Chapter 10

I retired to my chamber and took a quick bath to scrub away the dirt. Once I was adequately clean, I walked over to my wardrobe and looked through the outfits for an appropriate dress. There were a few to pick from but I decided on a beautiful lavender dress with velvet crossing the white front and elegantly flowing sleeves to accentuate the delicate look of the gown. I slipped into it and looked into the mirror in the centre of the wall.

The dress hung off of my shoulders and hugged my figure in the right places. I could have easily passed for royalty if I had been in possession of a tiara. My eyes traced the dress up to my neck which was a simple yet beautiful square neckline. I then looked up to my face. My still damp hair clung to my face but it didn't hide my protruding cheekbones and jawline. I could have been considered beautiful if I was born within the race of men but within the race of elves, I was merely average. Lastly my eyes caught themselves in the reflection and I was momentarily shocked at what I saw before me. My eyes were shining the same shade of purple my dress. Confusion clouded my mind as I tried to figure out why my eyes were not their usual shade of icy blue.

I was certain that it was just the light that was filtering through and changing my eyes so I dismissed the topic and began braiding my hair as it dried. My ebony hair was now at my waist which luckily didn't cause any inconvenience for me when I was combing through it. I decided to simply braid the sides and tie them together at the back of my neck letting it hang past my nape and join the rest of my hair. After it had dried fully I slipped into some simple, heelless shoes and made my way to what I assumed would be the dining area.

I sat at the table and waited patiently for the food to be served. I was sat opposite Arwen who I had met in passing earlier. Of course, she was sat beside Lord Elrond who was unnerving me with a stare of concern. I couldn't figure out why he would possibly be concerned for me but while I was busy pondering, the surrounding tables had been filled and the food was being served.

Baskets of fresh bread were placed at set intervals on every table accompanied by fresh olives and delicately patterned bottles filled with balsamic vinegar. Everyone was reaching out to the baskets and filling their plates with the bread and olives then garnishing their food with the sweet vinegar. I reached out and did the same. I lifted the bread to my mouth and enjoyed the delicious flavours circling my mouth. It was different to the food at my last home with Radagast; we mainly ate the wild food that grew there in the form of stews. The food here was more simplistic but just as appealing.

When the bread was finished, everyone engaged in merry chatter except for Lord Elrond of course. He was staring down at the table, deep in thought. I didn't understand. Then realisation hit me. Earlier, my eyes had shon violet in the light. Were they also doing the same here? My eyes flashed up to meet Elrond's and I could see exactly what he was aware of.

The connection between our eyes was broken by a slender hand swiftly picking up an empty bowl and putting in it's place, our main meal; salted pork accompanied with vegetables, carefully grown. Beautiful, green bottles of wine were placed on the tables aside intricately patterned glasses.

As the main meal commenced, soft music floated in the air and I looked over to see a few musicians each playing their instruments gracefully; one had a flute pressed to her mouth and her lips puckered as she blew soft melodies into the air, another was sat with a glorious harp and she was effortlessly strumming beautiful chords to accompany the floor and they were both accompanied by a loot that was lovingly plucked by a male musician. Had I not been put on edge by Lord Elrond's concern gaze, I may have even found myself losing awareness of my surroundings as the lullaby played on through the meal.

The meal swiftly ended and as I stood from myseat and strode back to my chambers, a firm hand caught my arm, stopping me mid step. I turned to meet a concerned pair of eyes.

"Saesa-aya lle tul a yassen amin, Caladhiel" Lord Elrond politely requested.

{ Please could you come with me, Claldhiel

So I have a cold somehow despite it being almost summer.

Sorry I didn't hit my wordcount but the chapter didn't need much more and I didn't want to just fill it with random crap. Quality over quantity or whatever.
