Chapter 14

Many weeks had passed. I was getting stronger and stronger physically yet weaker and weaker mentally. I yearned for adventure and excitement; growing restless of my sanctuary. Any identity I had previously held had floated away like wisps of smoke, slipping through my desperate fingers.

Who was I and where did I belong?

I shook these thoughts from my mind and resumed my packing. Soon I would leave this place. The dwarves left Rivendell on foot which would have made the journey much longer. I estimated that they would have taken three months to reach Laketown on foot which, on an elven horse, I could at least half that time. They were now probably at the elven gate, assuming everything had gone to plan. They were also a large party which made them slower and more prone to delay due to forest fiends and those who hunted them. I was confident that they would be fine as long as Gandalf was accompanying them.

It was decided. I would leave for the company tomorrow. After notifying Elrond of my intentions, I decided to head over to the stables and get to know my recently met travel companion; Aurêl, meaning Morning star. He was a glorious horse, strong willed. I could envision him standing tall in battle, never ceasing, never faltering. I could tell how he got his namesake, he was entirely ebony spare a brilliant white star on his forehead. Every day for the last month I had been tending to him and bonding with him. I knew he would take me to where I needed to go.

I had also received new equipment over the last week. From Elrond, a map of middle earth to ensure I would not run into danger and some new clothes for the journey. These clothes consisted of forest colours; tree bark brown boots, a moss green tunic and pine coloured leggings and undershirt. They were both light and strong which was perfect for what I was going to face.

Maenor had also gifted me with my own bow made from an ash tree. Beautiful patterns criss-crossed the bow and resembled the designs of Rivendell's iconically enchanting structures. The arrows were equally as mesmerising with fletches made from the most beautiful feathers and the arrowheads carved from the same wood as the bow with equal homage paid to their origin.

I had also been left with a third gift although I did not know the identity of the person who had left me this third gift. Left on my bed was a sword. It had a fair and simple design. It was a long, sleek and curved sword with gold embellishments around the hilt and down the blade however these were not Rivendell leaves yet I didn't know where these golden leaves originated. I was grateful nonetheless.

My last meal in Rivendell was somewhat sombre. I would miss the peaceful sound of the forest and the golden sunlight. However I was glad that my hunger for adventure was finally being sated. At the end of the meal I said my last goodbyes to many spare Elrond. He had decided to see me off at first light.

I retired to my bedchamber and drew the bath. This would be the last wash I would have in a long time so I made the most of it and soaked for a while longer than usual. The happy smiles I had once encountered from a certain hobbit blossomed in my mind. I hoped they had not been snuffed out along his journey, hopefully his joy was far too powerful to be overcome by the evil along the road for I longed to see his smiling face once more; his bright and curious eyes that had once brought me peace, despite not physically seeing them due to my injuries, I could still envision them.

I dried myself off and got dressed for my last comfortable sleep. However sleep seemed reluctant to set in as if I subconsciously didn't want to leave the sanctuary of my current residence. I reminded myself that I had a duty to perform and I would do so out of respect for Radagast and therefore Gandalf. Soon enough sleep set in and I wandered through the stars.

The night flew by and I awoke at dawn feeling robbed of the long and peaceful sleep I had promised myself. Reluctantly I pulled back the covers and prepared for the long journey ahead of myself. First I changed into the clothes that Elrond had given to me and then began twisting my hair into a simple braid, tying back any hair that would prove bothersome. Then I equipped all of my weapons, both new and old. Leaving the room s I found it, I traveled down the long corridor and to the stables to meet with my noble Morning star.

Thankfully Aurêl had already been tacked up which saved me the trouble. I led him out of the stable and towards the entrance to Rivendell where Elrond stood pensively. I broke him from his thoughts on my approach. His concerned expression broke away and reformed into a smile but it didn't quite reach his eyes.

"Manka amin Lotesse, mani naa rashweien lle heru Elrond?" I asked, feeling concerned myself.

{"If I may, what is troubling you lord Elrond?"

"Amin nae nowaien en' mani nat' lotesse tul a waan-" He replied. This didn't satisfy my concerns but it would have to do.

{"I was thinking of what things may come to pass"

My attention was then drawn towards the item he was carrying. Elrond noticed this and spoke once more whilst handing me this object, "Amin caela er tella anna on- lle."

{"I have one last gift to give to you

"Diola lle," I said as I opened the travel bag. It contained a multitude of foods and clothes for the journey and a small pendant which I assumed was a small gift for luck. I pulled it out of the bag and admired it thoughtfully, thanking Elrond again as I did so. The pendant was a soft, shiny silver piece shaped like leaves around the clearest blue gemstone I had ever lain eyes upon. Enchanted, I fastened the pendant to rest at the hollow of my throat. I could feel the cool metal send shivers across my skin as it glinted in the morning sun.

"Sii' lle caela aut- no' lle men," Lord Elrond reminded me, "namaarie Caladhiel ar' varna tarna."

{"Now you have to go on your way, farewell Caladhiel and safe passage."

I nodded my head in thanks. It was time to go and fulfill what had been tasked to me.

"Auta amin Aurêl" I called to my horse and my journey began.

{"Go my morning star."
