CHAPTER FOURTY ONE

"Are you sure you're okay?" Olivia eyes the blonde standing protectively beside her. She winces as she pushes her thumb into another crevice of the tree. Her mind slightly reels at the thought of getting an infection in a tiny cut on her finger because she's purposely rubbing it all over a tree.

Jasper softly smiles at the worry in her voice. "Just fine, Darlin. But I think you're good to stop now."

Olivia pulls her hand away from the tree and moves her hand to wipe it on her jacket but Jasper grabs her wrist and pulls a cloth from his pocket, gently wiping the excess blood before placing a small bandaid over it. "You came prepared." Olivia muses.

"My little human mate is using her blood to drive an army of newborns crazy, it hasn't left my mind since you so stubbornly decided to do so." He raises a brow at the mischievous expression crossing her face.

"Well, one of us is fighting said army of newborns so I couldn't exactly sit back and do nothing now could I?" She huffs.

"You could have." He mumbles under his breath.

"What was that?" She places both hands on her hips and narrows her eyes at him.

"Nothing." He half smirks.

"Is all of my stuff up the mountain?" Olivia questions.

"You mean the tent, the blow up mattress, the three blankets, extra clothes, and snacks?" He rhetorically questions in amusement.

"How long are you planning on staying up there?" Paul questions, having just joined the pair.

Olivia rolls her eyes. "Us humans are not immune to the cold and I am sure it will get boring up there, thus the snacks. While my sister lays in her tent feeling a rock poking her in the back it will be just like I was in my bed for me."

"Well let's get going, a storm is coming tonight." Paul informs her. She nods and looks to Jasper with a small smile.

"I'll be there as soon as I can." He promises.

"I know." She nods and hops onto Paul's back, waiving at Jasper as he begins jogging away. "How's it going, Paulie?"

"Oh you know, nothing much princess." Paul snorts. "Excited to tear some teeth into those blood suckers."

"Do your teeth ever chip or breaK?" Olivia wonders. "Because vampires are literally made of marble."

He makes an odd face. "You think of the weirdest shit, Princess. None of us have ever lost a tooth, i'll be sure to ask if it every happens."

"Hmm. Weird." She shrugs. "So whats your plan?"

"I will stay with you on the mountain until your lover boy can join and then Seth will be joining you in the morning."

"My fiance." Olivia whispers, closing her eyes as he pauses. A part of her was hoping he wouldn't hear her words but a part of her only said it because she knew she had to break it to him.

"Did you just say fiance?" He sets her down and intently stares at her.

Olivia takes a deep breath and pulls her necklace out from under her shirt, the newest addition to her necklace glimmered in the sunlight. "He proposed. I'm not wearing it because I wanted to be able to tell you before everyone else knew."

Paul stares at the ring in silence. He thought back to their conversation a few days prior, about him letting her go romantically. He should have seen this coming, he just didn't think it would be so soon. "I-uh. Wow."

"I know you might think I am too young. I slightly thought so too but to be fair Jasper has been waiting over a century for me and he is my mate so it's not like I am going to accidentally meet and fall in love with someone else, you know? Unlike a normal human, the worry would be that I am rushing into things and there could be someone else out there for me but there isn't. I am ready to start the rest of my life and that is with him. If you don't support it I completely understand." She huffs attempting to gain her breath back after spewing all of that as quick as possible.

"Are you done?" He questions and she gives him a confused glance in return. "We talked about this the other day, princess. In fact I should have expected it I just didn't think it would be this soon. I told you that if this was what makes you happy than I will support you."

Olivia pulls him into a hug. "Thanks for being you, Paul."

"I try." He jokes.

Paul smirks as he watches the girl clap her hands and grin proudly at her tent. She had spent over an hour getting everything perfectly how she had wanted it while Bella and Edward entered the plain tent with nothing but a sleeping bag.

"Going over board don't you think?" Jacob questions the two.

Olivia doesn't even glance at him, waiving her hand in a 'shoo' motion. "Go sulk somewhere else. I am living in tent luxury."

He rolls his eyes but walks away from the two.

She holds out a bag of chips for Paul who gladly takes them and immediately begins munching. "You would think you've never seen food before."

"You know princess, I might have liked you more when you just didn't talk." He snorts as she shoves his shoulder.

"Darling."

Olivia jumps in fright. "I have told you to stop doing that!"

"My sincerest apologies." He smirks down at her.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah." She groans. Olivia turns to Paul and her face slightly falls. "Do not die tomorrow, okay? That's a direct order from your imprint. If you die, I will bring you back and kill you again."

Paul's face softens knowing she's worried about how the fight will go tomorrow.

"And tell Sam he can't die either. Or Jared. Or Embry. Or Quil. And for good measure tell Emily that too. Even Leah."

"Everything will be okay, Princess." He pulls her into a hug, ignoring the uncomfortable grimace the blonde makes behind them "Watch Seth up here for us will you?"

"You bet." She holds her tiny arm up in a pretend flex. "I'll protect him."

"Just don't let him know you're doing it. He's already upset that he's missing out on the action."

"Be careful." She warns him again as he walks away, he gives her a salute and sprints into the forest to make his way back to the rest of the pack.

Jasper joins her side as she stares into the forest and she leans her head on his shoulder. "You'll look out for each other tomorrow during the fight won't you? I know he's not your favorite person but-"

"I will." He tells her. "For you, I will."

"I don't remember bringing that up." Jasper eyes the portable heater up and down like it was going to burst into flames at any moment.

"It was wrapped in the blankets."Olivia explains as she turns it on and gets herself comfortable in Jasper's arms. "I stole it from the garage, it has an 8 hour battery I am guessing Charlie had it for fishing."

"Isn't he fishing now?" Jasper questions.

Olivia's mouth opens for a moment before she closes it. "I am sure he wouldn't want his oldest daughter freezing to death on top of a mountain. I was just being responsible."

"Mhm." He chuckles. "What about his other daughter? I can hear her teeth chattering from here."

They both pause as they hear the nearby tent unzip and Jacobs voice repeating the same information Jasper had just relayed. "Jacob to the rescue." She beams knowing Jacob was about to grate Edwards nerves even more than usual. "See, aren't you glad you got the brains?" Olivia whispers as she points to herself.

"Shut up, Swan!" Edward calls from the other tent and she giggles.

"You should sleep." Jasper kisses her forehead. "If you don't I am sure you're going to be hearing some uncomfortable conversations here in a minute. Edward and Jacob's emotions are not pleasant right now."

"Say nothing more." Olivia grimaces as she tucks herself more into his side and sighs sleepily.

Jasper admires the woman in his side and smiles. He couldn't believe that after all of his misdeeds and wrong doings he was gifted such an amazing mate. Even after he hurt her she still forgave him and was willing to take him back.

He would do anything to protect her.

Little did he realize that tomorrow was just the start.
