Chapter 35

Mia's POV

I awoke with a throbbing pain in my head and with my body feeling like it was on fire. Who knew that the Underworld could be so hot? I let out a groan and slowly opened my eyes. I blinked a few times to adjust to the light and then looked around.

I was in some sort of cave that had different colored rivers flowing through it. There was a solid piece of land right in the center and I along with some other weird crap was on top of it. My eyes landed on Hook who was bloody and unconscious and then on Hades who was facing the other way. I tried to get up only to find that my hands were handcuffed to some sort of pillar. I yanked on the handcuffs multiple times before a voice finally said, "Don't mess with the handcuffs. You're not going to accomplish anything by doing so."

"Well my parents always told me not to tell people to 'shut up,' but guess what I'm doing right now? I'm telling you to shut up and let me out of these handcuffs!" I exclaimed as I yanked on the handcuffs again just to annoy him. Hades chuckled and turned to face me. "So feisty for a little girl like yourself. You'll soon come to realize that talking to me in any disrespectful way will not end up good for you," Hades told me.

I narrowed my eyes and asked, "Was that a threat?" Hades shrugged, "Maybe. Now, I know what you're thinking." "What? How I want to kick you in the face and knee you where the sun don't shine?" I asked innocently as I batted my eyelashes.

Hades frowned and said, "No. You're probably wondering-" "Why the sky is blue? Yeah, you're right. I have always wondered that," I interrupted. "No. I-" Hades started. "No. I-" I interrupted. "Can you stop copying me?" Hades asked. "Can you stop copying me?" I repeated.

"Stop."

"Stop."

"That's not funny."

"That's not funny."

"I'm being serious, Mia. Stop that."

"I'm being serious, Mia. Stop that."

"Gosh, you are so childish," Hades muttered. "I'm not childish. I just like annoying the crap out of people and by people I mean you," I told him even though I knew for a fact that I was being childish. Hades rolled his eyes and flicked his hand up. My mouth was immediately shut and I wasn't able to say anything. I tried to say something, but I couldn't. I glared at Hades as he asked, "What was that? I couldn't hear what you said."

He let out a loud laugh and I rolled my eyes. "Anyways, you are probably wondering why I brought you down here," He started. Hades then glanced up at me waiting for an answer and I let out an angered noise before nodding my head.

Hades smiled and said, "Well, to answer the question that you are dying to know the answer to, I wanted you for one thing and one thing only. Your dark magic." I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and tried to talk, but then remembered that I couldn't talk at all.

Hades sighed and flicked his hand up, the spell that was on me immediately fading away. I opened my mouth and muttered sarcastically, "Thanks for that." Hades just smiled and I rolled my eyes. I stared at Hades for a second before asking, "Why do you want my dark magic?"

Hades laughed and replied, "I don't think you understand, Mia. You are a Dark One. You have the Dark One magic coursing through your veins right now." "But why do you need my magic?" I asked. "You are a rare case, Mia. You have the dark magic, but the thing that doesn't make sense is that you are dead. So if you are dead, then how do you have the Dark Magic?" Hades asked rhetorically.

He walked around the room before looking back at me, "Your dark magic is more powerful than any dark magic I have ever seen. It will come in handy for what I have planned." "What do you have planned?" I asked. Hades chuckled, "That's not how this works, Mia. You see, you are going to play by my rules, got it? Or else, your dear little friend over here, gets thrown into the River of Lost Souls. And your friends, your boyfriend, and your brother get trapped down here forever."

I laughed before saying, "Henry, Matt and everyone else aren't down here. They wouldn't be stupid enough to-" I was cut off by Hades waving his hand. A mirror appeared in the middle of the room and showed the image of everyone that I care about walking into the Underworld. I wanted to laugh in Hades face again and say that he was trying to trick me, but as soon as I saw Henry and Matt I knew that this wasn't a trick.

I sighed and whispered to myself, "I take that back. Maybe they are not the brightest sometimes." I then looked up at Hades and exclaimed, "If you hurt them, I will kill you." In an instant, the mirror had vanished once again and Hades was smiling at me.

"So do we have a deal?"

Henry's POV

A little bit later, we all arrived at the Graveyard. I noticed my Mom staring at Hook's ring before looking up at all of the graves. I then felt something grab ahold of my hand and turned to see Matt grabbing ahold of my hand. His face was serious as his eyes scanned the graves and I couldn't help but feel bad for him.

"All right. Let's do this," Matt told everyone. We all nodded in agreement and went looking for Mia and Hook's graves. It took a while, hit we eventually found them right next to each other. Matt and I paused in front of Mia's grave before a hand came down on my shoulder.

"You okay?" Grandma asked. "I just hope she is," I replied. Grandma smiled sadly at me and payed my shoulder again before walking back to stand next to her husband. Matt stepped forward and poured half of the potion on Mia's grave and half of the potion on Hook's grave.

After a few minutes, two images appeared in front of us, but both images kept flashing. Matt gasped slightly at the sight of his sister who was wearing a bloody shirt and had a look of fear on her face. My mom on the other hand was staring at an image of Hook who looked battered, bruised, bloody and burnt.

I quickly looked away from Hook and back over at Mia. "Mia. Mia, it's me, Matt," Matt said as he talked to the image of Mia. I stepped forward to stand next to him and said, "We're here to help you, Mia. We just can't find you. Where are you?"

"Henry....Matt...the spell's not steady. She can't hear you," my other mom told me before saying the exact same thing to Emma. Suddenly, the images started to disappear and Matt stared to freak out. "Mia! Please, tell us where you are! Mia! Talk to me. Talk to me," Matt pleaded. Mia suddenly disappeared back into the ground and we all knew the potion had not worked successfully.

Matt fell to his knees and started crying in front of Mia's grave, tears of my own filling my eyes as well. I fell down next to Matt as we both cried over Mia's grave. Why didn't the potion work? Why couldn't Mia hear us?

Mia, where are you?

---

Later that day, Matt and I were walking with my mom to the clock tower where Emma, Grandma, Grandpa, Robin and Mr. Gold were. It had been a pretty eventful day in the Underworld. After we had gone to the raves, Matt and I had gone with Mom to stop her mother from punishing her father to a fate worse than death. In the end, Cora had disappeared and Mom's father had ascended to heaven. Matt, Mom and I had then figured out that if people solved their unfinished business then they could leave the Underworld, so we were on our way to tell everyone what we had discovered.

As soon as we reached at the fallen clock tower, Grandma said, "Tell me your father's okay." "He's better than okay," Mom answered. "He's in a better place now," I explained. "Wait. That means everyone here..." Grandma trailed off. "Can be saved," Grandpa finished.

Mom nodded and told them, "Every soul in this town has unfinished business. And chances are, for a lot of them, we're that business." Mr Gold sighed and said, "You've all deluded yourself if you think these people are worth your time. They're not the dearly departed. They are dead, wretched souls, and I want no part of it."

Emma, Matt and I all glared at Mr. Gold. "What you want doesn't matter," Matt spat. "I wasn't bluffing... I'm happy to tell Belle about your return to Dark One-ness," Emma told him. Mr. Gold frowned and said, "Our agreement was to find your pirate and author and get the hell out of here. If you want to distract yourself with this other asinine pursuit, be my guest. I'm out."

He then walked away, leaving us all behind. I glared at Mr. Gold before shaking my head and turning to my family. If we were going to save Mia, Hook and the people in this town we were going to need an operation name.

"So... who's ready for "Operation Firebird"?"

"Is that what we're calling it?" Mom asked with a laugh. "You referring to the mythological bird or the muscle car?" Emma asked as she wrapped an arm around my shoulder leading us away. But as we stared to walk away, we all noticed something happen. We all froze as the minute hand on the clock tower moved. I smiled at Emma and then at Matt.

Maybe this wouldn't be so hard after all.
