical grandma look about her a mauve cardigan is drawn around her white blouse (even though it's mild out) and her lilac skirt looks like it's seen a few Christmases. A chain of pearls hangs around her neck above a crucifix necklace, her metal framed glasses also hang around her neck on a string, her hair is a silvery grey and has a certain sheen about it in the sunlight and is well kept in a bun and she has a warm smile on her face.
"Good morning Mrs Green!"
Her ginger cat Charlie sits at her feet, lapping milk up from a willow pattern saucer, his stripy tail flicking from side to side.
Her dog Gizmo is a small golden welsh corgi who is currently sat on Mr Green's deck chair looking bored and a little lonesome, his eyes focused on little Charlie.
Mr and Mrs Green like to sit in the front garden for some reason, the back garden isn't often used by them.
She looks at Hazel for a second and strains her eyes, then her fragile hand shifts the glasses over her aged eyes and she gasps with a smile.
"Well if it isn't little Hazel Robinson! Wow I haven't seen you since you were 14!"
She hurries forward to grasp one of Hazel's hands between her own pale ones and Hazel smiles kindly at her.
"Hello Mrs Green, how are you?"
"I'm brilliant yes! The more important question is how you are?"
"I'm fine thank you, I see Charlie's grown"
Mrs Green's hands are now on her cheeks as if she's just walked into her own surprise party and is thrilled about it, her eyes are fixed on Hazel who bends down to rub Charlie's head.
"He's missed you, Gizmo too! We don't have a lot of time to walk him anymore"
I fold my arms and rest against the small brick wall, a smile on my face as I watch Hazel and Mrs Green talk like they are old friends, which I suppose they are in a sense.
"And how's James? Is he still with that lovely girl Lauren?"
"Do you mean Laura?"
"Oh I'm getting old, don't mind me dear"
"Yes James is still with her, they are going strong actually, she's actually expecting"
Mrs Green gasps with wide eyes and excitement.
"That is great! Oh Hazel you don't understand how lovely it is to see you again, still so well-mannered and as beautiful as ever"
"Oh I don't know about that" Hazel says, smiling sheepishly.
Note to self- remind Hazel that she's beautiful and don't let her deny it.
"You'll have to see Bert!" Mrs G continues, hurrying past her little gnome collection to the front door.
"Bert!"
I hear footsteps coming from what sounds like wooden stairs and Bert appears.
"Yes Susan?" He says, he is a short man with silver hair and a matching beard and wears a tartan jumper over black trousers, his is voice strained and tired.
"Look who it is!"
His small eyes dart over to Hazel and a huge grin forms on his face.
"Hazel Robinson! Is that you? Oh my, it has been years!" he says walking over to her and shaking her hand.
Well actually Bert, it's only been two.
She seems to make everyone smile, I'm proud to have her in my company actually.
"You didn't tell us she was coming back Daniel!" Says Bert, grinning up at me.
"It slipped my mind" I say, scratching the back of my neck awkwardly.
"So how long are you here for?" Asks...should I call her Susan?
"Around about 2 months"
"Wow a long holiday! In my opinion there is nowhere better to go but the Isle of Wight, why so long?"
"Oh...um, Dad just decided, because I've been let out of school early" Haze says, her eyes on the ground
"Well that is truly fantastic! So what are you two up to today?" says Bert
"We're going to the park" I say
"Great day for it, listen Daniel, could you do Bert and I a huge favour and maybe take Gizmo along with you? He needs a good run" says Susan, looking suddenly sad and hopeful.
Hazel glances at me and pokes her bottom lip out in a sort of hopeful pout, she wants to I suppose.
"That'll be fine" I say
"Oh thank you! What generous people you are"
Hazel twists her hand in the hoop of Gizmo's black lead and we begin to walk down the road, waving at the elderly couple.
"Those children were brought up so well" I hear Susan add to Bert.
"How nice to see Susan and Bert again!" Says Haze, while pushing some brown hair around her ear.
"They were certainly pleased to see you" I reply, smiling at her.
"Well we used to walk Gizmo didn't we?" she asks
"Yeah we did"
Gizmo barks at mention of his name and she smiles down at him, the breeze ruffles her hair slightly
and in the sunlight her brunette hair has an appealing glow about it and it makes my smile just that little bit brighter.
We walk into the next road and then to the high street; we make a quick stop at the sweet shop and I buy some of the fudge that we got just over a week ago and then we go from there to the park.
"Shall I let him lose? There aren't any dogs around" she asks as he wags his tail excitedly and looks up at us.
"Oh go on then"
"You hear that boy?"
Gizmo barks and pants happily.
She bends down and detaches his collar and he looks up as if asking for permission and she nods, then he runs off, running around in circles and jumping up in the air to try and catch the blue, white and red speckled butterflies.
"I'm going to go and throw him a stick" she says, then runs over to the trees.
She looks really nice today, in dark blue jeggings, a plain white t-shirt and my jean jacket.
"Hazelnut?" I ask as she runs back to me with the stick.
"Yeah?" she says, her eyes on the playful Corgi as she throws the stick.
"You like wearing my jean jacket don't you?"
She freezes in retrieving the stick from Gizmo as he bounces back and avoids my eyes, her cheeks a little flushed and she quickly stands up to throw it again.
"Yeah I do?"
"Why?"
"Uh because...It's really comfortable and I like the way it smells" she says, her cheeks becoming pinker.
"Smells?" I ask with a smirk as I raise my eyebrow.
"Yeah...uh look after my bag, I'm just going to go see Gizmo"
She runs away quickly, calling to Gizmo, she sits down and he puts his paws on her knees barking at her as she giggles.
Suddenly, somebody that I used to know by Gotye begins to play from her bright red shoulder bag I look over to her, but she's cooing at Gizmo and scratching his golden ears.
I quickly dart my hand into her handbag, I rummage past the bag of fudge and now her white iphone vibrates in my hands, it's at a low volume and Hazel hasn't heard it yet.
This song is really depressing, I'm guessing she set it at the time when Harvey broke up with her. Password...uh I'll try Haze, H-A-Z-E, yes I'm in, okay it's James, my hand slides to the accept button and I quickly press it, raising it to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Hazel? You sound like a guy"
"No it's Daniel"
"I told her to put a lock on her phone, tell me honestly Dan, is she okay?"
I won't tell him that you cracked the password...that would be weird.
"Yeah she's playing with Gizmo"
"Who?"
"A neighbour's dog"
"Oh yeah I remember, let her know that I called"
"Will do, is there anything you wanted?"
"Honestly I was just checking up on her"
"Okay"
"Right, bye then Dan"
"Bye"
He ends the call and what Hazel was previously doing floods the screen.
My eyes widen, how did she get this?!
It's a picture of me from a year ago, my arm around Bella.
Hazel's got some explaining to do.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Plays dramatic music* DUN DUN DUH! Oh I don't know! I wanted a cliff-hanger okay? If this is a cliff-hanger...well I think so anyway.
So is Dan mad? Does this mean that Hazel keeps looking at the picture? Is Kirsty going to back Hazel up? Has Dan not realised why she likes wearing the coat other than it smells nice (like him if you hadn't guessed that) ?
So anyway, Susan is actually based off of my Great Grandmother or as we called her 'Grandma' I used to travel up to Wales every year to see her and my Welsh family (I'm a quarter Welsh) I still go there to see cousins and Great uncles and stuff and it is really nice going there, Bert was her husband who I never met so I kind of invented him, I think his name was Albert and they shortened it to Bert, I changed their surnames because...oh I don't know, privacy?
But a lot of my characters are based on people, Charlie in this chapter is actually my little ginger kitten, well he's actually big for his age, Murray was originally called Murphy but I kept writing Murray so I changed it to that, he was my maths tutors cat and my Mum and I adored him, the song mentioned in this chapter my friends used to say was my song for...reasons I won't go into, but yeah... :3
^This is really long...opps
Thank you so much for reading, I'd love it if you voted, left me a comment or messaged me what you thought and maybe even followed me :)
Until the next chapter
