Chapter 13

Artemis snapped open her eyes, and she slid off her ledge. Her eyes were wide in fear and her breath came in short, ragged gasps, and her wings fluttered like they sensed her panic. Not surprisingly, she felt the heat of three pairs of dragon eyes staring at her.

"What the heron." Mudpuddle said.

Artemis scrambled back up her ledge, digging her talons into its surface and ripping a few of the lovely blankets. She winced.

"Bad dream..?" Tempest guessed awkwardly.

I don't even know if it WAS a dream...It felt so real. She thought.

"Why were you talking in your sleep?" Mudpuddle questioned. Artemis' eyes widened. She had been talking in her sleep? What had she said? Did they know about Solar? The necklace? Oh, stars above.

"I was talking in my sleep?" She hopped off the ledge, shaking the now shredded blanket off her talons.

"What did I say?" She demanded, and Mudpuddle raised her talons in a hopeless gesture.

"You were repeating this thing over and over. A part from a scroll you read, maybe?" Tempest said, her violet eyes wide and eerie. "I know I talk gibberish sometimes after learning something new."

Artemis slowly shook her head. "I don't know... How did it go?"

Tempest folded her wings to her side and concentrated, attacking her mind for what Artemis had said. It took her a minute, but she began to speak in a rather soft voice, and Artemis had to strain to hear her.

"A destined dragon with a hard beginning will send the keepers of Pyhrria's fate spinning.
She with silver scales dotted from the moon, shall bid the next ruler to rise, who brings the new.
To succeed with the new there will come the dark.
A seven dragonet quest they must embark.
S-"

"Wait wait." Mamba interrupted. "That's not what I heard. All I heard was nonsense."

"Yeah. Same here. Are you sure it wasn't from your dream, Tempest?" Mudpuddle said carefully, arching a brow.

"Could've been." Tempest merely shrugged." I woke up with it stuck in my head, so who knows."

"Wait." Artemis said. "Tempest, finish what you were going to say."

"But it's worthless information." Mudpuddle complained. "I'm not trying to relearn stuff that I intentionally forgot."

"Trust me." Artemis pleaded.

Tempest shrugged again. "Okay." She sat up straight, clearing her throat. She talked a bit louder.

"Scales as green as glass.
Puddle of mud on the ground below.
Snow that gently falls.
Venomous snake that stalks.
Toxic tail from the sand.
A tribrid who will guide across the lands, and eyes that change with every glance.

The dragonets must survive, or else the Sun will take the tribes.
Travel to the Twins to bring down the Sun.
Discover the truth of the Moon for the battle to be won.
Clashes of claws are fated, to put the war to rest.
Find unlikely heroes who will help in the test.
The great Sun and Moon shall begin an Eclipse.
Warning for a hero, the scales have just tipped."

She smiled uneasily, suddenly a bit bashful. "That's all."

They all stared at her. Mamba had her mouth hanging open. Artemis gently reached over and closed it.

"What?" Tempest asked, and then received no answer. "What?" She asked again.

"Tempest, that sounded like a prophecy." Mudpuddle said.

Tempest tapped her chin. In the lantern-light of their cave, her scales looked more red than black, and maybe, just maybe, she looked more Skywing than anything.

"Really? How could I, out of all dragons. Know a prophecy?" She then added, quieter, and a bit glum. "A bit too fantastical for someone like me."

"You are part Nightwing, right?" Mamba asked.

"Well, yeah."

"So," Mamba gestured to the gold scales near her eyes and threw up her wings. "There!"

"We have to tell the Dragonets about this." Artemis decided. The others nodded their heads in slow agreement.

"But I'm not even sure it's a prophecy!" Tempest said, fluttering her wings.

Mudpuddle poked her shoulder. "Tempest, hush. Right now you're probably the most important dragon in Pyhrria."

Her eyes sparkled. "Really?"

"Yes, really, now let's go!" Mamba shouted as she walked out. She took off out of the room, her scales bright gold and blue with white bolts of lightning. Soon the others were trailing behind her, deeper into Jade Mountain.

~~~~~~~~
"Oh no. This isn't good." Sunny whispered. Tsunami's gills were flaring, and she was pacing angrily across the room. She held a small star-shaped sapphire in the curl of her tail, and seemed to want to smash it on the ground.
"Tsunami, calm down, please." Clay pleaded. Tsunami sat down with a growl, shooting Clay a venomous look. He hopelessly shrugged.
"Not another prophecy." Queen Glory mumbled. She had left Deathbringer in charge, as Sunny was convinced this was real, and very very important, and of course Queen Glory had to be there. Artemis could tell the queen would rather be anywhere but with them, and she felt terrible. She tried to be as polite and non-irritating as she could.
"How do we know this one is even true? What if it's fake, just like the last one?" Tsunami demanded.
"It's what Tempest said, who knows!" Mamba exclaimed. "We just figured it was important, you already know it doesn't match anything we've ever learned!"
"Tempest." Starflight spoke up. "Are you sure this is real?"
"Well...I'm really not sure, like I said, I woke up with it stuck in my head."
"She could be lying." The Seawing princess growled.
"I know Tempest, she'd never lie about something this important."  Mudpuddle said. "She's not like that. Not an attention seeker."
Tsunami's tail lashed. "Hmp."
"Sunny, are you almost done writing it down?" Clay asked.
Sunny hopped up, rolling a fresh scroll up in her talons. "Yeah, here it is." She handed it to Clay.
"Thank you."
Sunny went back to her spot.
"So, if this is a real prophecy. Does anybody know who, and what it could be about?" Glory said, her ruff turning red around the edges. Artemis noticed a small silvery sloth around her neck, and her eyes widened.
Artemis folded her wings down to her side, averting everyone's gaze.
"Artemis..." Mamba said. "Do you know anything?" The Nightwing had been thinking hard about the prophecy since Tempest first told them.
"I have a couple ideas for a few things. Here, let me see the scroll."
She reached out as Clay handed it to her. Artemis unrolled the scroll, studying the words with her brow creased. She sighed.
"As I said, it's just an idea. I think I know who it's about...But scales as green as glass is obviously talking about Seaglass. I have never seen scales that green. Not to mention it mentions glass, not very cryptic considering he's the only dragon here I'm aware of with glass in his name. Now, puddle of mud on the ground below. Puddle, mud, switch it around. Mudpuddle. Easy stuff." She glanced at the Mudwing.
"Next, snow that gently falls, snow, falls, Snowfall. Not the princess, but the one in the opal winglet. I guess he was named after her? Or was born before? I'm sure the circles are rather different in naming their dragonets." Looking around the room, she met many pairs of glowing dragon eyes. "Anyway."
"V-venomous snake that stalks." She stuttered. "Well, Mamba has venom, and she's named after a snake. Toxic tail from the sand. Potent. His name means powerful, or strong, usually when referring to poisons. He's a Sandwing...Tail from the sand? That makes perfect sense. A tribrid who will guide. That's none other than Tempest. She is the one who had the prophecy in the first place. Plus she's the only tribrid here. Last but not least. Eyes that change with every glance. I think...That's about me. My eyes are constantly changing colors of blue, so..." She trailed off, waiting for the others to react.
"Clay." Tsunami said flatly. Artemis turned to the princess, all too much feeling like her verdict was a death sentence.
"Go get the rest of the Opal Winglet- they need to hear this."
