November 2nd

Mrs. Davis addressed the group after Riley sat down, "Okay, everyone! We have our Kathy Selden! Let's go back to page number..." she thumbed through the script for a few seconds before the Aha Moment hit her, "Page eleven, please."

Riley looked up after she'd gotten settled between Faith and Savanna and met eyes with Liam. As soon as she did though, he snapped his gaze back down to the book.

"Okay, Riley, your lead, start at the top of page eleven," Mrs. Davis hummed a bit to herself after she began the read-through.

"Okay... Uh. 'Selden. Kathy Selden.'" Riley spoke with an air of confidence and instinctively lifted her chin up with the tone of the line.

"'Enchanted, Miss Selden. Sorry for frightening you, I was getting just a little too much love from my adoring fans.'" Liam's reply as Don came smoothly, as if he was the famed movie-star, in the 1920s. He was a football player, and he was in the school's band. This was his second year of play. Riley wondered how he had even gotten as talented as he was.

"... ley? Riley? Hey, Riley," she heard the chorus of her name being called and snapped out of her curiosities as she realized that she had zoned out staring at him.

"Oh! Uh, sorry. 'I knew I'd seen you.',"

They finished the scene and got to the first 'Kathy Song'. She hummed along to it and tried to sing what she could. They didn't have a music rehearsal until Thursday, so at the time it was just memorizing the lines. The rest of the rehearsal went by smoothly and when it came time to leave, Riley rushed out of the school, not wanting Faith or Savanna to ask about her daydreaming slip-up.

"Bye guys, I'll see you tomorrow!" Riley smiled slightly and walked out the door to meet her dad at the back.

The next week or two of rehearsals went the same way; she had a basketball practice and missed the first half hour, or she had a game and missed the last hour. But it was okay that she missed the last hour of a game one night, because she met a boy who inadvertently changed her life. His name was Boston Bashaw.

Boston was a senior; he was the same age as Liam and Kayla. Boston wasn't the best looking person, but Riley thought he was hilarious. He also showed interest in her, which was more than she could say about a lot of people. Riley wasn't well liked, she had been sexualized pretty consistently, so to her, if a guy showed interest in more than her body, it was absolutely astonishing. Little did she know, it would happen again.

Anyways, back to Boston. He was working the concession stand for her basketball game, and she went to buy her traditional Mountain Dew and nachos after her game. Boston initiated it. Riley was turned around and he spoke up before she could start walking away.

"Hey, how did your game go?" He asked her. She connected in that moment that that was probably the first time he'd ever spoken to her aside from her concessions order.

Riley stopped and spun around to face him, "Oh, it went well. We lost, but we played like an actual team tonight, which was nice."

"Oh, cool. Well I'm sorry you guys lost." Boston looked past Riley and saw a few people walking up to the counter for their snacks. Riley caught on too and waved a little bit at him as she walked away. She didn't miss the quiet sentence from Boston though.

"I'll talk to you later, Riley."

And he did.
