Chapter 43

Feyre and I ran from camp as soon as we got the chance. We gathered supplies and weapons, and I grabbed her hand and we disappeared into shadows.

I had to resurface several times as the ash dart Brannagh had managed to get me with was making it hard.

We arrived at the boarder of Autumn by the time the sun was setting.

I slowly sank to my knees, breathing hard. Feyre knelt next to me. "You did amazing, Adrianna. Please rest. For the baby." She said and rested a hand on my shoulder.

I grit my teeth. "Are you sure we're far enough away?"

"I'm mot sure. But you can't shadow travel us across a Court while pregnant."

"But the plan-" I began but she gave me a look.

"The plan involved an Adrianna that wasn't pregnant. And now we have an Adrianna that is pregnant, so that means we can alter the plan. We'll change it. I'll help. They poisoned my food with faebane. I'm not sure how much longer I'll have access to my powers." Feyre says gently.

"I don't feel comfortable out here, Feyre. We need to find someplace to hide, then we can rest. Tamlin will be hunting you. Us. He knows what we did." I sighed and rubbed at my face.

She frowned. "Spring is rioting. He's kind of preoccupied at the moment. And I say let him suffer. He also did awful things to you and Rhys and your family. I don't care what happens to him now."

"Well, I care about what happens to you. So let's get moving. The full moon is five days from now. We have a lot of traveling to do between here and now." I said and Feyre stood and pulled me to my feet and we walked around until we found a cave.

We had just got a fire going when a silhouette appeared in the entrance, cloaked. I was up immediately and drew my weapons.

"Wait. It's me." A voice said and I stiffened.

"Lucien?" I demanded. "What the hell are you doing? Get out of here."

"No. I'm leaving Spring. I'm coming with you, remember? You don't know Autumn as well as I do." He said and stepped into the cave slowly, hands raised. "I want to help you. I don't trust Tamlin anymore, Hybern is a monster, and my father is an evil man. You won't last long- especially if he discovers you two in his Court."

I clenched my jaw. He wasn't lying. "What do you want?"

"The truth. All of it."

I released a heavy sigh then said, "Sit. It'll take a while."

He did as was told and he and Feyre eyed each other warily. I took a deep breath, then told him all of it, from the time he came to Night Court with the letters from Ravenna all the way to the present. Lucien sat and listened, a flat expression on his face.

When I finished, he nodded slowly. "So your plan was to just uproot the Spring Court, and fool Hybern? He won't be too happy about being tricked."

I shrugged. "Yes, but now he has to work to help his allies in Spring. It gives us more time as they try to fix what's going on..." I drifted off and said, "Don't move." I spread my arms and shadows engulfed the cave until even the fire's light was drowned out.

There was something in the woods outside the cave.
We sat still, waiting for it to pass, hearts beating hard.

It felt like an eternity before whatever it was finally disappeared. I released the shadows and sank back.

"What was that?" Feyre asked anxiously.

"I don't know. There could be anything crawling around in these woods." Lucien said warily. "You two rest. I'll wake you up when it's time to move on."

I didn't entirely trust him, but did as was told anyways, curling up and falling asleep.

We left the cave at dawn and made our way north, through a tunnel Lucien led us to and into Autumn Court. We worked quickly, Lucien and I taking shifts to winnow us through the Court to go faster.

Two days away from the full moon, we were greeted from some unwelcome visitors. Three male Fae with red hair and swords.

"Lucien. So good to see you again, brother." One said with a grin.

"I wish I could say the same, Eris." Lucien replied with a glare.

Eris cocked his head and looked at Feyre and I, a wicked grin spreading across his face and I sent one back, my promise to Mor ringing in my head.

"Lucien. Feyre. You go on ahead. I'll catch up to you." I say as I draw my swords.

"Adrianna, that's really not-" Feyre began but I turned and shouted,

"Go!"

Lucien grabbed Feyre's arm and winnowed away. Eris turned to glare at me.

"You've got some nerve, Illyrian."

I raised an eyebrow. "So do you."

He scoffed, looking to his brothers. "I think you seriously overestimate yourself, bitch. There's more of us."

"Perfect. Didn't want you to make it too easy for me."  I said with a small smirk and flourished my weapons, wings flaring as shadows curled around the tips of my wings and around my arms and legs. "So go ahead, Sons of Beron. Make your move."

The first one charged, launching a ball of fire at me
Which I deflected with a glow of my Syphons. A second charged me with a sword and I barely moved as I knocked his weapon from his grasp and ducked as a second sword was swung at my head. I kicked the knee of the first brother and rolled to dodge a second ball of flames.

"I thought you were royalty. No wonder Autumn is so far south." I said with a smirk.

Eris released a shout of anger and launched fire at my head, and I ducked and disappeared into shadows.

I could hear them raging in the forest and I sent them in the opposite direction and snickered as I dropped into shadows once more.

I located Feyre and Lucien a few moments later and they jumped, staring at me in shock. "Well don't just stand there. We still have a day's journey ahead of us. We need to reach the ice lake by night fall."

I grabbed their hands and disappeared into shadows before they could protest.

I had to stop. I collapsed several hours later, shaking all over and breathing hard. Feyre kneeled in front of me, hands on my shoulders. I shook, my breath coming out in misty puffs of condensation, curling an arm around my stomach.

I released a slow breath, trying to calm myself. My body was weak. I hadn't eaten much, and what I did eat was thrown up. I looked up, squinting through the trees.

Close. We were so close. I reached for that bond deep inside of me and I began to tug on it, cursing my luck as I tried to summon Azriel here myself.

I got up, pushing aside Lucien and Feyre, and looked out into the distance. Where was he? He should be here.

Suddenly, a fire ball blasted a hole in the tree by my head and I spun around. "Shit!" I yelled and grabbed Feyre's hand and we sprinted out of the forest, stumbling over snow and tree roots as we made it closer to the boarder of Autumn into Winter.

The lake was there. The sun was setting, and the full moon was rising.

We made it to the ice, then a sharp pain ruptured in my back and I cried out with a choked scream as I fell into the ice, face first, my nose cracking on the hard surface.

We were surrounded, and there was an ash arrow in my shoulder blade. My left wing sagged, and I knew the only reason I wasn't dead was because of the larger bones in the back I had.

I groaned and prodded at my face, then helped in pain as boots were slammed onto my wings, pinning me to the ice.

Tears streamed down my face in pain, my wings aching, and the ash arrow draining my powers.

I looked up to see Lucien being held back by his brothers, and Eris...Eris had Feyre by the hair. Rage coursed through me and I pulled my arm free. I latched onto the cuff on my wrist and felt Azriel's heartbeat.

And then I reached for that bond. I thought of him right here with me, holding me in his arms as I told him about how I was pregnant. I imagined how he's crush me in a hug.

And then there was an overwhelming sense of worry clouding my mind and familiar shadows curled around my ankles and up my legs, around my wrists and laced through my fingers.

The tears flowed down my cheeks faster now.

"Azriel!" I screamed out loud.

And then there was a thumping noise and crunching of ice as one Illyrian landed with red Syphons glowing, wings outstretched and whole. Fixed. Feyre and I were both crying and smiling as the General leveled enraged looks upon the brothers pinning me and holding Feyre.

Then, a second Illyrian landed, blue Syphons flowing, and the shadows around my wrists and ankles tightened as Azriel met my eyes, the shadows surrounding him skittering across the ice.

He took one look at the males pinning me and a look of utter rage crossed his face.

I began to cry even harder, a new resolve taking over me as I locked eyes with Azriel. I needed them off of me before I could do anything.

Without so much as moving a muscle, the shadows on my wrists moved and instead launched themselves into the Fae males, sending them toppling backwards. I struggled to my feet, then, picking up one of my swords.

Cassian lunged at that moment, and Feyre was free from Eris' grasp. Lucien got free, and Azriel appeared before me, gathering me into his arms as he helped me stand, his strong arm around my waist, the other holding a sword.

Cassian and Azriel look ready to end the Fae when Feyre said, "Stop."

And they did. A single command, and they stopped. I looked to Feyre and noticed she had been cut by an arrow, her sleeve ripped free, and the Illyrian tattoos marking her station as High Lady stood stark for all to see.

"What is this?" Eris demanded.

"I am High Lady of Night Court." Feyre said. "And we are leaving."

Eris scoffed. "There's no such thing as a High Lady."

"There is now." Feyre said with a smirk. "Now go run home and tell your father."

The brothers looked at the Illyrians standing around Feyre, hesitating only a moment more, before turning tail and fleeing.

I turned to look at Azriel and he turned to face me and merely scooped me up into his arms and I held onto him tightly, stuffing my face in his shoulder and crying, blood from the ash arrow dripping down my back.

"Az. Get her home. Mor and I can take Feyre and Lucien back to the House." Cassian said and Feyre nodded.

Azriel nodded in return and raised his wings and shot into the air again, holding me tightly to his chest.

"I-I'm so s-sorry, Az." I choked through my tears, sounding like a blubbering idiot.

"You're back, my love. That's all that matters." He replies and kisses my cheek. "Let's get you healed. Get you fixed. Get you safe. Then you can talk about it, alright?" He whispers.

I knew he knew I had something wrong with me. My spine could be felt through my clothes now, and I was significantly lighter. Paler.

If only he knew it was because of me being pregnant.
