Chapter 9: Remembering

Nat P.O.V.

                       A week.

That is how long Nadia has been in her coma. After collapsing on the jet I immediately made the pilot turn us back to the helicarrier. Clint radioed ahead to Fury so he could get a med crew in the hangar. As soon as we landed I picked Nadia up and carried her over to the medics. I watched them as they wheeled her to the med bay.

My thoughts were disturbed by Clint.  "Coffee?" He asked offering me one of the mugs he had been carrying. I took the mug, and took a long sip of the bitter liquid. "Thanks." I muttered, cradling the cup in my hands. He placed a hand on my shoulder and spoke, "Hey, relax. It won't end up like it did with her."

My chest tightened at the mention of her.

"C'mon Momma! Uncle Nick said not to be late or we'll miss it!"  "I'm coming Sweetie!" I called after my daughter. "There you guys are!" Clint called as he ran over to us. "Papa!" Tris called as she ran to her father. Clint picked her up with ease as she jumped into his arms. "Alright you two, let's go before Fury gets Furious Clint joked. Tris laughed. I rolled my eyes at their childish behavior but followed them none the less. Moments later we arrived at the S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ.  "There you are!" Agent Hill cried as we finally arrived on the roof. "Sorry we're late, Papa took forever." Tris said pointing to Clint who was carrying the 5 year old. He placed his hand over his heart in mock hurt. "Well I guess you don't want your early Birthday present then." Clint said matter of factly. Tris pouted and started doing what we call her 'puppy face'. "Oh no! You are not pulling that one on me!" Clint said. I had to laugh. Although Clint was a highly trained assassin he couldn't resist his daughter's 'puppy dog face'. Tris turned up the heat though when she started saying, "Pretty please with syrup and cherries on top?" She said putting her little hands together. Clint sighed and set the girl down on one of the many benches agents had set up for the celebration and knelt down to the girls level. "Fine. But, only if you promise to be a good girl and come shoot targets with me tomorrow." He said seriously. "Hey!" I said, " She is going to go shooting with me!" I fake pouted. " Don't worry Mama, we can take turns." I laughed at my daughter's adorable negotiating skills.

But before I could answer there was an explosion. "MAMA!!" Was the last thing I heard before I blacked out.

And it was the last time I heard my daughter's sweet voice before she was taken from me.

I felt a tear roll down my cheek as I remembered the last time I had seen my little girl. I remember how I had woken up in a pile of rubble. The explosion had come from inside one of the other floors causing the roof to collapse. I had immediately called out for my daughter. Later I had found out that someone had smuggled a bomb into the building, and they had taken my Sweet Tris.

I felt Clint wipe away my tear. "Sorry I shouldn't have brought it up." He said guiltily staring at the floor. I shook my head. "No. I needed to be reminded, I need to remember why I'm fighting. To avenge our daughter, to avenge Tris, and now, we have to avenge Nadia." I said balling my fists. I looked through the window  at the sleeping form of Nadia. I couldn't imagine the horrid nightmare she must be reliving right now.

Nadia P.O.V. (Right after she fainted)

I was in an expanse of darkness, yet somehow I could see myself. Suddenly I was in a hallway. I stared stunned at the images that played out before me.

"Addy! (Pronounced 'Auddy') everybody's waiting on us!" A woman called up the stairs. That's Mom. I thought immediately. "Coming Mommy!" A little girl yelled running down the stairs to the arms of the awaiting woman. The woman wore worn jeans and a green and blue plaid shirt, her raven hair was in a ponytail. The girl wore a purple fairy princess costume with her hair curled and pinned back to one side. "You and that costume." Mom laughed. "I like it!" The child pouted. "Besides Daddy got it for me, he said I was his little princess too." Mom visibly tensed after what I said. "Speaking of Daddy, when will he be back from his business trip?" I asked innocently. Mom sighed. "I don't know Sweetie, I don't know." She said as she kissed my forehead.

"You ready for your party?" Mom asked the young me. I nodded my head vigorously. Today is my fourth Birthday party. I watched as mom carried the young me outside to where a picnic table was lined with a fairy decorated cloth, balloons hung in random arrays, and streamers were strewn everywhere. Kids ran about screaming. "Look who finally got ready." Said a woman wearing a pink sundress over her pregnant stomach. Her raven hair was held in a tight bun but a few loose strands were noticable. Aunt Irene. "Hi aunty!" The young version of myself cried to the woman. "How's little Louis?" Mom asked her as she set me on the ground. "He's doing good, I can tell he's going to be more fiesty than Elizabeth though, he kicks much harder." She laughed. I walked over to where she sat and leaned towards the basketball shaped stomach of my Aunt's that held my new cousin. I poked the stomach. "Hi, Louis, I'm your cousin Nadia, but you can call me Addy. I'm gonna call you Lou." I said speaking to my unborn relative. The adults laughed at my antics. "Cous Aud!" My other cousin Elizabeth cried as she ran to me. "Hi Lizzy!" I said as I embraced my cousin.  Even though she was turning three in a few months, she already knew how to form complete sentences.

I saw Mom look towards our waist-high picket fence. I looked to where she was staring. My breathe caught in my throat as I watched the events before me.

There in all his glory stood Baron Von Strucker, smirking at my mother. Mom stood and walked over to where that vile man stood. I watched helpless as if watching a horror movie play out. "What are you doing here Baron?" He chuckled evilly. "Oh Kate. Sweet little Kate. You know exactly what I'm here for." He stated. His words soaked with malice. Mom reached for something in her pocket. But before she could pull whatever it was out, two men walked over from where they stood next to the grill. "There a problem over here Sis?" One of the men asked. Baron kept his gaze on Mom as he replied. "None at all just wishing well to my old friends." He said before walking away.

"Who was that Kate?" The other man asked Mom. Mom looked to me from where I sat looking at her. "I'll tell you when little ears aren't around." The first man looked to me and then back to Mom. "Fine, but don't forget. Otherwise we might let our minds wander." He said winking at Mom. "Harold!" Aunt Irene yelled at the first man. "Oh relax Hun, I was only messing with her." Mom walked over to me and picked me up. I noticed she held me a little tighter than she usually did. As if I was about to be taken from her.

After a while a black SUV drove up and a woman with strawberry-blonde hair got out. "Kate." Uncle Harold said nudging my mom. Mom looked over and saw the woman. "Stay here." She said looking at me. I nodded. She got up and walked over to the fence where the woman stood holding a large box. I couldn't hear any of their conversation due to the distance but Mom wasn't reaching for her pocket so that was a good thing. After a few minutes the woman handed Mom the box and left with the other man. "See you guys later!" Uncle Harold called after them. They both turned and waved. "Be careful!" Aunt Irene called. "We will!" The woman yelled back. Mom walked back over to us. "Nadia! It's from your father." Mom said smiling at me. I squealed and ran over. "Is there a card? What does it say?" I asked in a rush. Mom laughed and pulled me onto her lap as she sat down on the grass. "Here we are." She grunted as I settled down. She grabbed the card. I peered over her shoulder to read what the younger version of myself could see. I gasped at the words before me. "My dearest Princess, I'm sorry I couldn't be there today. I hope this present will make up for it though, happy birthday. Love, Daddy." Mom said. I looked up at my Mom's face, noticing the tears running down her face. "What's the matter Mommy?" The naìve version of myself asked.

I looked at the words that were really on the card. 'Dear Nadia, I sincerely apoligize for your father, he forgot yet again this year. I hope you like the present I picked out, it's to go with your costume. Although your father is not there I hope you have a great day.' I couldn't bear to read anymore. Slowly the images faded away. Slowly I felt more images appear.

This might take a while.
