I walked into school on this dreary overcast Monday

morning. I walked into the cafeteria where most everyone goes

to wait in the morning before the 7:57 bell rings. Where

everyone can get a free breakfast and then socialize with each

other and such. It's the first day of school and I can see there are

already plenty of new kids. Actually there's quite a few. Eight

girls even and seven boys. Holy shit fifteen total. I think that's a

school record. I've gone to Gonan school since kindergarten so I

would know. A few minutes later my best friend Kimberly

Collins walks in and comes to sit with me.

       "We have fifteen flipping new kids this year." I say

emphasizing the fifteen.

       "Holy shit man!" she says surveying the rest of the room.

       "You're telling me. It's crazy." I say looking them all over once

more.

    ***

       When the bell finally does ring, we all enter the gym in a

crazy ass mob for the start of a new year school wide assembly.

I stick with Kimberly and we sit in the bleachers on the

right hand side of the gym and watch as the rest of the school

walk in all looking half asleep. A handful or two of kids look

really excited and not so half asleep. Then the new kids enter all

looking nervous. I chuckle lightly.

       The principal walks in and over to a podium at the front of

the gym which is in front of the stage.  He says "Well, welcome to

a new year at Gonan High school and Middle school. For those of

you who don't know me, I'm Mr. Neil, the principal here at this

fine school." He continues.

       Beside me Kimberly snickers.

       About twenty minutes later he announces that he will

introduce all of the new students to us.
      
       "I just ask that you stand up when you hear your name. Kelly  
   Hall, Brenda Jones, Josh Ughson, Maddie West, Sadie Thomas,

Vinnie Porter, Samantha Murray, Elliot Parker, Monica Brown,

Toby Walker,  Todd Walker, Bri Cook, Ila Anderson, Jason

Karson, and Jake Karson."

       When he finally finishes I see the sixteen new kids all

standing in various places. I look around and look them all over

again. The twins Jason and Jake aren't so bad looking, I might

even go as far as to say they're cute. Yes they're definitely cute.

They're not tall but not short, look athletic, have dirty blonde hair,
beautiful blue eyes, and the one they called Jake has braces. Even

better. At least now I can tell the  apart.

       Out of the corner of my eye I can see Kimberly checking out

one of the kids who has gone to our school since like

kindergarten like us, named Aiden Smith, hmm her and I will be

talking later.

Author's Note
