9. Meeting Stella
Alice's POV
As I was in the middle of taking class, Luke nudged me, quietly telling me that it was time. We were in physics, and Mr. Mathews was as boring as ever. He seemed like the type of guy that was half asleep all the time. He wasn't strict, but he was the kind of person that made one extremely bored. No offense to him, of course.
"Uh... sir? We're taking our leave. I think the principal told you about it before.", Luke said, making the attention of everyone drop on him. Including some starry eyed girls.
"Yeah, yeah. And you just had to pick my lesson. Anyway, go ahead.", he said, putting down his coffee and rubbing the side of his head.
He smirked and said, "Don't like physics anyway, so this is amazing. See ya later Mr. Mathews."
The rest of the class snickered. Luke grabbed my hand and walked outside before Mr. Mathews could reply, making me hold back a laugh. Luke had always been quite a rebel. He was respectful most of he time, but the slightest comment against him made his rebellious side appear.
As soon as we got outside the class, I quickly looked back, flashing Reyna a smile. I had told her about Stella, and she said that she would meet her later on. Reyna was definitely not good with seeing her friends hurt. She was insanely protective, and the slightest thing could trigger her. So she had decided to wrap her mind around the new knowledge and then go to meet Stella.
"C'mon. We need to be quick.", Luke said, quietly.
As we walked towards the entrance, I had already started steeling myself. I wasn't completely sure that I was ready to see her. But I wanted to. No matter how hard it was gonna be, I wasn't gonna back down.
The two of us sat in Luke's car. As I looked back, I saw two large bags, filled with items that I couldn't see. However, before I could scan the rest of the car, Luke cleared his throat.
"Let's go", he whispered.
I nodded, moving my head forwards. The items were probably private, and I didn't want to be nosy and ask about things that weren't relevant to me. It was no sooner than I had stopped my immensely fast beating heart that we had reached Havenly Hospital. The big, yellow and white sign greeted us, and as happy and cheerful as it looked, it really didn't seem inviting.
Sighing, I got out of the car, following Luke inside the building. As he talked to the nurse at the reception, I looked around. To be honest, it looked like a day-care. The bright walls and weird paintings that decorated the building seemed a little too loud. But at least they were better than other, depressing red and white hospitals.
Once I had scanned the place, I looked towards Luke. He was signaling me to follow him. As the two of us walked down the corridors and wards, I felt like an eternity was passing. Everything seemed to be happening in slow-motion. I felt like I could catch every single detail of every tiny thing. Maybe it was because I didn't want to do it. Maybe my brain was trying to delay the meeting.
No matter the psychological tricks that my brain played on me, we were soon standing outside the door labelled "209". I saw Stella's name card in the little card holder on the door, and held back an anxious gulp. Luke looked at me and I could see the sadness in his eyes. Like he couldn't bear to see her in the state that she was in. That just made me more nervous.
"Are you ready?", he questioned, seeming hesitant to take me inside.
I held back all the fear and anxiety that was running through me, and said, "Yes."
He took a deep breath in, and opened the door to the room. At first, I saw nothing but the bright blue walls of the room and the end of the bed, but as I walked inside, I could see a figure lying in the hospital bed. The persons face was pale and thin. A bandage covered her forehead, and her arms were neatly placed by her sides. An IV was attached to her wrist, her previously shiny, brown hair a tangled mess.
A shocked gasp escaped me. This was Stella?! But... but she was always so alive. Her beautiful hair was always curled at the ends, and had a seamless shine to it. There was always a rosy color on her cheeks, and her skin was slightly tan from all of the surfing we did together. The person on the bed was nothing like that. She seemed like she was in a sleep full of nightmares. The person who managed to look lively even in her sleep was nothing like the... soulless figure on the bed.
I could feel a tear running down my cheek, and my warm hand covered my mouth. I could feel Luke rubbing circles on my back, but for once, I didn't feel any comfort. I slowly walked closer to her, feeling Luke walking with me. My heart was pounding inside my chest, and I wanted nothing more than seeing Stella jump out of bead, and shouting, "It's just a prank! HAH! I fooled you!"
But she wasn't going to wake up. Not anytime soon anyway. And thinking about it made my heart break into a million pieces. I looked towards Luke, and could see him watching me with worry. Seeing his face reminded me of something. That night, he said that she had been shot, and the impact made her fall off the building.
But who the f*ck shot her?
Didn't update yesterday because I suddenly remembered that I had holiday homework. *insert skull emoji* Anyway, hopefully, this chappie made up for it! Make sure to comment, vote and share! I love you babes! Peace out!
