Chapter 33
HAPPY LATE NEWTMAS AND A MERRY NEWT- YEAR... wait. Wrong fandom.
Ehem. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury
I'm curious.
Bear with me, are you aware that WINTER BREAK IS OVER!!!!
I jumped.
My friends and family cheered, but I hadn't jumped towards them. I had chose Y/n, and how couldn't I? She was my everything.
But I was too late. She disintegrated quickly, dissipating into nothing but the light of my imagination before I could reach her.
I woke up with a start. The boat, the crowd, the jump, Y/n. It had all been a dream, just my mind and its silly illusion but I realized it was a sign, or better put, a warning. If I didn't act soon, I would lose her. I quickly made a plan to save her from the British. I would ask Washington to send a small search party, maybe two or three soldiers I could trust, and I would tromp over to those British grounds, and I would find her, I just had to. The General saw Y/n basically as a daughter, so he couldn't refuse, and if he did, I could easily convince him otherwise. Then, I would volunteer for the search. It was simple, but sometimes, simple planning, and more doing is the best way to success.
I got ready in a rush, knowing more than ever what I had to do. I sprinted to General Washington's office, and without knocking, I burst through the door. The General jumped in surprise , scattering his pappers across his desk as his face hardened with anger. When he looked up and saw me standing in the doorway, his expression softened and turned to pure melancholy, which was almost worse than being yelled at.
"Ah, Laurens." He organized some of the papers that littered his workspace, collecting them into one neat pile before opening a drawer in his desk and letting them fall into the abyss of forgotten letters. "What bring you crashing into my office on a dreary day such as this?"
"I'm sorry for bursting in without notice, sir, but I would like to request to send a search party after Y/n." I said quickly without stopping to breath. Washington looked down at his hands fiddling with his fingers, which was odd. The General never hesitated.. well, usually. "Of course you would, and I would too, but we don't have enough soldiers or equipment to do so at the moment."
I was taken aback by what he had said. This was definitely not the answer I was expecting, but I could work with it. "But sir, I thought you would do anything for Y/n!"
He looked up again, ashamed. "I would, but right now it isn't what I would do, it's what I can afford to do. As you can see, without Y/n around, I can't afford to lose any more soldiers. She always knew what to do."
"Sir, and that is why we get her back." I said. "We need her, and she needs us. I volunteer to go. I'm sure my friend Hercules Mulligan would help as well, seeing that he is the only one who isn't busy at the moment."
"I'm still not sure I can allow this to happen, Laurens. We are running out of supplies, soldiers are dying left and right, and we have nothing coming in from Congress. We have literally resorted to eating our horses."
I still pushed him; I wasn't giving up this easily. "Sir, things have only gone downhill after Y/n was captured her, and if we want to win this war, win our country, then we have to get her back. We need her."
General Washington seemed to contemplate my answer, and finally, he nodded. "I suppose you're right." He gave a light smile, indicating I had officially convinced him. "Very well. You may go." Even though he had argued before, I could tell in his eyes that he had wanted things to turn out this way. He wanted to get his daughter-like soldier back. I reached out and shook his hand. "Thank you sir. I will find her no matter the cost."
With that, I set off... with Herc of course. He had immediately agreed to my plan, eager to go as soon as possible.
We left camp that same day.
