Chapter 5

LIKE A crazed person, Selene tried to escape by scratching the stone wall that surrounded her, but to no avail, a pair of strong arms engulfed her from the back. The sudden pain caused a pained gasp from her that did not go unnoticed by the wolf god. A feral growl escaped from Lykaon's lips.

"Are you hurt?" His familiar deep voice sent a shiver down her spine which made her freeze all the more. How I wish I can act to faint just this very moment.

Selene slowly turned towards him, hoping to dislodge his possessive way of holding her, something she was not used to. "W-who are you?" Selene chanted repeatedly in her mind that she should not dwell with time. She repeated it over and over again.

"We can talk after I get you out of here," he lifted her like a sack of potato and jumped straight out of the deep well.

"What are you doing!? Ah!" She clearly underestimated the depth of the well. Selene unconsciously nudged closer, doubling the stabbing pain in her causing her to bite her lip.

Victor will kill me!

Selene felt her feet touched the ground so she immediately distanced herself away from him. "Thank you for saving me but oh look, it's raining! I have to go home. See you later!"

Selene practically dashed away from the dashing Lykaon. She ran as if her life depended on it, in some way, it really did. I got to move away from him!

Her plan turned into ashes when a monstrous white wolf blocked her way. No way!

A huge wolf as tall as Selene with a crescent moon on its forehead was growling at her like it was offended with her intention.

Kyla?

She was used to the idea that her husband was the Alpha of the Immortal Tribe but she was never used to him transforming into a big wolf in front of her. "Why are you running away from me again?"

Selene was startled when she heard Kyla's voice in her mind. "You're K-Lykaon."

"I am. And I am never used to a human running away from me. Not to mention, you ran away from me for the second time."

Selene's lilac eyes dilated from fear when she realized that Kyla recognized her. She felt cold all of a sudden and it was not from the rain soaking her thin bathroom garment but from the deep fear of what Victor told her.

Never dwell with time.

"H-How did you?"

The big white wolf circled her while sniffing her body, marking his territory. "I recognized your smell, the unique smell of moonlight."

What? Then, did he not meet Luna?

Dread consumed Selene upon realizing what she possibly did. She did ruin the original timeline of the legend! What did she do?

"I have to go! Please let me go," Selene's voice cracked. She tried her best not to flinch from pain every time his muzzle touched her skin.

"Never," the white wolf growled possessively which made her flinched unconsciously. Her action caused the white wolf to whimper, nudging his head to her neck like he was asking her forgiveness and understanding.

No! I can't endanger you anymore!

"No, I-I have to go. I promise I will meet you again."

Lykaon turned back to his human form, "When? After another three months? I am tired of fearing that I might not see you again."

"What do you mean? Didn't you meet a girl?" What about Luna? Didn't you meet her?

"I only met you. I spent the past three months looking for you. I wanted to come after you when I heard you leave in that cottage but I smelled the hunters coming. I could not risk you safety."

What?

Selene's head was throbbing from realizing what she did. Did I alter the timeline because I saved him?

Selene remembered the legend. The second time Luna and Lykaon met was under the rain. I did change the timeline!

"I-I must go!"

Her third attempt to leave him failed again when his hand stopped her. "Not a chance. Meet me again at that well tomorrow since the Harvest Festival will end soon. There will be dances in honor for Demeter."

Just to make him agree, Selene nodded furiously before running into the woods.

"I will be waiting for you!"

What have I done! Victor will kill me!

SELENE EXPECTED Victor to scold her the moment she returned, but she only found an empty temple. The god of the undead was nowhere to be found saved the pentagram and the pool.

"Victor? Where are you?"

All the torches inside the temple went off when a sudden laugh resonated in the place. Purple-colored flame replaced the fire in the torches of the temple that gave an eerie feeling to Selene. "So you are the one who meddled the time from long ago." A high-pitched voice came from the purple fire.

"Who are you?" Is he a minor god? No. His holy power is far superior to Victor. Then, is he one of the prime gods?

"Guess who?"

A dark holy presence that symbolized the souls of the underworld, Selene could guess who he was. "Hades?"

"Ding ding ding! You called?" A child came out from the fire. Though he was a child in appearance his eyes told her otherwise.

"What did you do to Victor?"

Victor's disappearance could only be traced to Hades. The latter seems to wait for her to appear from the pool. Is he here to stop me?

"No, I'm not. Stopping you will be a total waste of time. Not when you can't change a thing. And Victor? I made him do some errand." The wicked smile of Hades gave shivers to Selene.

Selene wanted to ask Hades about the cure but she remembered what Victor said so instead she asked Hades something she never imagined she would be asking to the god of the Underworld. "Since you are the one behind Victor's disappearance, you must send me back in his stead."

Hades cackled from what she said, "You're a curious thing, substitute of Luna. Well then, since you entertained me enough I'll send you back to the time you promised him to."

Selene was not prepared for the sudden change of her surroundings. One time she was standing before the childlike god then the next moment she was standing in front of the well she fell from the last time.

"Don't tell me," Selene trailed when she just noticed now the joyous beat of the drums from the nearby village. The Harvest Festival!

"You came," the velvety voice of the golden-eyed wolf god made Selene turned sharply to where his voice came from. It was like her body acted on its own.

How I missed you, my love, Kyla.
