Chapter 9: Imugi
I screamed.
Then I fainted.
When I came to, I was surrounded by darkness, so much so that I couldn't see anything. I was laying down on my side. My hands went exploring my surroundings, it seemed I was in a very wet, large and enclosed space.
The texture of the walls was very weird.
Was I in some sort of damp coffin?
Was I going to die here without any explanation?
I did the only thing I could think of as fear pervaded my whole being, I screamed.
Suddenly, something behind me was pushing me forward. The darkness in front of me opened up showing me the night sky and the gentle light of the night.
I was still being pushed out slowly by god knows what. I was afraid of resisting or intervening in the process at all, lest something awful happened.
After all, this whole day had been twist and turns. I was nearing the entrance and thanks to the light of the moon, I could see that my surroundings were a dark pink. The entrance had some kind of weird triangular cones that formed a fence, almost like the teeth of a dragon.
It was weird, when I started thinking about what landed me in this situation, I couldn't remember anything. The last moment I remembered was me stepping out of the car to go meet my friends.
The rough thing behind me gave one last strong push. I was expecting to land on the forest ground immediately. Instead I found myself falling through the air for a few seconds.
It was so unexpected, I closed my eyes and started waving my arms like it was gonna help me fly like a bird. I crashed loudly into the ground below.
My body absorbed the shock but I could feel it in my bones that I should stay down and recuperate for a little bit.
I slowly opened my eyes to be faced with my friends looking at me quizzically. "Are you ok?" Dali asked.
A "yes" escaped pathetically from my lips. "Maybe the fall hit harder than expected. Isn't he supposed to be stronger now that remembers?" Jean said to the group, entirely ignoring me.
Laura bent down to my eye level "What's the last thing you remember?"
"Stepping out of the car after reading Dali's note. After that, it's all dark. Did something happen?" I asked eager to have some answers.
Valentin went behind me, I could feel his arms go under my armpits. He helped me get up, it felt more humaliating to be in this position. He was holding me like a misbehaving child but I knew that if I wiggled from his grip, my legs would give out from under me.
"Look." Valentin's deep voice always felt so commanding, even more so since he didn't speak much.
I turned my head to the side.
All I could see was a wall of turquoise.
Laura put her hand under my chin and slowly pulled it up. That's when I saw it, the turquoise Imugi.
The memories came flooding back. I could feel myself slowly losing it. "Hello Yeobo", Miri's melodious voice said.
I turned my head to look around but couldn't see her anywhere. I heard her small laugh echo, followed with "I'm up here".
I looked up again, only to be faced with a creature that shouldn't exist in this world.
Jean sighed next to me, "I don't know how Grandma does it everytime, especially if you're this dense. Yes, you can believe your eyes, that's a real Imugi. That's also your wife Miri. The one that lives with you." She pinched my cheek hard, "See you're not dreaming. I can't believe we're your descendents. Are we really as dense as you? Or did grandma's genes just prevail?"
It was too much information or nonsense at once. I felt completely out of the loop and out of control so I did the only thing in my power.
Jean had pinched me and I couldn't let that go.
Her hand was still near me as if she intended to pinch me again.
So I bit her.
