When it first appeared
"Hey Big Bro! Wait for me!" A little girl raced after a brown haired boy.
He turned around to face her.
"You're still too slow Komaru," he teased and she pouted.
"Just you wait, Makoto. One day I'll be faster than you," she said.
"I believe you. But until then...race you to the park!" He said and ran off.
"Hey no fair! You got a head start!" Komaru shouted after her older brother and ran.
(At the park)
"I won!" Makoto cheered. "No fair," Komaru whined.
"Whaaat? What do you mean 'no fair?' I won, fair and square," he explained.
"You got a head start. Doesn't count. Let's race again," Komaru said.
"Alright. Alright. We'll race to the swings ok?" Makoto asked. Komaru nodded.
"Ok, three, two, one, go!" The siblings ran towards the swings with Makoto in the lead.
I'm so going to win again! He thought, happily.
However, he tripped over his shoe laces and fell. He held his hands out to cushion his fall.
"Ow," he muttered and looked his now bruised hands.
"Big bro, big bro. Are you ok?" Komaru asked as she came up to her brother.
"Yeah I'm fine. Don't worry about it," he assured her.
Something caught his eye. He looked at his hands one last time. There!
On his right hand, wrapped around his pinkie, was a red thin string.
Makoto's eyes widen at this. He had heard stories about this from his parents. He was told that one day, this will happen to him.
"Eh? What's wrong Big Brother?" Komaru asked.
"Komaru, what was that story that Mom and Dad told us both about?" Makoto asked, still staring at his pinkie.
Komaru put a finger on her chin, thinking. "Ummmm...was it the soulmate one?" She asked.
Makoto nodded and Komaru gasped.
"Don't tell me...wait. You have a red string?!" She asked.
"Apparently," Makoto finally looked up to see his sister's excited face.
"Kyaaa! My Big Bro has a soulmate!" Komaru bounced around excitedly.
"C-calm down. I just noticed this so I don't know who it is yet," Makoto said.
"Well since you can see your string, your soulmate must be in the park right now. I wonder if it's a boy or a girl or a non binary person. The possibilities are endless," Komaru wondered.
"Where did you learned that word? Non binary?" Makoto asked.
"Oh Mom said that word when she was talking to one of her friends from work. I asked her what it means and she told me," Komaru explained.
Her curiosity has no bounds I guess, Makoto thought.
He looked down at his finger again. The string was getting thinner and thinner until he could no longer see it. He could still feel it's presence, a warm, cinnamon scent presence.
Is that...my soulmate's scent? He wondered.
"Big Bro, wanna go look for them?" Komaru asked.
"I think they left the park already," Makoto said.
"Aww really? What if you never see them again?" Komaru asked, worriedly.
"Don't worry about it. I'm sure I'll meet them again. We'll go find them someday," he assured her.
Komaru smiled at this.
"Erm Big Bro?"
"Yeah?"
"When do you think I'll find my own soulmate?"
Makoto stayed quiet at this. He had just found out that he has a soulmate out there somewhere so this caught him by surprise.
"I'm sure you'll find yours one day," he assured her after a while of thinking.
"Ok. Let's play on the swings now!" Komaru cheered and ran at the swings.
"Hey you got a head start!" Makoto called after his sister.
(Earlier)
A small boy was playing in the sandpit with his fire truck and his teddy bear who was wearing a firefighter's outfit.
"And Captain Snuggles saves the day again!" The boy cheered as the bear 'rescued' the stick from the 'burning' sand building that the boy created.
"Well lookie here. It's the girly boy again," a voice behind him said.
Oh no, the boy thought.
He turned around to face three bigger boys who looked at him in disgust.
"C-can we not do this please? You already threw water and juice at me the other day," the boy asked.
"Well suuure. We'll leave it to a day where you're feeling better," the boy on the right said.
His companions looked at him confused.
"Wait I thought we were going to do something today?" The boy on the left asked.
"What no. Geez you two are dummies," the boy on the right said.
"Akio, Taro, Bruno. Can you please leave?" The boy asked.
"Hey! Who gave you permission to use our first names, Fujisaki Chihiro?" Bruno asked, cracking his knuckles menacingly.
Chihiro squeaked at this.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry," he apologized.
"I thought you were smarter than these two. Well guess not," Taro sighed.
"Taro, you're on thin ice right now. Boys, it's about time that we show girly Fujisaki here how real men are supposed to be like," Akio said.
Taro and Bruno grabbed Chihiro's arms and held him up so Akio could hit him.
"No stop it! Please," Chihiro begged, his eyes filling with tears.
Turns out, Akio didn't even had the chance to hit him.
"Chihiro! We need to go home now," Chihiro's father called out to him and sounded like he was close.
"Quick! Scram!" All three boys ran off, dropping Chihiro as they did so.
Chihiro sat on his knees, crying.
His father noticed this and ran up to his son.
"Chihiro what's wrong?" He asked, worriedly.
"They...they *sniff*," Chihiro hiccuped.
"There, there. We're going home and you'll be safe there," his father rubbed circles around Chihiro's back.
He lifted him up, picked up his toys and began to walk to the car.
As they were walking away, Chihiro noticed something on his pinkie.
A thin red string was wrapped around it. It stretched out to the park.
Is that...my soulmate string? He wondered, remembering the story that his mom told him about.
The string kept stretching until he reached the car and his father drove away from the park.
The string disappeared but he could still sense it. It was a warm scent but it smelled wet. Like rain. Calm, soothing rain.
I'll find them one day. Hopefully. I got other things to think about, he thought.
He didn't want to be bullied anymore so he had to come up with a plan to hide from them.
"Oh Papa, can we stop here for a moment?" Chihiro asked, looking at a boutique shop.
"Oh...ok?" His father looked confused.
They entered the shop and Chihiro immediately went to the girl clothing aisle.
"Umm Chihiro, what are you doing?" His father asked awkwardly.
"I'm tired of being bullied by others because I look like a girl. So in order to not get bullied as much as I do, I'm going to wear girl clothes to hide. It's the only solution I could come up with. Besides, I'm sure the clothes are comfortable like how Momma says they are," Chihiro explained.
His father bit his lip, thinking.
He knew about the bullying and his wife and him tried everything to stop it but anything they would do wouldn't stop it.
If that truly was the only solution that Chihiro could come up with, then I'll support him with all of my heart, he thought.
"Let's see if there's any of your size," he said and Chihiro smiled.
Hopefully, I'll get bullied less, Chihiro thought.
After shopping for clothes, they went back home.
A/N: I am so excited to start this. I have been wanting to make a Naehiro book for a long time and I could finally make one.
