Chapter 34
I know, I know. It's been around a month since I've updated any of my stories and y'all are probably mentally throwing me off the Cliff for that matter. Fortunately my dear readers, today I bring you a new update and a promise that I will not stop writing this story until it is over! So enjoy!
Also, I've finally seen Hamilton on da big stage!
Two weeks of wandering around.
Two weeks with little or no food to eat.
Two weeks without Y/n.
I've counted each and every day since we set out to find her. Every day that I've felt lost i this world, with no purpose in life. But Herc and I keep moving forward. I try to keep the worst possible outcome away from my mind, but every night the question comes to haunt me like a ghost. Is she even alive still? There's no way of knowing, which drives me insane. That's why I try to push the thought away, always.
I can't describe how thankful I am to have such a good friend like Mulligan. Even when times are rough, he keeps going on without a doubt or complaint. All he wants to do is find his friend who was stolen by the British. His friend, and my love. We venture on as the minuets tick by like a waking omen, warning me to hurry up.
So I do.
That night, when it gets too dark to see, we set up a temporary camp. "We can't stop now!" I had protested. "If we take a break, who knows what'll happen to her." Hercules just sighed, looking at me with his melancholy eyes. "You know if we could keep going, I would, but it's dark with no moon or stars to guide us and we're both tired. What good will it do for Y/n if we die from exhaustion or wander in the wrong direction?"
I have to admit, he had me there. I tried to think of a good excuse, but he was right. We had to rest.
I grudgingly stomped over to help him with the tent.

When I woke up, and saw not the sun, but an eternity of gray, murky sky, I knew we were in for a bad day. Nevertheless, I woke Mulligan up and we began to pack away our supplies. As I was just filling the last bag, I felt a strong hand on my shoulder and turned to see Herc with a determined expression on his face. "We'll find her soon, John." He reassured me. "I can feel it."
I gave him a grateful smile, something I hadn't done in days, and we continued on our way down the unseen path that could lead us to Y/n.
It seemed that the world was a never ending forest. Only trees in sight, and old leaves scattered on the rocky ground like a carpet. They crunched under our boots, disrupting the normal sound of nature. We would never be able to sneak up on a British camp this way.
Fortunately, as we journeyed on, the trees gave up with trying to block our view, and the crunchy leaves dissipated till there was nothing but dirt under our feet. A clearing came into view. It was filled with tents lined up in neat rows, with the occasional soldier in red trotting by.
We had found the British camp.
We stayed a long distance away from the clearing. I had no idea how to get past them without getting seen. It seemed impossible until Mulligan pulled out two coats, both of which were red. I smiled, knowing what the tailor's apprentice had planned. Maybe we didn't have to be invisible, but we needed to blend in.
I slipped the coat on and it fit perfectly. "Thanks Herc." I said, excited that we were so close to finding Y/n. He nodded in return.
"Well." He said, looking out among the enemy camp. "Let's hope this works."
"Yeah." I mumbled in agreement, then looked up to face my friend. "I'll see you on the other side."
He smiled in return. "This time, we're not stopping till we find her." I couldn't agree more. With those words exchanged between us, we went our separate ways to find Y/n.
