Happy (belated) Birthday Superman!

So... I understand that Jason's birthday is July 1st... but I'm just now getting around to writing this. Sorry!

Jason's POV

"There you are!" I heard someone shout behind me. Piper's voice.

"Here I am? I've been looking for you all morning!" I yelled back with a smile, walking towards her.

"Oh come on," she complained. "Next time just stay put." I laughed.

"I'll try.

She wrapped me in a hug and gave me a quick kiss. "Happy birthday Sparky."

I just stared at her blankly. Today was my birthday? I had completely forgotten.

"Oh my gods. Don't tell me you forgot you're own birthday."

"Uh, actually..."

"You're eighteen now! Like, a legal adult. You can vote and stuff."

"Do demigods vote?"

"Percy and Annabeth do. Because, you know, it's something that American citizens are supposed to do."

"Considering I pay no attention to mortal politics, I don't think I'll be doing much voting for the democracy."

Piper just shrugged. Then without warning, she started pulling me behind her towards the dining pavilion.

"What are we doing?" I asked.

"Surprise," she answered, and that was all she said.

I was staying at Camp Halfblood for most of the summer. Camp Jupiter was doing just fine without me and I was in California last year. And Camp Halfblood was certainly exciting right now. Annabeth was just putting the finishing touches on the first little area of the town that was being built near Halfblood Hill, like New Rome. After her and Percy had gone to college there for a year, she decided that the other side of the country needed a place for demigods to stay. It was going to be really nice.

"So," I asked Piper, "what are they having for breakfast?"

"We aren't going to breakfast," she said with a smirk.

"What? But I'm starv..." The words sort of died in my throat when I saw that no one was sitting at the tables under the pavilion. Well, except for one person.

"Hey Jason. Happy birthday," Annabeth told me and gave me a quick hug.

"Thanks. Where is everyone?"

"Surprise," she said, just like Piper. I groaned dramatically.

"Here, wear this," Piper instructed as she stood on one the benches and turned me around so she could tie a blindfold over my eyes.

"And this," Annabeth added while handing me headphones.

"Alright, a blindfold is one thing. But why headphones? It's not nice to kidnap a guy on his birthday."

"So you have no possible idea where we are taking you," Piper said smugly. I now couldn't see anything.

"But why?"

"Surprise," the two girls said in unison. I sighed and put the headphones on.

Instantly I could only hear an eerie silence with the sound of my heartbeat in the background. Leo must have made the headphones and blindfold, because I couldn't see or hear anything. Like, nothing at all. It was creepy and made me feel a little uncomfortable until I felt Piper and Annabeth each grab one of my hands and start leading me forward.

Just when I thought I still knew where we were going, they spun me around. And around. And around. They also "accidentally" pushed me down a hill. And ran me into a tree. We did all of this for about twenty minutes. Obviously, I couldn't see or hear them but I'm pretty sure they were laughing.

But joke's on them, the uneven ground and tree that acquainted with my face told me I was in the woods. Which part I had no idea, but the woods nonetheless.

After walking around for another five minutes, I sort of zoned out and just let Piper and Annabeth pull me wherever. I didn't even realize we were stopped until Piper took off my headphones.  After being practically deaf, even her quiet voice hurt my ears.

"Okay Sparky, we're here," she said, grabbing my hand again.

"That's great. But I still don't know where 'here' is. And you forgot something." I gestured to my face with my free hand Annabeth had dropped a few seconds previous.

"Just be patient," called Annabeth. She was just beside me, so that kind of surprised me. She was still to my left but a little ways off. Where was she going? Before I could comment on that, I heard giggling. About the same place Annabeth's voice had come from, but it didn't sound like her. Plus, I don't think Annabeth would be caught dead giggling.

"Uh, Pipes, what is going on?"

She didn't say anything, instead she reached up to the back of my head and started undoing the blindfold. I was just starting to mutter "finally" when the black cloth slipped and I felt like I was looking at Hera go all supernova again. I stumbled backwards slightly and Piper put her hand on my back. I was blinking rapidly and trying to adjust to the light when-

"SURPRISE!" a ton of people screamed. I must have jumped about five feet. Everyone started laughing.

When I could finally see again, I noticed we were in Bunker Nine. Pretty much everyone I was friends with or knew was there. All of Camp Halfblood, the Argo ll crew, the Fifth Cohort (old members that I was in the legion with), and Reyna was crowded around me. There was only one person that was missing: Thalia. I tried not to let it bother me, I knew she was busy with all the Hunters stuff.

I realized all the party guests were staring at me as I took in the decorations that were everywhere. A huge banner was draped across the ceiling rafters that said in bold red and blue letters "HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUPERMAN!" There was an actual disco ball hanging over a makeshift dance floor. Streamers were strewn over just about everything. It looked like confetti threw up over the equipment. But the best part was the cake. It was about as tall as me and three times as wide. It was even multiple layers, similar to a wedding cake.

"Wow," I deadpanned. There was a few more chuckles and then people either went back to what they were doing or came up to wish me happy birthday.

"Happy eighteenth, amigo," Leo yelled with a smirk as him and Percy walked towards me.

"You're all grown up, I'm so proud," Percy said while patting my cheek.

"Aren't we such good party planners?" Leo asked me.

"It's really awesome," I agreed. "And who's 'we'?"

"Me and Percy, of course."

"Yeah the two of us did everything."

"And by everything," Piper interrupted, "they mean hung up the decorations that Annabeth, Calypso, and I put together."

"That sounds about right."

Then Hazel, Frank, Nico, Will, Reyna, and Calypso were there and Annabeth had returned. I got a few more hugs and some claps on the back.

"Well, this is certainly more of a celebration than you received in the legion, huh?" Reyna asked me with a straight face, but her eyes were smiling.

"Uh," I tried to answer without sounding rude, "well, yeah, I suppose."

She just grinned and shoved my arm gently. Then she walked away with Nico and Will.

"Alright, who wants some music up in this joint?" Leo said with a clap of his hands and his signature "wiggle." I'd rather not explain.

"Are you going to show me this jukebox thing now?" Hazel asked the group.

"I'd also like to see this," Calypso added.

"Oh yeah, let's go!" Percy exclaimed. "HEY!" he screamed out into the sea of party-ers, "ANY GOOD SONGS?"

Everyone shouted out suggestions but I couldn't understand any of them. Apparently Percy could though, because he pointed over to Connor Stoll and said "Nice!"

My friends started over to where the jukebox must be and I followed, but Piper pulled me back.

"Do you like it? Truly like it?" She rushed with worried eyes. "I know it's not very much, but it was hard to do anything without you knowing and-" but I cut her off with a kiss.

"I love it, Pipes. Thank you. Best birthday ever, honestly."

She smiled and sighed happily. "I tried. I guess anything is good after your sixteenth, right?"

I shuddered and grunted. "Right."

We rushed to catch up with everyone else. I could just hear what Leo and Frank were saying.

"Are you jealous of his voting abilities, Zhang?

"Valdez, I'm Canadian!"

---

"Ready for cake?" Annabeth asked me a little later.

"Absolutely. Who made it?"

"Me," Calypso answered. "It's a new recipe, hope it's good."

Before I could respond, someone jumped on my back. I stumbled forward while said person yelled in my ear. She does that quite a lot, come to think of it.

"Yes! Just in time for the cake!" Thalia cheered. She climbed off my back and gave me a huge hug. I squeezed back tighter. "Happy birthday, little bro."

"You know, I'm technically three years older than you now."

"Whatever." She let go and went over to Annabeth. They also embraced.

"You made it!"

"Duh. Wasn't going to miss this."

Leo took care of the candles while everyone circled around the ginormous cake.

"One, two, three," Piper counted off. "Happy birthday..." and everyone joined her.

It's really awkward when people sing to you like this, especially when pretty much all your friends have terrible voices so it's more screeching than singing. But it was only awkward at first. Pretty soon all I could feel was happiness, happiness towards my friends and amazing girlfriend who was smiling at me the entire time. I think I was smiling wider, though.

Annabeth cut the cake... after Leo tried to smear me in icing and Percy tried to shove my face into it while Thalia took pictures. It was really good cake.

---

It was starting to get dark outside and people were leaving. The party was pretty wild, but awesome. At one point, Frank was a grizzly bear. Leo accused him of being a party animal.

"Sparky, we never danced together," Piper complained as she dragged me out onto the dance floor. I didn't protest.

I didn't recognize the song that was playing, but it was pretty. Piper rested her head on my shoulder and started singing softly. I laid my head on top of hers and swayed with her. Just like I had told her earlier, it was the best birthday ever.
