CHAPTER THIRTY SIX

Olivia and Charlie both hurriedly exit the house due to some raised voices and immediately regret it due to the awkwardness about it all. Jacob and Edward were toe to toe looking about two seconds away from pummeling one another. "Hey, hey, hey, hey... Easy guys, easy. Let's take it down a notch. Alright? What's going on?"

Olivia crosses her arms and leans against the home with slight interest as she watches Edward's expression turn slightly smug.

"I kissed Bella. And she broke her hand... Punching my face." Jacob scratches the back of his head nervously.

Charlie's expression turns into a glare and Olivia sputters out a laugh.

"It's not funny, Olivia Swan." Charlie groans as he see's Bella wince in pain.

Olivia beams as she stands behind her father pointing at him and then gesturing a gun toward Jacob. Even Bella and Edward crack a smile. The girl had seemingly been doing better and better everyday. Though she would never admit it, it was due to a certain blonde being back.

"So not funny that you're going to go with your sister to the Cullen's to get her hand checked out. Unless its a bother to Dr. Cullen then-"

"It's no bother." Edward quickly interjects.

"Of course not." Charlie scoffs under his breath.

Olivia gapes. "Why do I need to go? Dad, we were going to watch The Charmed Ones together!"

"We did that yesterday, Liv." Charlie responds.

Olivia groans. "You don't want to spend time with me, old man?"

For a moment Charlie see's her thirteen year old self. Begging him for another piggy back ride and dinner at the diner. "Don't you want to, I don't know, ever leave the house?"

"Do you have to call me out in front of our guests?" She places her hands on her hips.

"Guests indicate they're welcome." Charlie side eyes both boys. "Anyway, go."

He walks back into the house before she can argue and she turns her vision to Edward and Bella, not even realizing that Jacob had managed to sneak away under her fathers watchful eyes due to their bickering.

"You ready to go Swan?" Edward questions.

"Why are you talking to me?" She huffs and stomps to his car.

Olivia stands on the balcony staring out at the trees as Bella gets her hand checked out inside. She wasn't sure how to feel at the Cullen's home. It almost felt like a second home at one point but then they all abandoned her and broke her heart and here she was.

She wasn't sure how to let it all go like her sister. The endless months of crying and pain. Especially after learning of her past they had still left her like she was nothing

No matter how good it felt to be in Jasper, her mates, presence again it felt like a slight betrayal to herself. She still struggled to eat if she were being honest and every time she even tried she was reminded of her lack of control.

They could leave tomorrow and she could do nothing about it.

Everything could change tomorrow and she would have zero control.

The thought itself created a certain itch under her skin causing her to unconsciously scratch at her arms.

She couldn't save her baby.

She could hardly save herself.

She couldn't make Jasper stay here.

She couldn't make Edward stay here.

She couldn't give Paul what he truly wanted.

She couldn't control herself from falling from the cliff.

She couldn't stop her sister from throwing their lives into the Volturi's hands.

She couldn't st-

A hand grabs her wrist, stopping her from unknowingly making herself bleed. Looking up she's surprised to meet Rosalie's eyes. "You're hurting yourself." She softly tells the girl as she releases her.

"I-It's not on purpose." Olivia swears. "It just sometimes.."

"Happens?" Rosalie offers and Olivia nods. "I apologize for ruining your alone time. I needed to leave that room."

Olivia shyly peaks through the windows to see everyone still talking around Bella. "Is everything okay?"

Rosalie scoffs. "Hardly. Your sister thinks being a vampire is glamorous. Some type of dream." Olivia's eyes trail back to the forest and Rosalie's expression becomes curious. "You don't share the same sentiment?"

"I'm not sure." She admits. "I don't think anyone on the planet wishes they survived off of blood but theres pros too. Spending eternity with someone you love is one. On the other hand life is so beautiful because you only have so much time. I'm not sure where I stand on it. I don't think I could ever leave my father behind like that, to believe his daughter died."

"Has Jasper ever told you my story?" Rosalie studies her intently as she shakes her head.

"My life was absolutely perfect." She admits. "I remember. And it was perfect. Till the end..I had, almost had, everything. Even though it was the Great Depression. I was eighteen, everyone in Rochester envied me." She slightly smiles. "There's only one thing I wanted that I didn't have..."

"A baby." Olivia says, the familiar feeling in her stomach returning whenever thoughts of what could have been run through her mind.

"I wanted a child badly. A home of my own, a husband to kiss me when he came home from work. And I thought I was going to have all of that...Royce King was the most eligible bachelor in town. I barely knew him. But I was young. I was in love with the idea of love. On the last night of my life, I left a friend's house late. I wasn't far from home."

Olivia's face falls at the insinuation.

"I didn't see who he was until that night. Who they all were...They left me in the street, thinking I was dead. Believe me, I wanted to be. Carlisle found me, he smelled all the blood... Thought he was helping me."

"I'm sorry, Rosalie." And she really was. Not because she pitied her but because she understood exactly how she felt.

"I got my revenge on them. One at a time. I saved Royce for last, so he'd know I was coming. I was a little theatrical back then. Things got better after I found Emmett. But we'll always be this. Frozen, never moving forward. That's what I miss the most, the possibilities. Sitting on a front porch somewhere, Emmett gray haired by my side, surrounded by our grandchildren, their laughter..." She trails off.

Olivia stays silent for a few minutes before wiping a tear that had fallen from her eye. "Our stories.. They're similar."

Rosalie's eyes snap to her own filled with sympathy. She realizes why the Swan chose not to eat, to allow her health to deteriorate. After something like that all you want is control. She got hers by taking her revenge but this is how Olivia chose to take her control.

"I..." Her hand falls to her stomach. "I was pregnant."

Rosalie's eyes widen.

"He killed my baby." Olivia's bottom lip trembles. "I couldn't save my baby. I know it's a little different but I understand the feeling of having it all one moment and then having it all torn from your fingertips."

Rosalie pulls the girl in for a hug, shocking her. After a moment she pulls away with a serious face. "If you stay with my brother..."

Olivia forces a small smile. "I know."

"I don't envy you Olivia." Rosalie tells her. "But I do admire you.

"I admire you too, Rose."

The back door opens and Jasper scans her form with a small frown. Hating that he was an empath but couldn't take away her pain. Of course he and most of the vampires had heard the conversation between the two, but no one mentioned anything due to Bella being there knowing that Olivia still hadn't confided in her twin sister about what had happened to her. Jasper pulls her into a tight hug, giving his sister a small nod as she takes her leave. "I love you, Darling."

Olivia sniffles. "I love you too, Jazz."

"Let me stay with you tonight." He slightly pleads. He had been giving her the space she needed to forgive him but he couldn't stand to think of her being in her room all alone all night after the conversation she had tonight.

Olivia is silent for a second before she pulls her head away from his chest. "Are we going to pretend like I don't know you're already at my house every night?"

Jasper slightly narrows his eyes at her before pulling her head back against his chest. Olivia's muffled giggle is heard and that brings a smile to his face. She would be okay, he knew it.

"Fine." She sarcastically sighs. "I'll pretend I don't know."

"Olivia Swan." He playfully growls.
