Kingpin Part 4

"May Parker, or should I call you....Kingpin"

A deadly silence fell upon the room. May kept a neutral look, not letting a single emotion show. She looked through the darkness trying to see who was talking but failed. It was as if the stranger was wrapped in shadow. Suddenly the reveal of who he was was shown when two glowing white eyes formed in the darkness. It didn't take a genius to realize who this was, the spook. She's heard plenty about him on the news and from J. Jonah Jameson at the daily bugle.

"Where did you get this?", May asked with a demanding tone. Spook didn't move, choosing not to bend to her demand. Commanding J.A.C.K the video on the computer changed to another.

Hearing the difference in this video her attention went back to the computer. The video began to play showing two people walking into the office. It showed a slightly younger Fisk walking side by side with Aunt May. She had a happy smile on her face as she took a seat at her desk and Fisk across from her. Reaching into a drawer she brought out an expensive bottle of brandy with two glasses which she filled before giving one to Fisk. Both raised their glasses before taking a sip.

"You've come a long way Wilson. Still remember when we first met, you trying to steal the rims off my car *chuckles*. Look at you now, set to be the next Kingpin of New York City. With my retirement you will take over taking its responsibilities and perks. No one will know who you are but they will know who you are. This is the way and life of being Kingpin", Past May said before taking another sip.

"Can I ask you a question miss Parker"

"Please, I think you've known me long enough to earn the right to call me by my first name, plus I'm not going to be kingpin anymore. Of course, you can ask me anything"

"Why did you decide to retire May?", Past Wilson asked. May looked at her glass thinking on the question before turning her chair to the window behind her. It was night as she looked out at the city before answering the question.

"Time, that's why I'm retiring. Seeing my Nephew grow up from a distance has shown me that I can't do this forever *chuckles lightly*. Sooner or later someone will decide to try and pry this throne from my hands or age will take it without much effort. My legacy has been cemented for another to take my place, as it was meant to be. It's time now that another kingpin takes my place like many before. It'll be nice to finally meet my nephew in person and live a quieter life"

"Never thought I'd see the day. Always expected you to die as a kingpin, just like your father"

"Surprises are the spice of life", May responds with a small chuckle. The video then shifted to another. This one was a more recent one that dated back close to the spooks origins, before his parent's death.

It shows Wilson Fisk sitting at his desk. Looking out at the city. Soon his intercom to his secretary went off. Pressing a button he was told someone he was waiting for had arrived. With a simple "let him in" he went back to looking out at the city. The person who walked in surprised may but not Spook, because he's already watched this video. He watched her analyzing her reaction. The man who walked in was none other than Joseph Martello, or better known as Hammerhead.

"Forgive my bluntness but I was surprised to be called in personally by you. Lucky you caught me between jobs and my employers are open to me working independently as long as I don't work for our main competitors", Hammerhead said showing no care. This was a behavior that Kingpin liked. Showed he didn't bend just to please someone. Hard people to come across these days.

"There's a job that I need done quietly. Quiet as in never telling anyone who hired you or the real reasons why the job was carried out, or it even was a job"

"I'll have to admit, I've never had a job like this before. Color me curious. What's the job and pay?", Hammerhead asked, taking a seat. At the same time Fisk turned around in his chair leaning on his desk with his hands folded.

"The pay will be two million dollars for doing the job and staying quiet about the job, even if caught. Though because of the nature of this job I can't discuss the details unless you decide you want to take it and if you do, know this. If you are to back out or fail this job you'll end up at the bottom of the Hudson bay in pieces. With this in mind, do you wish to take the job?", Fisk said. Hammerhead took a moment to think but just as quickly came with his answer.

"That's way more than I'll ever make doing the jobs I'm more suited for. Consider it done, now what's the job?". Fisk grabbed a piece of paper writing down an address with a set of names. Sliding the paper forward he looked at the address and names, memorizing them before tearing the paper apart.

"That is the address and name of Richard and Mary parker. I need them killed, make it look like a home invasion gone wrong. Make sure there aren't any witnesses and leave no traces. They have a child as well, dispose of him if need be", Fisk said with a serious look. Hammerhead just showed a smirk before standing up and walking out of the office. The video paused as May had a look of surprise that quickly died as it came.

"Did you know?", Spook asked with a hint of venom in his words. May gave him a confused look wondering why he was taking such interest in this. Taking a seat in the living room she looked at Spook as he asked again.

"Did you know!?", he shouted walking across the room. With a neutral look she let out a long sigh as he stood in front of her. She could tell he was glaring at her behind the mask. She couldn't figure out why he was so interested in his sister and brother-in-law's death. Especially with how much anger he was showing.

"Why should I tell you? last I checked you're not a part of my family", May responded sharply. Her response would quickly change though.

"Fine, you won't say it to my face. Then tell it to this one", Spook said, reaching for his mask. In an act that surprised May he removed his mask to show Jack behind it. Her eyes went wide with shock as her jaw dropped. Jack held a glare that would make anyone crumble due to the anger hidden behind it. It was surprise he hadn't already broken something or punched a hole in the wall. "Now tell me the truth, Aunt may. Did you know he ordered my parents to be killed!? DID YOU!?!?"

"......no, but I suspected", Aunt May answered calmly. Jack analyzed her trying to see any sign that she may be lying but couldn't. Though he held his glare wanting further explanation which May caught onto. "Fisk has always been thorough to a point a fool would take it as being paranoid, but it was him just being cautious. When they were killed it was months after my retirement as kingpin, but the timing was too coincidental. You didn't become Kingpin by being naive. Knowing Fisk he probably thought at some point I might decide to come back and retake my title, but I was honest in that video. I wanted to retire and never come back, though I left out some other details. Being Kingpin has its perks and its curses, we'll leave it at that for now. So he most likely ordered your parents murder as a way to ward me off, probably knowing I would take you in too if you weren't killed. After their deaths I did take you in and made sure you could protect yourself too to honor your parents, it's why I signed you up for those martial arts classes. Was worried when you stop going to them you wouldn't be able to defend yourself, guess I was wrong"

"That son of a bitch!", Jack said clutching his hands into fists. Letting his anger go through his body it quickly left. Finding out the truth behind his parent's murder and his aunt's past made him tired. Throwing his mask onto the coffee table he took a seat in a chair on the opposite side of the room. An awkward silence filled the room as both looked at each other, really looked at each other. Both their secrets were out now, both could see each other true selves.

"You're the spook, *chuckles* thought I had my secrets. Though it does explain why you've been out so late. Explains the sudden muscle gain too even though you never went to the gym and stopped going to martial arts class. Just thought you were out for so long was because you found yourself a girlfriend. My money was on that Andi girl if that was the case", May said with a playful smirk. Jack just gave her a deadpan look not liking the jab at the end. Gwen would probably laugh at this if he told her.

"And you used to be the kingpin of New York's underworld. Tonight's full of surprises. Which begs the question, what is the Kingpin?", Jack asked. May had a smile seeing Jack's history lover coming out since his glare was replaced with a look of interest. He was always like this as a kid and still is, just got better at hiding it as he got older. A history nerd at heart, just like his father.

May began to explain the history of the kingpin. The first kingpin was her grandfather who started the line of kingpins back in the early 1890s. At the time New York's criminal underworld was a war zone, different gangs and mafia families trying to set a foothold to build a full criminal empire. While they fought with each other her grandfather worked in the shadows to create his empire, which worked. Her grandfather was assassinating and building his empire. The whole time keeping his real name a secret along with his movements and where he lived. Only a select few knew who he actually was. His name was hidden behind an alias, the kingpin.

Her grandfather built his empire rather quickly since so many were fighting against each other he was able to make deals that lead to their mutual destruction. So many at the time wanted power but also structure, so when her grandfather promised both they were more than willing to join. Soon his empire grew, an empire of shadows. It also began the beginning of a family lineage. The title would pass on through the years through the family, and for a while strictly stayed that way. If someone wanted to be kingpin they had to be a part of the family, but that changed over the years. The title could still pass to family members but if one was to take an apprentice it could be passed onto them when the current kingpin decided to retire or if they passed on. This was how Wilson Fisk rose to power.

"Who knew a criminal empire could last that long. Historically most crumbled due to their leader being caught or a member trying to backstab his way to the top. Though staying in the shadows and not showing off one's wealth and power helps. Surprising that no one has found out about this until now", Jack said, letting the information sit. May quickly explained why that was.

"Like you said, Kingpin's don't flaunt their power and wealth. The kingpin's are always a part of charities and fundraisers, a good way to hide the business. We believed in their causes though, may be a part of a criminal empire but we weren't monsters. We know some aren't meant for this life so help to give them a better choice we helped charities give kids a better life. Didn't make us saints though. Anyone who did get too close was either bought off or disposed of". All this information changed how Jack viewed his Aunt. Before he saw her as a nice older lady with the heart of an angel, now. He couldn't even recognize her. Then again, who was he to judge?

Jack was anything but a model person. During the time the mayor was held hostage he broke a man's fingers just to find out where the hostages were. He nearly killed a man because he hurt his friend Peter, unleashing a more animal side of himself. Before he even became the spook he beat criminals maliciously as a way to deal with his anger. Barely did he ever use his words to get anything, violence was his language. Not too different from his aunt. Learning this made him see how he could have gone down that road, the road of a full criminal. He also noticed the regret that was laced in some of the words from his aunt.

"What are you going to do Jack?", Aunt may ask, knocking him out of his thoughts. He looked at his Aunt as she gave him an analyzing look. It was strange to see this side of her. Then again, tonight was full of oddities.

"He goes down, hard"

"You know the power vacuum that'll take its place don't you? The Kingpin is a support in the criminal underworld and the city, a major one. If you remove this support the city could see full scale gang wars and wars between families. Many people could die from this. Knowing this, you still wish to remove him?", Aunt May asked, testing his resolve.

"Yes, from what I've heard this has been going on for too long. The families torn apart, including mine, along with those taken from this world due to his drug trade, or because they caught on to the empire. It needs to end, but I'll make sure no one thinks about trying to take that position", Jack said before standing up. Grabbing his mask he made his way to his room but was stopped before walking up the stairs.

"Are you going to ki..."

"Never, hunting down Hammerhead solidified that I will NEVER kill. As much as I personally agree that sometimes the situation may call for it, I can't do it. I'm afraid of what'll happen to me after. If I take one life, what would stop me from taking another? Does a common mugger deserve to live? or a kid my age pickpocketing? that is a situation I don't wish to apart of"

"And what about us?", May asked. This was the true question that Jack was trying to avoid. He was too tired to think about this and had planned to do in the morning on what to do with the videos he stole from Kingpin. For now, his focus stays on the current kingpin.

"We'll see"
