Chapter 137: The Merge
Yeah, I haven't watched Dragon's Rising except the first like 2-4 episodes but fuck it we ball. I got Transcripts for a reason and a brain that won't stop day-dreaming!
It seemed like a distant past now, the peace felt with the ninja was never long lived. Several years have passed since the twins were born, and since the Merge. But back then, nobody knew what to call it. It was just chaos.
The day the sky opened up, was the day everyone seemed to lose everything. They realized they had witnessed the Merge firsthand. The moment all the mysterious realms everyone has only heard about merged with Ninjago, for reasons no one's been able to figure out.
The ninja was on the scene firsthand to help as many as they could. They soon, however, mysteriously vanished.
"With my parents and home gone, I had to make a new life for myself. Before, everyone I knew looked like me. Now I walk the streets with skeleton people, buy food from snail people, sell pies to frog people! And since the ninja disappeared, I realized it's up to me to carry on their legendary tradition."
"Ha!"
Arin turned his head to his two friends sitting amongst the dogs in a junkyard at night. One being a girl with cat ears, and the other a boy with blonde hair and green eyes.
"Arin, not to insult the dreams of my best new friend, but... you are so not a ninja." Sora says.
"How would you know, Sora? You didn't grow up with them like we did." Arin turns to her "All I need is a master to train me. Back me up here Len."
"Wish I could, but she's right." Len agrees with his arm crossed "The ninja trained for many, many years and still aren't perfect. Look where we are, we're in a junkyard in the middle of the night. Our friends and family are gone."
"Yeah, speaking of that." Arin glances at Sora "Have you found what we need yet? I can only distract these dogs from making noise for so long. Uh, I don't have that many stories to tell."
"Give me a second." Sora picks up an item. "Boom! And we didn't even set off the-"
The alarm sounds and Len stands up.
"Crap," Arin panics.
Security guards come out from hiding "Halt! Halt! Halt!"
"We should be leaving now." Arin takes a step back.
"I always like how you think." Sora agrees.
"Move," Len pushes them and they quickly run away from the bots.
I remember before all this happened, way more than Sora. That's right, I'm the precious son of the green ninja and Empress Aria, or one of them at least. My father, uncles, and aunt Reika were all quick to protect Ninjago when the Merge happened. I was six at the time.
It's been three years since I've seen my father or mother. When the Merge happened, my mother, brother, and I were at the palace. I remember my mother holding the both of us close when we were ripped away from her.
I found myself alone in an unknown world, I of course followed what my father told me when I was younger. Find shelter, stay hidden, and wait. I did all those things, but nobody ever found me. When I eventually went into town, I heard the stories of how the ninja disappeared without a trace into the Merge.
There was no news of my brother or mother. I'm nine years old now, I was able to make two friends on my own, these two that I'm traveling with, Arin and Sora. The more Arin reminds me of ninja though, the more torn I am about this whole situation.
I want to believe in my heart that my family is alive and well, and trying to find each other. With the passing days though, hope, is something that is fading. My mother was overprotective as I grew up, and I knew if she was here, she would've found me by now. Or at least my father and brother.
"Oh, there's got to be an easier way to get mechanical parts!" Arin whines.
"There is! It's called having money." Sora replies
"Which is not exactly our situation." Len adds.
"After tomorrow it might be!" Arin tells them.
"Halt! Halt! Halt!" The security bots begin to shoot at the three.
Arin stops and turns to them "Alright, then! Ninja-"
"You're not a ninja!" Sora and Len shout.
"Wannabe ninja, go!" Arin kicks away the robots with Spinjitzu before landing on his butt.
"Rough landing, but you're getting better at that." Sora compliments "Let's go! Len, can you make a distraction?"
"Distraction's my middle name," Len chuckles.
Len takes Arin's grappling hook before shooting it onto a ledge, he swings up and kicks the robots. He swings around them drawing their fire while Sora begins to hack them.
"Man, that looks fun." Arin whines.
The bots soon stop shooting and switch to dancing. Len stops swinging and jumps onto the ground, landing perfectly. He reals in the grappling hook before handing it back to Arin.
"I will never get over how quickly you can hack stuff like that." Arin says as he puts his grappling hook back into his pocket.
"What can I say?" Sora shrugs "I'm just naturally good at tech stuff. It's been like that since I was a kid."
"You two are so cool," Arin hugs Len "I'm so glad we're all together."
Arin and Sora begin to walk out of the junkyard, Len stops and looks back at the place before running after them. The group walks through the crossroads, greeting the neighbors as they went.
"I still can't get over how amazing the Kingdom of Imperium looks." Arin comments as he looks off into the distance "It's perfect, isn't it?"
"Don't believe everything you hear about Imperium." Sora pokes his side "I'm from there, remember? Their idea of perfect isn't mine."
"And Ninjago, was perfect Arin." Len reminds him "We had a great city, a great ruler-"
"Of course we did!" Arin turns to him looking excited "I always saw Empress Aria on the tv, I saw her when she was the purple ninja too! She was so pretty and the perfect match for the green ninja! Huh..." he trails off "I wonder if their kids are around still, they had two sons, didn't they?"
"...yeah." Len replies as he took a step away from him "You really idolize everything ninja, don't you?"
"Of course I do, they're my heroes." Arin says proudly.
Len shakes his head before Sora and Arin races to the top of their penthouse. Len climbs up as usual and jumps into the window. The two were talking excitedly about the race the next day when suddenly, the ground quakes violently.
"Another earthquake?" Sora sighs "It seems like they're happening more often."
"They never happened at all before the Merge." Arin says "Hey, do you ever wonder if there's a greater purpose for all this? Like, a reason for the Merge?"
"A reason?" Len questions.
"The Merge might have taken away everything you had, Arin." Sora says "But it's given me everything I have. Change can be scary, but it's also a chance for something better."
"But you actually had somewhere you wanted to escape from," Len points out. "For the people of Ninjago, we were happy where we were."
"That's true," Sora sighs before looking between the two boys "So, you still banking on your family being around?"
"They've gotta be somewhere," Arin says "they might just be lost, like we are."
"I don't know anymore," Len sat on his bed "if the ninja isn't even around anymore... it's possible they're not anymore."
"Don't say that, Len!" Arin grabs his shoulders "We just gotta have hope!"
"Maybe, you can just have enough hope for the both of us." Len smiles sadly.
The next day, Sora and Arin headed to the race while Len sat at home reading an old book. The book was the only thing he's found on the road when he was alone, it was his most prized possession now. For the simple reasoning that it was the story his mother read to him and his brother when they were younger.
Len was startled by the door opening with a bang and dropped the book on his face.
"Len, look who we found!"
"Ow," Len takes the book off his face and sat up "Could you guys-"
Len's eyes widened seeing Arin and Sora standing with none other than the green ninja. Lloyd put up his mask quickly, his eyes wide as well.
"Isn't it awesome!" Arin shouts excitedly "We have so much to tell you-"
"Arin." Sora put her hand over his mouth.
Arin moved her hand "What'd you do that for-"
"Son?!" Lloyd shouts in surprise, his eyes watering.
"Dad!" Len shot up and hugged his father tightly. "You're alive... you're really alive."
"Uh... what?" Arin looks confused as he watched his hero hugging one of his best friends tightly. "Hold on, wait a minute..."
"Just be quiet," Sora whispers to him.
"Len," Lloyd takes his son's face and holds it in his hands "Is that really you?"
"Yeah dad," Len replies with tears going down his face "it's me."
"You've gotten so big," Lloyd smiles "look at you."
"I thought I'd never see you or mom again," Len says.
"I... I still haven't found your mother." Lloyd admits with a sad look "Or your brother, I'm guessing you haven't either."
"No," Len looks down sadly.
"We'll find them," Lloyd tells him "For now, at least I finally found you."
"I've missed you so much dad," Len hugs him again.
Lloyd turns to the other two "Thank you, for looking after my son."
"To be fair, Arin had no idea Len was your son." Sora points out.
"Shush!" Arin smacks her before turning back to Lloyd "Len's helped us out a lot too, so I was happy to be his friend."
"Well, let's go home." Lloyd held Len's hand "We got some work to do."
Later, at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Lloyd searches for scrolls while the kids stood around the room.
"I can't believe it! I'm in the Monastery of Spinjitzu!" Arin fanboys before looking around "I gotta say, though, it's a little weirder than I pictured it."
"The weird stuff is new." Lloyd tells them "This place got really strange after the Merge."
"Clearly," Len agrees as he looked at his old childhood home, well, his second home.
Sora grabs Arin's shoulders "Arin, focus. We have to find the dragon's home."
"After the Merge, Kai began to explore some of the new lands." Lloyd says.
"You've seen Uncle Kai?" Len asks.
"Not exactly. It's a long story." Lloyd replies "But Kai sent notes about the places he'd seen. I'm pretty sure I saw those mountains in here somewhere."
Len looks down when he felt something nuzzle his hand, it was the baby dragon. Len bent down and took the scroll out of its mouth before patting it on the head. Len stood back up and handed the scroll to his dad.
"Man, he really seems to like you." Arin whines. "I'm jealous."
"Well, that's probably because Len's part dragon," Lloyd explains as he opens up the scroll.
"You're part dragon?!" Arin's mouth opens.
"Yeah..." Len smacked Arin's jaw, closing it.
"Ow," Arin covered his mouth. "How?"
"You're forgetting the famous purple ninja is my mother," Len points out "and-"
"Oh! She was a dragon, right?!" Arin questions excitedly.
"...this boy is seriously.. you know what, I'm not even going to say it." Sora crosses her arms.
"The Land of the Three Mountains." Lloyd shows the scroll to Len and his friends "But it's far away, and the only airship I still have, is the new Destiny's Bounty."
They arrive at the hangar bay where an unfinished Destiny's Bounty sat.
"Woah!" Arin stares at it in awe.
"But it isn't finished, and I don't have the skill to complete work on the engine." Lloyd sighs.
"I might know someone who does." Sora tries to use her powers but fails again. "Ugh, really?" She looks at the baby dragon "Back me up, buddy." She then turns to Lloyd "Do elemental powers come and go?"
"No. Well, sometimes." Lloyd sighs again "Elemental powers can be complicated. It can take a lot of work to achieve one's True Potential."
"Okay, then." Sora picks up a tool "I'll get this thing going the old-fashioned way."
Sora hums as she began to work on the new Destiny's Bounty.
"Do you think we'll be able to find the others with this done dad?" Len asks as he looks up at Lloyd.
"I don't know," Lloyd admits as he put a hand on Len's shoulder "But we can try."
"I really hope Ren's okay," Len looks away.
"Your brother's always been an independent child, I trust that he's fine, just like you." Lloyd tells him "If anything, I'm worried about your mother... knowing her she may have destroyed an entire few kingdoms by now looking for you two."
Len chuckles "Mom's just like that, she really loves us."
"She's really overprotective that's what she is," Lloyd laughs "I hope she's not causing trouble."
