You smiled, immediately hugging him. "Of course! I would love to go with you!" A bright smile lit up his face as he hugged you back. You stood like that for a while, until you saw the colors slowly fading to black and grey. The sun had set, leaving the world colorless, but the sky full of light.
You walked, hand and hand, marveling up at the night sky. Laurens had clearly memorized the walk from the park to his house, so you just followed his lead. Sure enough, the two of you arrived at home, and were immediately enveloped in warmth as you entered. You took a deep breath in, as you fell on the couch. John soon sat next to you. Two envelopes in his hand.
"There's one for both of us." He said quietly, handing you one of the fancy papers. "They're from the general."
Your eyes widened, and you opened the envelope quickly.
Dear Y/n L/n,
Our spies got word that the British will launch an attack at Monmouth in the near future. We need you back next week if we are going to be prepared for this next couple months, maybe years, until one side surrenders. There are carriages coming to pick you up in four days.
Sincerely,
George Washington
You sighed, folding the paper, and putting it back in the envelope. John was silent, frozen with his letter still in his hands. You nudged him gently. "You okay?"
He shook his head and hugged you. The fire illuminated the room, but also shone in his eyes. You could see them filled with fear. "Are you scared about the war?" You asked quietly. "Yes." He replied, sadness in his tone. "I'm scared to lose you."
You cuddled close to him on the couch, resting you head on his shoulder as he hugged you tighter, but still gently, quietly stroking your hair. You wished this moment could last forever. Your eyes slowly shut, tiredness taking over. Before you fell asleep entirely, you thought you felt someone kiss your cheek.

You woke up to sun shining in your face, and birds chirping loudly. You gave a big yawn, and stretched your arms. The first thing you notice was that you were in your bed in the guest room, not in the couch. The second thing you noticed was a note on the bedside table. You picked it up tiredly.
Good morning Y/n! I left early to head over to Herc's tailor shop to get ready for tonight. I'll see you then!
Love,
Laurens
You laughed at how he used his nickname instead of his real name.
'Wait, he said tonight. What was tonight?' You thought. Then it hit you like a rock. The winters ball! It was tonight! You quickly threw on a casual dress, and sprinted out the door. You didn't stop running until you got to the Schuyler mansion.
"Peggy! Angie! Eliza!" You panted, throwing the door open. The sisters came rushing down the stairs. "Y/n! What's wrong?!" Eliza asked worriedly as they raced to my side. "Winters.... need dress... help.." I gasped. Angie looked at me oddly. "English please." She teased. "No need to worry!" Peggy chimed in. "I can speak breathless, nervousness cuz she got asked to the winters ball."
You had finally caught your breath. "Wait! How did you know I got asked? That's not what I was saying." You stared at Peggy, and she shrugged. "I just figured that he built up the nerve to ask you by now."
You shook your head. "You're unbelievable, Peggy."
"So. What were you gonna tell us?" Angelica asked. "Well, since the winters ball is tonight, I need help getting ready." You confessed. Eliza wildly gestured with her hands. "Well say no more, because you came to the right girls! First can we have lunch though. It's almost noon, and I'm starving!" You nodded. You were hungry too because you hadn't thought about breakfast before you ran out the door.
Eliza quickly whipped up something, and you ate eagerly. Angelica laughed. "Looks like someone likes your food, Eliza!" She exclaimed.
After lunch, you and the sisters chatted some about life. You told them about going back to war. Then, you went over to pick up the dress from Hercules's tailor shop. "Oh! I forgot the boys are gonna be there," You said, eying Eliza and Peggy, "so you two, try not to freak out." Peggy rolled her eyes, and Eliza blushed. Angelica on the other hand, thought that was hilarious. She gave you a high five.
The four of you decided to enter the shop in the cheesiest way possible, so you hatched a plan. You ran up to the door, kicking it open and jumping into the room. You all landed, posing in different ways. The guys were there, just sorta staring at you. Their faces looked hilarious with their jaws hanging open. You and the sisters doubled over in laughter.
"You should've seen the look on your faces." You laughed, clutching your stomach. "Um, are you guys, how you say, mentally okay?" Lafayette asked. "No. I don't think so." Angelica replied with suck a straight face, that it only made you laugh harder. You had laughed so hard that you fell over onto the floor.
"Okay Y/n." Alex said. "You don't know who's walked there."
"I'm sorry, I can't help it." You said, wiping tears from your eyes as John helped you up. "You guys here for the dresses?" Mulligan asked. "You know it!" Peggy replied. He led you over to his desk, pulling out two bags, and handing one to you, and the other to Peggy. "So, are you guys going with anyone yet?" Herc asked. "You can probably guess the answer for me." You replied. Mulligan smirked. "I think I can too." He nodded towards the Schuylers. "What about you?"
"Nope." They all said. "Oh, well then, Peggy, would you like to go with me?" He asked shyly. Peggy jumped up. "Yes! I would love to!" She squealed. "I guess it's time we head out to get ready." Eliza said, gesturing towards the door.
"Okay then. I'll let you guys go." He waved his hand. You went over to say quick goodbyes to the three other men, the followed the sisters out the door.
