I Hate This (Chapter 1)
"Nadia. Nadia! NADIA!" the teacher yelled from his board. "Five more minutes," a petite dark skinned girl in the back grumbled, the class laughed, the girl's head snapped up. "Good morning Nadia, nice of you to join us. Care to solve this problem up on board? Since this subject was so easy you felt you could nap?" The teacher said through one of those smiles teachers give you when they think they've won that makes them look constipated. This was poetry -Nadia's weak point- she was a smart girl by any standards, straight A's, volunteered, captain of the volleyball team, but poetry was hard because it required putting your feelings into words. Nadia's never cared much for emotions, she doesn't see a point in them despite her "special ability". She could see the relationships people had between each other by a string invisible to human eye, except her's of course. Never the less, she trudged up to the board, looking only at the floor, and took the expo marker from the smirking teacher. Why should I care about what this stupid poet means? Just say what you have to say or don't say it at all, don't make it confusing. She thought and tried to work out the problem on the board. A- nothing good can last, B- fear can ruin anything if you let it, C- Don't get over confident. "When in doubt, pick 'C'". Nadia remembered as she circled the last answer choice ignoring the classes snickers. The teacher smiled brightly as he took the marker back from the sleepy student, "You're close but not quite there yet. Any other takers?" She said as she turned to the rest of the class, Why sugar coat it, just say what you mean. "No Nadia, you're wrong again you stupid child." Nadia thought as she put her head down on the desk. "The answer is B, Mr.Smith." She heard the blonde headed student council president answer in a sickening sweet voice. Nadia peeked up from her arms to see an orange string connecting the perfect student to Mr.Smith. Ugh. Gross. An orange string identifies when people are dating, though there wasn't much I can do. I can't exactly say, "Yeah, I know their dating cause I have powers to see the connections between people and they have a dating string." Nadia thought going back to the comfortable nook in her arms as the bell rang loudly. Everyone quickly packed up their books before someone could mention last night's homework and rushed out the door. Nadia groaned as she pushed through to her next class, the hallway was full of strings, blue, (friendship) green, (hate) orange (dating) and lastly red (Soulmates in love). She ran into the bathroom and planned on waiting until everyone was gone since it was her free period. After about three minutes she heard the second bell ring and went out into the hall to walk to her spot. Outside was a cherry blossom tree that Nadia sat by when she wasn't in class, she sat down and leaned against the trunk as her eyes slowly fell heavy, sleep taking over.
Where am I? Nadia thought as she looked at the empty black space around her. "Oh good! I found you," a voice said. "Who are you?" The girl said as she tried and failed to find the source of the voice, "I'm afraid I can't tell you that, they told me specifically not to." the voice said again, though this time she could see the source. A boy walked out of the darkness rubbing the back of his neck, he had black hair that flipped up in in the front, a gray t-shirt to match his gray eyes, jeans and black high tops. "Who's 'they'?" Nadia asked cautiously coming closer to the mysterious boy, " Can't tell you that either, I wish I could really but they'd get really mad and I don't really want to be on house arrest again." He replied taking a few steps closer to Nadia so they were at a normal distance from each other, she didn't really know what to say. Who is this guy? Where are we? Who is 'they?' "Anyway, we're running out of time. Look, I want to tell you more but I can't, all I can say is come back to this tree at midnight. Bring a bag of anything you want." The boy raising his hand over his head, "See you soon," he said then snapped his fingers and disappeared before Nadia could say anything. The sun burned her eyes as Nadia woke up, so it was just a dream. It felt so real though, but it couldn't be. Could it?
