Cherry Blossoms
A stage director quickly went out to bring Minji to the wings since she was still standing there shocked. I shook myself out of my confusion and hurriedly went backstage to avoid Minji. I had no intentions of talking to her on the wings of the stage where everyone could see us. Hopefully I would be able to clear my head and talk to her later, or not at all.
I made my way to the waiting room my members and I had been assigned so I could take a nap. Naps always helped me clear my head and focus. As I entered the waiting room I was quickly bombarded by Taehyung, known as V now to all the fans.
"Hyung, I just saw Minji on stage," Taehyung said with a surprised expression on his face.
"Yeah, I know. I saw her too."
"Did you talk to her? Did she recognize you? When did she become a singer? When did she get to Seoul?" Taehyung bombarded me with question after question and I felt my anger levels increasing.
"I don't know! I don't know anything! How could I possibly know she was in Seoul! It's not like we're on friendly terms!" I shouted at Taehyung.
I immediately regretted it because Taehyung looked terrified and took a few steps away from me. He muttered an apology and quickly went over to sit on a couch with Jungkook and Jimin. I let out a long sigh and looked around the waiting room for Seokjin.
I spotted him over by a T.V. showing the ongoing performances eating some strange food. Silently, I walked over and sat down in the chair beside him. We sat there in a comfortable silence for a few minutes while I tried to gather my thoughts.
"Did you see her?" I asked quietly.
Seokjin nodded his head and looked over at me worried.
I took a deep breathe. "Did you know she was Seoul?"
Seokjin looked away from me and back at the screen. I knew what was coming but I closed my eyes and put my head in my hands hoping what came next wouldn't hurt as much as I thought it would.
"I got a letter about three years ago right after debut. It was a few weeks after I had sent her those tickets to our debut concert. She said she was auditioning for a company. She begged me not to tell you but she wanted someone to know because she was excited. That sweet little girl had come to Seoul to watch you Yoongi and you inspired her to find her dream. It just happened to be that she wanted to be a singer." The more Seokjin talked the more it felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest.
"Why a singer? Why did she have to be inspired to be a singer?" I muttered quietly. "The stage is supposed to be mine. The stage is supposed to be where my past doesn't follow me. It's supposed to be the place I can be free! And why didn't you tell me she was here!" Seokjin flinched as I started shouting.
"She told me not to tell you and I couldn't bear the thought of telling you. But Yoongi, isn't the stage lonely?" Seokjin asked in almost a whisper.
"Of course not! I have you guys and all the fans. How could the stage be lonely?" I said confused.
"Because no matter how much the fans love you and no matter how much we love you, the stage is brutal and unforgiving and the love of the fans who can't physically be with you to support you, and the love of us, your members, who face the stage too, isn't enough to help you."
"Hyung, that doesn't make any sense. The sage is where I belong. It's the only place I feel alive. It is anything but lonely." I looked at Seokjin like he was crazy.
Seokjin smiled and looked back at the T.V. broadcasting the show. "Maybe the stage is only lonely for some of us." Seokjin got a far away look in his eyes but quickly came back to reality. "Anyway, you should consider talking to Minji and listening to her reason for being here but make sure you're ready. It will be harder to face than you think."
Seokjin got up from his seat and put his hand on my shoulder for a second before going over to the stylists to get ready for an interview. I let out a big sigh and laid down across a few of the chairs in front of the T.V. to try and think. One band after another got up on stage and performed. I knew some of them and others where people I had never heard of. Most of them didn't stand a chance of being nominated for the award at the end of the show and they were quickly forgotten.
The longer I laid there and watched the show the sleepier I got. Eventually I fell asleep and had the strangest dream.
I was standing in a large forest full of cherry trees. The sun was shining through the branches and casting a warm glow across my face. When I looked up I saw that every cherry tree had beautiful cherry blossoms. It was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen.
Then I heard a branch snap and I looked in the direction the sound had come from. What I saw was a girl walking towards me in a light blue dress that trailed behind her as she walked. As she got closer I could make out that she had long light brown hair that glowed warmly in the sunlight. When she was only a little over a yard away from me I was finally able to make out who she was and I felt my heart start to beat faster.
Standing before me was Minji, and honestly I had never seen her look more beautiful before. She stopped in front of me and smiled at me making my heart speed up even more.
"Minji?" I asked not trusting what I was seeing.
She smiled even more at the sound of her name. "Hi, Yoongi."
Minji reached out and touched the side of my face. I leaned into her touch without thinking. She looked over every detail of my face with a deep sadness in her eyes and silent tears started to roll down her face. Minji opened her mouth to say something but at that moment a wind blew through the forest drowning out her words and sending cherry blossom petals raining down.
Minji smiled at me one last time before walking back in the direction she came from. I started to chase after her but as soon as I took one step I woke up to see Taehyung's worried face above me.
"Hyung. Are you okay? You were crying in your sleep." I sat up and wiped my face surprised to find it wet from tears.
"I'm fine. I just had a strange dream." Taehyung looked at me for a few seconds questioning if he should ask me anything else.
Giving up he just shrugged. "We have to go. They're getting ready to announce the winner for today's show."
I nodded and got up to go backstage and join the rest of the members before we went on stage. Backstage we were told to wait together and listen for instructions. I stood off to the side with the members and waited on the stage directors instructions.
"Okay. I need BTS, TaeTiSeo, and MJ in the front on stage because they are our top three this week. Everyone else be ready to go on stage." The stage director quickly left to deal with another issue and all the bands got ready on the wings to go on stage.
While we were waiting for the signal to go on stage I heard a lot of muttering coming from the other bands. I looked behind me and saw that most people were whispering and staring at someone. I followed their gaze and saw that they were all looking at Minji.
It took me a minute to realize that Minji's name had been called for the top three and that's why everyone was staring at her. She was still a rookie and to be a rookie and get in the top three is almost unheard of. Obviously Minji didn't know this and was uncomfortable with all the stares.
I looked beside me at Seokjin and noticed he was looking at Minji too. He noticed me looking at him and made eye contact with me. A silent argument passed back and forth between us and I ended up loosing. I sighed and walked over to Minji.
"Hey, MJ. Why don't you come stand with us?" I pointed over to my members and Seokjin started waving and Taehyung smiled at her. The other members just stared open mouthed like idiots.
Minji looked around at all the people staring at her before looking back at me. "I would love to stand with you guys."
I walked Minji over to the members and as soon as they stopped staring they bombarded her with questions. She politely answered question after question and I quietly backed away from the group to stand with Seokjin.
"So, how are you coping?" Seokjin asked.
"How do you think you asshole." I glared at Seokjin and he held up his hands in surrender.
"Okay, okay. I won't ask again." Seokjin smiled a mischievous smile and I knew that statement was a lie.
I was about to say something when the signal was given for everyone to go out on stage. TaeTiSeo walked out first, followed by us, and then Minji. The other bands filled in the rest of the stage behind us.
Somehow I was the one who ended up standing next to Minji on stage and I was pretty sure it had something to do with Seokjin. I awkwardly stood there and Minji refused to look anywhere but the floor. I could tell she still wasn't used to being on stage yet. I rolled my eyes and focused on the scoreboard that would announce the winner of today's show.
After the hosts said a few things the scoreboard started to reveal the numbers for the top three. The more numbers that were revealed the more nervous I became. It was down to the wire between the three of us but in the end the score was revealed as us being the winner and confetti fell down on stage.
The members and I started celebrating and the trophy was handed to Namjoon. Our song started to play over the speakers for our encore performance and we all got ready. I was getting ready to walk over to my members when I heard a voice from behind me.
"Congratulations, Yoongi." I looked behind me and saw Minji.
She smiled up at me before walking off stage. I watched her walk away with a strange sense of déjà vu. A few seconds later I realized it was because the confetti raining down on us looked strangely like pink cherry blossoms, just like in my dream.
