Lucas' POV

"No reason, no reason at all."

Oh. My. God. She is so pretty. Wait, hold up a sec. Let's take this slowly.

"C'mon, you must have a reason.. Do you think I'm pretty?" Okay there is only two wrong answers to this question. Option a) "no" you look like an idiot. Option b) "yes" which can be fatal to your heart if she doesn't like you... So let's go with...

"Yeah, you're really pretty. What about me?" Okay so hopefully she can see the humour in this..

"Meh, I've seen better by moonlight. But hey, I still don't know how you look in the sunlight. How about we continue this later okay? I gotta go talk to that one." Rose walked over to Meg who quickly enveloped her in a hug.

"Honey, we're going to get you to the hospital okay? We got to go. Lucas! Call the hospital, tell them we're on our way." I handled that and then sat next to Rose on the gutter. We sat in silence for a few minutes before she spoke.

"You don't know what it was like in there. You honestly don't. There- There's no words to describe it." I put my arm around her and pulled her close to me.

"Hey, hey it's going to be okay. Everything's going to be okay. Okay? We're going to keep you safe you hear me? Meg's going to keep you safe, Alex is going to keep you safe and I'm going to keep you safe too. No one's gonna hurt you. No one." I just felt her nod against my chest before I felt my shirt starting to get wet. She was crying.

We heard the ambulance before we saw it. Rose picked her head off my chest and started to slowly get up. I decided now would be a good time to be cheesy and romantic.

"No no no no no no, Rose let me carry you." She seemed unsure of it at first but she eventually mumbled an "Okay." I picked her up and carried her bridal style to the ambulance that just pulled up.

"Of course you'd come." Meg spat. I looked in the ambulance and Alex was there inside the ambulance.

"Babe, please forgive me I'm so-"

"Save it. I don't have time for you right now. We're getting Rose to the hospital because of the mess you got her into."

I immediately looked down at Rose, she was struggling to not keep her eyes open. I guess my question can wait.

"Hey, you two get out of the way. She's not looking so great."

They moved aside and for the first time, I saw her by an actual light. Her hair was a mess, her face was pale and her eyes had dark circles around them. She had a large bruise on the left side of her face and her arms were covered in them. Besides all of that, she was still beautiful. You could just tell that she was. But still it was a shock, seeing someone like this.

"Lucas!" Meg shouted. I pulled my eyes away from Rose to look at Meg. "Did you just hear any of what I just said?"

"No, sorry."

"Fine, I told you to get in the ambulance, Rose just lost consciousness. We have to leave."

I did as I was told and sat in there. Everything was silent except for the beeping of the machine monitoring Rose's heart. I decided to break the ice, "So umm what's going to happen with the two of you?"

Alex turned to meet Meg's gaze but after a second she looked away. "I, I don't really know." She said in a voice that was barely above a whisper. She looked Alex straight in the eye and asked, "What is going to happen between us, I can't pretend you never cheated. You know that right?"

"Of course I know that babe. And I want to be there for you both, but the question is: can you forgive me and move on?" I could tell he loved Meg but seriously, he didn't buy her the wrong chocolates on her birthday. He cheated on her.

"I.. Look I love you Alex, more than anything in this entire world and I don't want to raise our baby alone. But how do I know that you aren't going to do this again? Prove it to me now and I'll say yes. I'll forgive you. But if you can't, we end here." The tears were welling up in her eyes. But before Alex could even get a word out, the paramedic interrupted.

"Uhhh I'm sorry but you all have to get out, Rose needs to get inside."

There was a chorus of "Oh sure"s and "Of course"s but the tension was thick as we watched Rose being wheeled into emergency. Alex is going to have a hard time getting out of this one and I don't want to get in the way.

"Um so I'll leave you two to it. Don't kill each other, please."

With that I ran after Rose being carted off into the hospital.

Alex's POV

As soon as Lucas ran after Rose, Meg shook her head and said, "I guess you can't prove it to me. Don't worry I'll just leave."

As the tears came rolling down her cheeks, she turned away and began to walk towards the hospital. I quickly grabbed her hand, which she pulled out of, then grabbed her by the shoulders and spun her around.

"Meg, I know that what I have done can't be undone. I know that I have taken your trust and stepped all over it and threw it away. I know what I did broke your heart and that every shred of respect you had for me is gone. But I also know this. I love you and you love me. I may not be able to prove it in a few minutes, but I will spend my whole life trying to prove it to you. I stuffed up. I really, truly, desperately know that. And I don't expect you to forgive me now but please, I beg of you. Give me a second chance."

She looked at her feet and replied "If you know me, then you should know that I some cheesy speech wouldn't prove anything."

Then I took a deep breath, grabbed the box out of my pocket, went down on one knee and said, "How about a ring on that finger of yours?"
