*****

I must have given Haven a heart attack because when I appeared around that corner, his wings flared in surprise and he took a stumbling step back.

"Adrianna!" He gasped.

I settled my expression into one of indifference. "Yes?"

He faltered, seemingly not expecting such a plain response. Rhys and Cassian had their arms crossed and they merely watched the confrontation. I looked at Rhys and he inclined his head.

He knew I knew now. That I knew all of it. And he seemed pleased.

My gaze fell onto Haven again and I lifted my left hand- bare of the ring he had given me and covered in my tattoos- to my chin and said, "Did I hear a mention of you saying you had a claim on me?"

"I...no. I didn't. You have a choice, too. I was merely-"

"You know, I don't like liars." I interrupted and studied the nails of my left hand. His eyes were trained onto the tattoos. "So I won't lie to you when I say I found my mate and am no longer interested in pursuing you romantically, but I am interested in your death, much like my High Lord and General both seem to be as well. And my mate. The one you stabbed- he's fine. But I'm not in a forgiving mood."

His jaw clenched. "Adrianna, I-"

"I think, Haven, that you had better have a damn good excuse for why you are like this. Because I'm pretty sure your torture and later execution falls under my jurisdiction, is that not correct, Lord Rhysand?"

Rhys grinned at Haven and said, "Yes. I'm sure you'll find my most loyal Assassin and her mate quite a good pair when it comes to dishing out your end. I did warn you that you would die if-"

"I know something about Adrianna that you won't get if you torture or kill me."  Haven said desperately, hands raised in defense.

I raised both eyebrows in shock. Rhys narrowed his violet eyes on him and all of a sudden, Haven was on his knees clutching his head with a grimace in pain. "Let me remind you that I could take it easily from your skull and then turn you into nothing but red mist. But, because I'm feeling generous, I think I'll let Adrianna handle you."

He looked at me and Azriel materialized behind me, an arm looping around my shoulders as he looked at Haven with a glare of pure hatred. The shadows around him seemed to grow and he looked almost...scary. I merely reached up to hold his hand and smirked at Haven as he cowered, realizing just how much of a mistake he had made.

"I am curious about what you have to say about my mate." Azriel said in a soft tone laced with venom. "Shall we go somewhere else so we can talk?"

Haven was shaking like a leaf.

I stepped out from under Azriel's arm and looked up at Haven and said, "Let's talk."

I grabbed his arm and we disappeared into shadows and reappeared in a dungeon cell in the Keep before the Court. I tossed him inside and slammed the door, locking it after him. He stood up immediately and grabbed onto the bars, looking down at me desperately.

"I spent twenty-two years Under the Mountain, you know. In a cell much like this one where I was only let out to fight to death in an arena for the entertainment of Amarantha and her goons. But you were gone before you could perhaps have saved me from my kidnappers who were ordered to kill you and abduct me by your old friend Jace." I raised an eyebrow at him. "I am surprised, and have to say I expected a lot more from you. I guess you'll be glad to know that my abductors and Jace are dead now. I killed them. I had to save myself. You weren't there. So, let's hope I don't forget you're down here. And get comfortable. Because your powers have a dampener on them. You can't escape. So, have fun."

I turned to leave when he reached through the bars and grabbed my wrist. "Wait."

Azriel's hand went to his sword at the sudden contact.

I stiffened and grabbed his wrist, wrenching it to the side and it snapped. Haven let out a pained screech and I healed it at it's bent angle. "Have fun with that crippled hand now. Touch me again and you loose the hand. What do you want?"

He glared at me in hatred. "I hope you understand something, Adrianna. About me. About why I did what I did."

"You were a spy for Hybern. Feeding him intel on the Night Court. My people. My home. You disgust me. And you wanted to give me to that wretched king."

"No. I was to return you. There's a difference." He snarled.

I stepped back from the cell and Azriel pointed the tip of the sword at his throat. "Mind elaborating?"

Haven had the nerve to grin, hands raised in defense. "You have no idea what you're dealing with."

Azriel raised an eyebrow, then calmly sheathed his sword at his side again and instead drew the dagger at his side. Truth Teller.

"My love, perhaps you could speak to the High Lord for a little?" He said and looked at me. And I knew that look. What he felt and why he wanted to be the one to do it.

I merely nodded. "Yes. I'll see you soon." I rested a hand on his cheek and kissed him full on the lips in front of Haven, and when I pulled away, the look of hurt in the traitor's eyes only made me smirk.

I disappeared into shadow and reappeared into the courtyard.

"What happened?" Cassian asked and was walking towards me and immediately pulled me into a hug. I hugged him back, then pulled away and looked up at him, smiling softly.

"I'm ok, Cassian. Azriel wanted to do this part of the interrogation."

"Did Haven say anything about you?" Rhysand asked. He stood by the balcony, a thoughtful expression on his face and brow creased.

"He said his job was to return me to Hybern. He didn't elaborate but I'm sure Azriel will be able to get him to." I shuddered a little and rubbed at my arms.

"If Azriel can't make him talk, no one can." Amren said dryly. She was lounging in a chair with her legs over one arm.

"I hope so." I said.

"Your mate hasn't failed in cracking someone for as long as I've known him." Amren said and picked at her nails. "He'll come up covered in blood and won't say a word. Let him come to you. He needs to be alone after interrogations."

I nodded. "Thank you for the heads-up."

Mor sat silently in another chair with a glass of wine. I let out a slow breath, then said, "Mor? Could we perhaps go for a walk through Velaris?"

Her blue eyes shot up to meet mine and she shrugged. "Sure. Are you able to fly us down?"

I faltered. "I'm still working on my physical therapy. The muscles aren't strong enough to support me in the air for longer than a minute at most and that's when I am using them like a parachute to slow down when I winnow in."

She frowned. "Then Cassian can." She looked to him and he merely shrugged and motioned for us to follow him to the edge of the balcony, giving us a wary look. He wrapped his arms around each of our waists and leapt off of the balcony and soared off towards Velaris.

After we were far enough away, Mor winnowed us into the city and outside of a townhouse.

"Thank you, Cassian." I said.

He nodded and gave us one last careful look before taking off again.

Mor was already up the steps and I went up after her and she opened the door and closed it behind us. She opened a second door from the antechamber and into a cozy main room.

She snapped her fingers and breakfast was laid out on the table. "Help yourself. I've noticed you haven't eaten much."

I clenched my jaw and merely nodded in thanks. I picked up a plate and put some bread, fruit, and eggs onto it and sat down at the table. She stood leaning against the wall.

"I want you to know I don't hate you." I say quietly when the silence becomes too much to bare. "I never did. What it was is I thought you hated me. And I didn't understand why."

"Am I not allowed to be jealous?" She asked softly.

I clenched my jaw. "You are entitled to your own opinions, Mor. I know you were connected to him somehow and-"

"That's not it. I care for him, yes, but...I don't love men."

I froze. "I-oh. I'm sorry."

She shrugged. "It isn't a common occurrence. It's fine. You didn't know. Azriel has always been close to my heart even if we were never together. It was just strange for me to adjust to. He spoke about you a lot. All those twenty-two years he did. It was easy to think of you as just a story, but when the story became reality, I didn't respond in the way I should have, and I am sorry."

I pondered her words. "I understand. I do. And I forgive you, Mor. I hope we can some day become friends."

She looked at me and said, "You seem to be close with Feyre."

I nodded and pushed my eggs around on my plate. "Yeah. We were in cells across form one another. I-"

My voice broke off and Rhys' voice thundered in my mind a command I hardly expected to come from him.

I need you and Mor to go to the Spring Court. Now. And get Feyre. Bring her here. She's in trouble.

By the look on her face, I knew she had gotten the message as well. And the edge of panic in his voice was enough to confirm any lingering suspicions I had about his feelings for her.

I stood and cracked my knuckles and we left the townhouse and winnowed as soon as our feet touched the cobblestones to the Spring Court.

When I got there, I felt a surge of rage come over me.

The windows were barred and covered with wards that I watched Rhys shatter easily. As soon as they were down, I was inside in a matter of seconds.

They had practically caged her.

Inside, I found Feyre laying on the ground in a fetal position with her arms around her head.

I watched as Mor races over to her and pulled her into her arms and whispered things in her ear. I drew my sword and watched as Spring Court guards streamed into the main hall.

"Mor we have to go!" I shouted, my wings flaring in alarm. I had no weapon other than the knife on my hip. And I knew a strike from either of us could launch a war between the Spring and Night Courts.

I saw her standing, holding Feyre tightly and I nodded to her.

She winnowed out of sight and I was surrounded. I looked up to the top of the stairs to see a Fae with long blond hair next to another with long red hair and a scar across his face with a robotic eye whirring in his skull.

A sudden realization hit me and that's when I realized I had killed the wrong Fae.

Standing at the top of the stairs was the Fae that was there that night.
