17 - A Rescue Mission
Anonymous POV
"If you stopped playing stupid, then we might stop playing our little game. Hm? Does that sound nice love?" I sang.
"Oh shit. She's out cold." I muttered. "Becky! Come here!" The red-head arrived, a pout on her face.
"Yes, boss?"
"Looks like our little hostage can't take it anymore."
"Did you get anything out of her?"
"I ask the questions, but no."
"Do you think she knows anything?"
"Again, I ask the questions."
"Sorry."
"But, of course she knows. She has to know something. She was her best friend, Megan must've told her something."
"And if she-" At that moment a door above creaked open and whispering voices were heard.
"Looks like we have company Becky."

Meg's POV
"Okay, now that we're in here you do as I say. No doing your own thing. Got it?" I whispered to Lucas.
"I got it, now let's go get Rose." He replied, in a voice that was way too loud. Footsteps could be heard within the house. Great, he's awoken the psycho in the house.
I heard heavy footsteps on wooden stairs and the first I saw of her was the flaming red hair, easily visible in the lamplight. Then she started running up the stairs, taking them two at a time.
"Hello hello hello. Looks like we have two more to join our game!" The red-head sang. She actually reminded me of Bellatrix Lestrange. Just a red head version.
"Nah I came in here to kick some bitch's ass to rescue a girl." Lucas' voice came from beside me with confidence.
"Aww how cute. You love her do you? Well come here and I'll show her to you." What happened next I couldn't believe, he actually started to walk towards her.
"Lucas, no. She's going to kill you. Trust me." He kept walking.
"That's a good boy, now walk down those stairs and we'll see little Rosey."
"Okay." he mumbled in reply. Then he walked closer and closer to the stairs.
This can't be happening. What if he gets hurt? I'm responsible for him now and Gemma will kill me if he gets hurt. Where is Gemma? She hasn't called me or anything, what a crap sister.
"Lucas - " I started. He turned to face me.
"No Meg, I can tell that Rose means a lot to you. I'm going and you can't say a word against it. Let me do this. I'm going to die eventually, let me do it honourably." He kept his gaze firm and the red-head was not enjoying her wait.
He wouldn't let me stop him going, I could try and replace him then kill the psychopath but I'm fairly obviously pregnant so that would be a weakness and I don't want to risk a miscarriage. And Rose does mean a lot to me but so does Lucas. It suddenly dawns on me that no matter what I do I can't stop someone dying. It could be Lucas, Rose, Alex or my baby. I have no clue what to do. So I just stood there and eventually nodded.
"Excellent! Well small child, come with me. Pregnant lady - are you actually pregnant or are you just fat?"
"I'm pregnant."
"Ohh okay. Is the father that guy I shot? Yeah he's a real catch, ain't he? You'd have trouble keeping him all to yourself... or has he already broken his promise? Tsk tsk I bet he has. Well ta tah!" And with that she bounded down the stairs taking them a few at a time while pushing - like seriously PUSHING - Lucas in front of her. 3 words, what a freak.
Lucas' POV
While the psycho lady shoved me down the stairs, I concentrated on two things. A, my grand and noble speech and B, not falling. The latter was by far harder to concentrate on. How much did saving Rose actually mean to me? Truth is, it didn't mean anything to me if she lived or died. I don't even know the girl. But it sounded like she had been through so much that she deserved some peace.
"So, little hero? What's your name?"
"I'll tell you if you tell me yours. Your full name."
"Now that is a bargain isn't it? You want to find out my name you'll have to do something more than give me yours. It's not a very fair swap now is it?"
"Fine. My name is Lucas..."
At that point we reached a door. She got out a key, unlocked it and it revealed a chamber about the size of a bathroom. Then she turned and faced me.
"That's a good boy. Now you wait here, not like you can go anywhere." And with that, she was gone.
Great. I'm locked in a bathroom when I'm supposed to be on a rescue mission. I kicked the door but it didn't budge. So instead I started fumbling for a light switch. When I found it, the room was lit up for a split second then I was plunged back into darkness accompanied by a loud pop. I'd blown the bulb.
I then just sank to the floor and held my head in my hands. What type of agent am I? Then I heard muffled voices coming from outside the door.
"We've got another one!" shrieked a recognisable voice, the redhead. I couldn't make out much of what the second voice was saying but one word was clear, Becky. That must be the other one's name.
"He's pretty cute too. And his name's Lucas!" Then something strange happened, there was yelling, screaming and thudding. I heard the door unlock and the key drop, as well as two pairs of footsteps thundering up the stairs.
They were gone.
"Let's go find Rose." I muttered just loud enough for me to hear.
Meg's POV
Two pairs of footsteps were coming up the stairs, they seemed in a hurry. I immediately thought it would have been Lucas and Rose so I approached the staircase. The thundering got louder and suddenly I was pushed back against a wall. As the pair opened the door, moonlight shone on them, and I immediately neither being Rose or Lucas. But I did recognise them.
"Meg!" the voice was quiet and came from downstairs. Rose.
I ran down the stairs and called out to her and Lucas and eventually found them in the basement which was yet another set of stairs down. I don't think this running would be good for the baby.
I was exhausted when I saw the two but Rose definitely looked the worst of us all. Her hair was messy; her eyes were bloodshot and had dark shadows. Her frame was smaller than usual and her cheek bones extremely pronounced. They must have been starving her. I looked past all that and I still saw the scared girl I saw the day I was in hospital, I walked straight up to her and pulled her into a tight hug, and she hugged me back. I pulled away and looked studied Rose's expression. She was relieved to see me evidently.
"I'm still here you know. And I helped." Lucas said.
"Oh right. Rose, this is Lucas, my friend Gemma's brother. He's - how old are you Lucas?"
"I'm 15 in a few months. I'm in grade 10." He said proudly.
"Okay, well Lucas, this is Rose who is one of my subjects, witness protection."
"Cool, how old are you Rose?"
"Umm I'm 14, grade 9. Why are you so interested huh?" It's good that she's got her old sassiness back, I know she probably will never be the same after this but I hope that she is going to be alright. And the way this is going she's going to have a boyfriend soon. Lucas just smirked at her and made eye contact, I finally knew how it felt to be a third wheel.
Lucas, breaking eye contact first, said, "No reason, no reason at all."
