CHAPTER ONE

Olivia Swan disinterestedly looks around the busy airport with her left hand on her suitcase handle waiting for her father alongside a nervous Bella.

When she finally sees a rusty looking police cruiser with an older scruffy man awkwardly standing against it, she slowly makes her way towards it. Bella who naturally follows after her sister scurries along to follow, nearly tripping over her own bags in the process.

"Hey girls." Charlie says, awkwardly scratching the bottom of his grown out grey beard.

"Hey." Bella quietly says, unsure of what to say to her father that she hadn't seen in years. It was nothing against him, they just never had much of a bond. She didn't need to worry about him as much as her mother.

Looking towards Olivia for a response Charlie's face lights up a bit waiting for her to jump into his arms with the enthusiasm she did all the times before.

But when she just silently nods her head in greeting and opens the trunk to put her belongings in with not even a single word, Charlie sighs quietly to himself in disappointment.

Sitting in the back seat of the cruiser Olivia stares out the window looking at all of the dreary greenery in boredom. It was just as she had remembered it but she swore the town looked a little more sad now.

Bella awkwardly sits in the front seat, the tension almost enough to make her want to jump out of the car.

"I see you cut your hair since the last time I've seen you." Charlie gruffly cuts through the silence, his small chin jutting in Bella's direction is the only indication that showed her the comment was meant for her.

"Yeah, I did." Bella mumbles playing with the ends of her hair.

Glancing back at her sister that has no emotion in her eyes whatsoever she silently sighs in sadness. She just wanted her sister back. At least she would fill the silence with Charlie.

She remembers the morning she came home from a "friends" house with bruises all over her body and her face covered in blood. It immediately sent Renee and Bella into a panic rushing towards her asking her what happened.

But they never got a response. Instead she walked straight past the two and went into her room locking the door and taking a 6 hour shower.

Phil and Renee had both tried getting her to open the door. In Bella's opinion they should've broken it open but they were never ones to pry, especially Phil. She used to think that was a good thing.

When she had locked herself away in her room all those months ago Bella could hear her sobs at night. She could hear her throwing things against the wall. She could even hear her screaming from what she assumed were nightmares in the middle of the night.

Until one night it all just stopped.

No more crying, screaming, or smashing things. Just silence.

Days later, she finally came out of her room and she was skinnier than Bella had ever seen her. She never thought it was possible for someone to lose so much wait in the matter of days. Her eyes were sunken in with dark bags lining. Her hair was a mess and she wouldn't look anyone in the eyes.

Their mother attempted to get her into therapy, hoping she would tell them what happened but Olivia told her no and that was the end of that conversation. Their mother was never one that was good with authority so she let it go.

It became their new norm.

She hoped that coming to Forks would be a new start for her sister.

When they finally arrived to their new home Olivia immediately leaves the car, grabs her luggage, and heads towards a room she knew would be waiting for her.

Setting her suitcase on her queen size bed she stop for a moment to look around the room. There were pictures hung up all around the room from her past time here in Forks. Pictures of she and Charlie, pictures of her friends from here in Forks. In all of them Olivia is staring at the camera with a beaming smile.

With no warning, she begins ripping every single one of them down from the walls.

Finding an empty container in her closet she shoves the pictures, a stuffed animal Charlie had gotten her when she was younger, and some unknown letters into the box and places it into the farthest corner of her closet with no plans of ever looking at them again.

Her room now had plain walls, a bed, and an empty desk in it. Her shoulders slightly fall as she feels like she can breathe again.

A loud honk brings her out of her thoughts as she slowly walks down the stairs and into the front yard. She sees a familiar boy with long black hair and an older man in a wheel chair greeting Charlie with an old orange truck she didn't recognize them having the last time she was here.

She automatically recognized the two as Jacob Black and his father Billy Black.

Her once upon a time best friend and a man who was like a second father to her.

Charlie had filled Billy in on Olivia's sudden isolation so he didn't take it personally when she looked at him with numb, dead eyes and didn't even offer a greeting.

Her face displayed absolutely no emotion or reaction. But in her eyes were so much pain and sadness. Billy gives her a sad smile, he didn't know what happened to her but it had to have been bad in order to take the light out of her eyes like that. Olivia looks away almost robotically, not wanting to give him any reaction.

She was still in there fighting for her life, that much he could see. The happy little girl was just downing in sadness and pain that he hoped one day she could be rescued from.

"Bella you remember Billy and Jacob?" Charlie said breaking the tense silence. He knows theres no way Olivia forgot the two in such a short span of time but he wasn't so sure about his youngest.

"We used to throw mud pies at each other." Jacob reminds the girl as his eyes slightly light up at the sight of Bella Swan.

"Yeah, no I remember." Bella smiles slightly as she clearly lies.

"Hey Liv." Jacob tensely says, not knowing how to act, his father had warned him that she wasn't the same according to Charlie but it was a lot different to see it in person.

"Jacob." She nods her head slightly in greeting.

Smacking the top of the rusty orange truck Charlie grins nervously. "So what do you guys think?"

"Of what?" Bella asks confused with a tilt of her head.

"Your homecoming present." He explains, he glances hopefully towards his oldest daughter who only continues to stare at the ground.

"What! Really? No way!" Bella shouts as she excitedly jogs towards the car. Though it looks more like an awkward fast paced walk.

"Just bought it off of ole Billy here." Charlie smiles at his younger daughter, not knowing how to react to her happiness. It's very clear who Bella got her awkward personality from.

"I just fixed the turbo. Here, I can show you how it works." Jacob quickly offers Bella. Opening the drivers side door Bella accidentally smacks Jacobs body with it and embarrassingly apologizes.

Charlie and Billy look over towards Olivia who hadn't even left the front porch as she stares at the ground blankly.

"Liv, why don't you let Jake show you how it works too? So you know what to do when you need to use it." Charlie says hopefully.

Looking at a tree behind Charlie she refuses to make eye contact as she coldly states, "I don't drive." And slowly walks back into the house.

Charlie watches her leave with a sad sigh, unsure of what to do.

"She just needs time, Charlie." Billy tells the man with a somber expression. He had seen how the two used to interact and can only imagine how he feels.

That night Olivia was laying on her side staring at the blank white wall when her door creaks open.

"Liv?" Bella quietly whispers, unsure of whether she was asleep or not.

Without turning around Olivia calmly responds. "Yes, Bella?"

"I know this is stupid, but I'm nervous for school tomorrow." She timidly says.

"You'll be okay Bella. I'll be next to you the whole time." Olivia quietly says. Showing the most emotion she has in a year.

"Thanks. Night, Liv." Bella replies with a small hopeful smile and closes the door.

"Goodnight Bella." She whispers to herself before shutting her eyes and drifting into a long nightmare filled sleep.
