Chapter 9
Chapter 9
"But you told me it was an opening night?" I said
"I know I did. It is an opening night. But only for the two of us." he said and smiled at me with his incredibly beautiful smile which caused my knees bend a little.
"I thought that maybe with your hectic social life you would welcome something more private." he said and I smiled.
"You have no idea how correct you are." I said as I was actually tired of the social gatherings and all the stares. I never enjoyed the events because every time people wanted to take a picture with me.
"Oh. I'm glad you are not mad at me." he laughed. "Leo told me more about his paintings so I could answer your questions. He hopes you will like it." he said as we were coming to the wall with first paintings. There were abstract paintings of people walking in the park, the city, on the boat. There was a picture of a man sitting behind the table at the office. He was looking busy but his face was sad and in pain. I was starring at the painting a little bit longer because I couldn't figure it out. It was an abstract painting too.
"Is it?" I started but stopped and looked at Nicholas.
"Yes. It is me." he said and he walked to the next wall of paintings without an explanation. The painting was heart breaking. It was so sad. The pain in his face. I didn't ask more and I continued walking around to the next wall behind him. He really knew more about the paintings so when I asked he actually explained them. Leo is incredibly talented and I found at least two paintings I could buy.
We came to the last wall. There were portraits on this one. This time I was looking at the picture of a young man with a huge smile. He was surrounded with purple and white color. I had to smile when I saw his smile. He looked so happy.
"That is Bruno. My brothers boyfriend." I looked at him surprised. "Yes he is gay." He said and was looking at me curious.
"I am not judging. I am just surprised." I said
"Well I was actually a bit judgmental at first." he said sadly.
"But now you are not?" I asked.
"Not anymore. I am really proud of my brother and I am proud of him for being open about his sexuality." He smiled. We continued to the next portrait. It was Sofia. She looked as she was running and laughing. It reminded me so much the time in Africa when we were chaising each other.
"She is so beautiful." I smiled. "He really got her personality in this picture." I said.
"Yes he did." I looked at him as he smiled lovingly on the picture.
"I can tell you adore her." I said.
"She is my world." he replied still smiling.
We went to another picture and I looked at it surprised. It was me with orange and white colors around my face. I was smiling and looking into a distance.
"You didn't told me he painted my portrait." I laughed and I looked at him. He was looking at me seriously.
"It's not you." he said and my smile froze. "It's Laura." I looked at the painting again. It was incredible. That can't be. I was trying to find some differences. I could find only one. Hair. The woman on the picture had longer hair and different haircut. But the eyes, lips, chick bones. Everything was the same as mine. Then the thought of him dating me only because I look like her hit me again.
"I know what you think." he said and I looked at him. "Yes you resemble her very much. But I didn't invited you out because of that." he said as I was trying to compose myself from the surprise. I really didn't expect the resemblance to be so much. But when I think about it there is so much people who look the same. And how about the celebrity doubles.
"May I ask you something ?" I said and looked at him.
"Sure." he replied.
"How did she died?" I said and he looked at the painting sadly. He never mentioned her death.
"She was killed. Right in front of me." he said and I stopped breathing.
"It is a long story and I don't know if it is appropriate on a first date." he looked at me.
"The first date is about to know each other more. This is a part of you. But if you are not ready to talk about it I understand." I said and he breathed out a heavy breath. I understand the things which shouldn't be said at first dates. Like hey I don't remember who I am but you know what I am trying to move on.
"I can just tell you that witness the death of the love of your life and watch the coffin with their body fall into the ground is the worst thing that can ever happen to someone." he said as I watched him in silent. I couldn't imagine such a pain.
"You know what? Let's not ruin our night with sad stories. Would you like to go for a walk?" he asked me and I nodded. I was still thinking about what he said about losing someone. I lost someone and I don't even know who. I lost actually everyone. I am sure my family is somewhere. But I don't remember them. I guess remember to lose someone forever is worse.
We were walking slowly on the streets of LA. Surprisingly there were no paparazzi and even people around were ignoring us. It was so liberating. I haven't felt this carefree for a very long time. We were walking by a stand with hotdogs and bagels and I looked at it.
"I have a feeling you want a hotdog." he said smiling at me and I laughed.
"Your feeling is right." I said and he shook his head.
"Two hotdogs please." he said to the man who was selling them. He gave us our hotdogs and we continued walking.
"Hmm, this is good." I said as I took a bite from mine. He looked at me with his beautiful half smile.
"So here I had planned a fancy dinner in a fancy restaurant to impress you and you are satisfied with street hotdog." he said and I laughed.
"You don't have to impress me with fancy things. Those things doesn't interest me." I replied and he just smiled at me.
"Tell me. Why is the most beautiful woman in Hollywood still single?" he asked me as we were coming into the near park. I raised my eyebrows.
"I am not the most beautiful woman in Hollywood." I replied.
"Correct me if I am wrong. But I think you were named the most beautiful woman by People magazine two years in a row."
"You can't take these magazines seriously."
"But I agree with them." he said and my cheeks went red. "Let's get back to the being single part."
"Well dating in Hollywood is little bit complicated." I said.
"How so?" he asked me as we were sitting down on the bench.
"I am very careful about dating. When you are publicly known person you never know if the other person is going out with you because of you or because of publicity."
"Did that happened to you?"
"Once." I admitted and he frowned.
"Now I understand. And how do you know I didn't invited you out because of publicity." he said
"Well I think if you wanted publicity we would go on a date with paparazzi. But I guess I will find that out tomorrow." I said and he laughed.
"Trust me. I have the same approach for paparazzi as you have. There were times when those stickers were complicating my life too." Of course. He was the richest man in France. Everyone would love to know what he was up to.
It was getting a little bit cold and I shivered.
"Here." he said and took off his suit and put it around my shoulders. "Better?" he asked.
"Thank you." I said and was looking at him carefully. How come I haven't met him earlier. He is so caring.
"Are you always such a gentleman?" I asked him
"Always mi lady." he tried to sound British and I had to laugh because his French accent was so evident.
"I am sorry. I should stick with my accent I guess." he smiled.
"Yes you should. It is really charming." I said.
"Really?" He asked amused. What is wrong with me? Why am I telling him what I think? Why my mouth are quicker than my brain next to him?
"Oh don't be surprised. I am certain you know that women love French accent."
"Good to know you are one of them." he said and he was starring intensely into my eyes. I got lost in his hazel eyes as he was slowly leaning his head to mine. I leaned my head so our lips could meet and I closed my eyes. His lips subtly touched mine as he gently caressed my cheek with his hand. Oh lord he knows how to kiss. His lips felt so sweet and right on mine. He slowly broke our kiss and looked at me. Oh I want more of these. I pressed my lips on his again. I don't even remember how long we were kissing this time but I had to take a breath. I laughed.
"What is it?" he asked me amused.
"It is funny we never met before when I think about how I was staying at your hotels." I said and he laughed too.
"Now I think we should go. It is late." he said and stood up.
We walked to the gallery where we picked up his car and he drove me to my house.
"I had a beautiful evening. Thank you." I said as he was walking me to my doorstep.
"I had a beautiful evening too." he said and came closer to me and kissed me. I so wanted to invite him inside. But it is too soon.
"Good night Angie." he said when he broke our kiss.
"Good night Nicholas." I said and he slowly paced backwards to his car still looking at me.
"Doux rêves" "sweet dreams" he said and got into his car. I was looking into distance as he drove through my gate. I find myself still smiling when I entered my house.
----
"Good morning!" Kylie came to my kitchen the next morning. She has keys from my house of course as I have from hers just in case.
"Morning." I said from the kitchen counter.
"So how was your date. Tell me everything and exaggerate." she said.
"It was incredible." I smiled.
"Yes. Finally someone who interest you. So did he stayed over?" She asked me excitedly.
"No." I said quickly.
"Why not?!" she asked me
"I think it is too soon Kylie." I said
"Oh come on Angie. With a guy like him it is never too soon." she said desperately.
"What did I just heard?" Danny came to the kitchen with Carl in his hands.
"She didn't sleep with him." Kylie said to him.
"Kylie! He really doesn't need to know everything." I told her.
"Oh good. He gained more points from me. The good man always waits until the lady is ready." O god are they really talking about my sex life?
"Ok guys enough." I said and took Carl from him as he was reaching his little hands to me.
"Hi baby. How are you?" I asked him and kissed him on his sweet cheek.
"Good." he said as he laughed.
"Captain America and Spiderman are waiting for you in the living room. Go get them." I told him. Yes I am that kind of aunt who has toys for her nephew in her home. I bought them so Carl has always something new when I babysit.
"Did he called today?" Kylie asked me.
"No. It is too early." I said but I was actually secretly waiting for his call and sheepishly looking at my phone.
"Where were you two yesterday?" Danny asked me when he was looking into a fridge and was searching what to grab. He is always hungry these days. He is working out for a new role.
"In the gallery and then we just took a walk to the park." I replied
"Oh how romantic." Kylie said.
"It was." I smiled.
"I am so happy for you." she said. In that moment my phone rang and I looked at the screen. It was Nicholas and I smiled.
"It's him isn't it?" she said and I nodded.
