Chapter 19

Hi peoples! I just wanted y'all to know that I really appreciate every single one of you who read any part of my story. It means a lot to me. I just felt like I should tell you guys. I've been getting so many great comments, thank you guys so much for that and the 1.3K!

It had been a long time since you had almost been crushed by a building. Alex did, in fact, become Washington's right hand man. Hercules Mulligan was a tailor spying on the British government. Lafayette had his own group of men to lead. You and John Laurens were under the command of Nathaniel Green.

It was a busy and horrible time. There was never enough clothing, despite the couple pairs of Revolutionary outfits Herc had made just for you, never enough food, or water. Yes, the weeks  that went by weren't the best, but you had plenty of time to go and meet the Schuyler sisters, becoming better friends with them every day. You also had time to spend with your revolutionary friends who you now called family. Of course, Hercules was all the way across the sea, but you received frequent letters from him.

The hours turned into days, the days turned into weeks, but out of everything, the 7th week at war was the worst. Here's what happened:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You woke up early to the sound of shouts and gunshots. Your brother, who was the only other one in your tent, was already up. "A-Alex? Wha-" You were cut off by more gunshots.
"Notimetoexplainjustgetyourgun!" He said quickly, running out of the room. You grabbed your gun, and already being dressed, ran outside. Immediately, an intense wave of heat washed over you, blurring your vision. You squinted to make it dissipate, then hurled yourself into the battle.
"What's the plan, sir?" You asked your commander when you got by his side. "We're attacking from the center today." He said. You saluted him and got in position. You loaded your gun with ammunition, fired, then dropped to one knee so the soldiers in the line behind you could do the same.
Thousands of soldiers died in the autumn heat. It was very unusual, late fall had always been cool, but not this year. You heard commands behind you to fight up close with bayonets. You and your group charged straight into the sea of redcoats. You somehow managed to cut through with only a slight graze from a bullet.
"Retreat!" You heard a faint voice call, only this time it wasn't a patriot soldier, it was a redcoat. Finally! A win for America! Soldiers started to tend to their wounded and count their dead, so you decided to find your friends.
Alex waved at you from a distance, and you happily smiled back. He walked towards you and touched the bloody cut on your cheek where the bullet had grazed. "You might wanna get that cleaned." He said. "Does it hurt?"
"Yeah, it stings. Bad, but it's not gonna kill me." You replied.
"Not gonna kill you if you get that cleaned."
You rolled your eyes. "Don't worry, Alex, I'll get it cleaned, but first, hep me find Lafayette and Laurens." Once you started calling John, Laurens, the name kinda just stuck. You weren't really doing it to be funny anymore, you were just used to it.
You and Alex walked around, calling for your friends. You were starting to get worried. Alex finally called out that he had found Lafayette, and the three of you went searching for John.
"Um, you guys. You need to come here! Quick!" Lafayette said. You ran over to him and gasped. Lafayette was kneeling next to John, who was breathing heavily, his eyes shut tight. You fell to your knees, Alex doing the same. "Guys," Alex said quietly, "I think he's having a heat stroke." Your eyes widened. You knew, for your father had told you, that strokes were the fifth most common cause of death.
You gently grabbed his hand as tears filled your eyes. Lafayette and Alexander ran to find a doctor, but you stayed. You cupped his cheek with your free hand. "Stay alive." You whispered.
