Chapter 29
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! EVERYONE READ THE A/N!
Hey guys! I have found time in the chaotic month of school starting! I'm SO VERY SORRY! School is stressful.
So, for my important announcement! As some of you might be able to tell, I'm running out of art to put at the beginnings of chapters. If you're a good artist, it would be amazing if you could draw something for this book. I will give you a shoutout, and follow you if I haven't already. You don't have to, but it would be nice. :)
You were currently walking over to the Schuyler's mansion. The weather was mild, not to hot, the result of it being a little bit overcast. Plus it was still winter.
You knocked on the giant doors, and they were immediately opened, Angelica there to greet you. "Hey Angie!" You said, as she smiled at your familiar face. "Y/n! What a surprise!" She joked. She pulled you into the house. "Also did you hear the news about Eliza?" When you didn't answer, she rolled her eyes. "Of corse you didn't. You were probably off somewhere with John." You felt your face burning red.
"Okay Angelica. Get to the point."
"Eliza is courting someone!" She squealed, though you could see sadness in her eyes. "And that someone," Angie continued, "is your brother!" Your jaw dropped. "No way!" You gapped.
"Wait! There's more!" Angie bounced on her toes like a little girl. "They're getting married soon!" You were completely speechless for a moment. "Well I always knew Alex was reliable with the ladies, but I mean I didn't know he was that good." You finally said, earning a laugh from Angelica.
"Eliza's probably upstairs writing him more letters." She gestured towards the hallway on the second floor. You nodded in knowingly. "Where's Peggy?" You finally asked, scanning the perimeter of the house. The mansion was way to silent without her. "Probably out with Mulligan." Angie said.
You nodded, laughing slightly. "Oh yes, I should've figured."
Angelica waved her hand towards Eliza's room. "Come on!" She said, "She's written enough letters lately."
You hung out with the two sisters for the rest of the day, walking downtown, looking at random shops, telling jokes to each other as you went. The early morning soon turned to afternoon, and you decided that you wanted to spend time with Laurens.
You said your goodbyes, and quickly set off for home. The sun danced behind the clouds, casting various rays of pure sunlight in all directions. You reached the familiar neighborhood, soon arriving at John's place. You knocked softly on the door, and heard footsteps on the other side.
Laurens greeted you with a warm smile. "Y/n!" You gave him a quick hug, then entered the house. "Did you know that Alex and Eliza are getting married?" You asked. John's face was priceless. He stared at you in shock.
"Well I guess Eliza got her wish!" He smiled. "Wow. That's really all you have to say about this?" You teased. "Well I'm sorry that I'm not like your brother, always knowing the right words and such." He laughed. "Well, when's the wedding?" He continued. You paused, racking your brain for a specific date. You came up with none. "Huh. I guess I wasn't told when it was exactly, but knowing the two of them, I wouldn't be surprised if it was tomorrow." Laurens nodded in agreement.
"You wanna do something tonight? Just the two of us?" Laurens asked. "That sounds great!" You smiled happily. "I mean there's literally nothing going on these days with the paused war and stuff. People are too paranoid of an attack, they won't even go to the park to watch the sun set!"
"Well then, we'll do it for them!" John took your hand, leading you out the door and to the park. Not much time had passed since you left the Schuyler mansion, but just enough time so you had time to find a perfect place to watch the sun lower to the horizon.
You walked past the forest part of the park and into a field of flowers. One certain flower bloomed above the rest. It was a dark hue of purple, about the size of your palm. The delicate petals displayed the shape of a star. You examined the plant some more. "I've never seen anything like this before!" You said. Laurens looked over your shoulder, his eyes widening at its beauty. There was something special about this flower. You could tell. It radiated almost a sort of power, but you couldn't be sure. You decided to dig it carefully out of the ground before you left, and plant in back home where you could examine it some more.
You sat in the grass, leaning on John's shoulder as the sky exploded into a multicolored phenomena. It was as if a painter had accidentally knocked over his paints, the colors spilled into the sky. You glanced over at the mysterious flower, only to find it slightly glow. You shook you head, trying to clear that ridiculous, imagined image from your head, but it stayed that way. You leaned out to touch it, but when your finger made contact with the petal, an image of the future flashed through your head.
