I looked up at mother, frowning. "Mama, do I have to?" I whispered, shaking in fear. She sighed and knelt down. She twirled a strand of my hair around her finger and tucked it behind my ear. "Hun, you have to go to school. You'll learn great stuff and make new friends." She said, eyes filled with regret. "Now get out there my little chick and make mom and dad proud." She cracked a smile then stood up and left. I felt like I was dying inside as I watched through the window to see my mom driving away. I turned around to see my new teacher staring at me concerned. "Welcome to second grade. My name is Ms. Johnson." She said, smiling. "N- nice to m- meet you." I mumbled. She smiled wider. "Come over to the rug Chica." She said, turning and walking away. I moved my long blonde hair out of my face and fixed the ruffles of my yellow dress. I was wearing my comfy orange boots. I wasn't sure if I could tackle another year of school. I was always shy and really fidgety. I scooted along the carpet and sat next to a girl. She had long brown hair and wore a purple shirt with a white bunny on it and comfy looking jeans. She looked at me shyly and smiled. I didn't know yet that she would become my best friend. Bonnie.
