I [usually] LOVE the weekend
After a long week of school I always look forward to the weekend. The weekend serves as a time for me to relax, catch up on my sleep, binge watch Netflix, and regain my sanity.
But this weekend was different...I didn't look forward to it... because it signified the end of my spring break.
In high school spring break was kind of a nightmare. The teachers (at my school at least) piled on the homework to guarantee that they didn't lose any teaching time. College on the other hand is completely different; the complete opposite. The professors want you (and themselves lol) to actually enjoy your break. Due dates are pushed back, and lectures are put on pause. In other words, us students have no academic responsibilities what so ever. Being a first year college student this was my first real spring break...and let me tell you, it was unreal, and incredibly freeing. I was home with friends and family just eating, sleeping, Netflixing, and relaxing. I was basically having an eleven day weekend minus the guilt and anxiety of putting off my work until Sunday night. It was beautiful.
But bam. Just like that...it's gone. It's Sunday evening, break is over, and I'm back on campus with loads of academic responsibilities that are all due tomorrow. What a night and day contrast! I feel like someone just snatched me from my utopia, dropped me into some foreign land, and allowed me to hit the ground running.
I'm so tired of classes, I'm ready for the semester to be over, and I'm ready for summer vacation to start. I'm burned out, out of motivation, and honestly don't think I have the strength to finish this semester.
Our strength is limited, but our God's strength isn't. When we ask Jesus into our heart we become one with Him, and therefore have access to everything He has...including His [unlimited] strength. All we have to do is ask for it. He loves us, longs to help us, and He loves when we depend on Him.
Personally, when I feel drained and/ or unmotivated it's really easy for me to simply binge watch Netflix. In the moment it makes me feel relaxed, but in reality it's not actually giving me strength.
When I feel drained one of the last things I want to do is read my Bible, but lately I've been finding that it's so much more refreshing and rejuvenating than watching Netflix. While watching Netflix I feel relaxed in the moment, but right after I'm slapped in the face by all my very stressful situations. Reading my Bible doesn't make the mountain of work in front of me disappear, but it does make that mountain possible to climb. I feel a hope, joy, and readiness that Netflix simply can't provide.
Lately I've been reading Psalms to unwind. One of my all-time favorites is Psalm 145. Here's my favorite piece of it :)
"God always does what he says, and is gracious in everything he does. God gives a hand to those down on their luck, gives a fresh start to those ready to quit. All eyes are on you, expectant; you give them their meals on time. Generous to a fault, you lavish your favor on all creatures. Everything God does is right—the trademark on all his works is love. God's there, listening for all who pray, for all who pray and mean it. He does what's best for those who fear him—hears them call out, and saves them. "
- Psalm 145:13-19 (MSG)
Dear God,
Thank you for being near. Thank you for not only hearing us, but also responding to us. God please give me (and anyone else feeling drained, and/ or unmotivated) the strength to go on. Give us your strength, joy, determination, motivation, and "can-do" attitude. Help us to remember that you've got us, you've never left us, and that you never will. Help us to fully depend on, and put our trust in you. Help us to turn to you in overwhelming times, and to find our rest in you, and in you alone. Thank you for loving us, and thank you for always being by our side. We love you, and we give you all the glory. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
Oh yeah! Here's one of my favorite songs for times like these! It's called "O'Lord", and Lauren Daigle sings it! It's amazingggg! I'll put the link below! Be sure to check it out, tell me what you think in the comment section! :)
If you've already had spring break, how was it?! What did you do?? How do you feel about being back?
If you're not on break yet (hang in there!!), what do you plan to do? (:
Which classes are you taking, and how are they treating you?! Easy? Hard? Nearly impossible?!
What are some of your favorite verses, and/ or songs to turn to when you feel tired and unmotivated?
Leave me some answers in the comment section :)
Lots of love, and God bless! Xx
