Chapter 1

*~*A few months later*~*

*~*Ireland's POV*~*

"Leave." I said sternly, holding my sword to his neck, and the young boy instantly ran away frightened.

I shook my head. I had a bad feeling about that kid. I knew he was a country, but that didn't mean my country was free land to roam at anytime he wanted to. I didn't care what the country was, he was clearly not a threat to my future.

The prediction was still fresh in my mind, and I wasn't taking any chances, I, in fact, haven't seen Italy for months. I had started wondering how he was doing, but I didn't want to risk my home being invaded, and taken over.

I sighed. It wasn't that important, plus I was sure that Italy was having a dandy life with his brothers (I SWEAR IF YOU HAVEN'T ACTUALLY SEEN THE EPISODES. YOU GO WATCH THEM, PLEASE!).

I didn't really know his brothers, but I knew he had been really close to Grandpa Rome. They had a fondness, that I could never share with anyone, except my father and brother, pass between them, whenever they were around each other.

I shook my head, sending my curly, ginger hair flying in all directions. I had to focus on why that kid kept coming back here.

'Maybe next time I catch him, I'll ask him why he keeps coming back, no matter how many times I scared him off before...' I thought to myself, staring in the direction where he ran off.

I turned around and walked back across lush green countryside. I could spot a few 4-leafed shamrocks here and there, but I didn't go out of my way to pick them up, like I used to. My mind was still focused on the kid, and why he came here.

Day after day I chased him out, and it was starting to become a problem. I had to bring it up to my boss, I had made up my mind.

I knew I couldn't bring it up to my father, who had been killed in the Viking invasion about two months back, sadly I could still tell they were along the shores. I was able to chase them out of the midlands, but that was about it... 'Damn you, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway! I curse your souls to hell!' I thought, starting to jog.

Suddenly, I started sprinting to my home, Dublin, and ran to the castle that my boss lived in. I knocked on the front door, and it was quickly opened by one of the maids.

"Oh, Ireland! Come in, come in." She said, holding the door open more.

I nodded, and thanked her before running up the steps towards my boss's "office."

The guards saw me coming, and opened the door, and I ran in. My boss was talking with his wife when I burst in. They looked at me confused and concerned.

"What's wrong, Ireland? Is one of the other countries attacking, one of other kingdoms? Are the nordics back?" My boss asked, as I was catching my breath, and I shook my head.

"Then what is it?" He asked, and I looked up.

"I've been keeping something from you, that I think you should know now," I said standing up straight.

"Tell me. If it wasn't important, you wouldn't have come to me." He said, and his expression quickly turned serious.

"There's kid running around the fields outside the village. I've caught him a few times, and he keeps coming back, no matter what. Every time he comes here, he looks older, and I'm worried that he's a-" I started but was cut off, by my boss's hearty laugh.

"It's just a child! Why plenty of children run around the fields! And all children look a little older every day. So why are you so worried?" He asked, his thick Danish accent making me flinch a bit, but his wife came up to me, and knew exactly what I was thinking.

"That's the problem. What if the child, a week ago looked like a five year old, but today he looked to be about twelve. If that's it, he's a country, and that country's population could be growing quickly. What we need to worry about is the fact that the child could be a threat to our country..." She said, and I smiled. My boss's goofy smile again faded quickly, as he dwelled on the thought of the child being a country.

I had grown up with her, and was happy that my boss had decided to marry her, and not someone I don't like, even if she was one of my people. We knew exactly what each other were thinking in times of need. Not only that, but she was a valiant fighter. We would train together in the fields, and she would always beat me.

"I was planning on asking him why he was here, but I might come off a little threatening, so can one of you please come with me on my next patrol? So you can question him?" I asked looking between the two.

"Lavender, can you please go with her? You know I have plenty to do, and Ireland, I expect you to protect her with your life." My boss said, and Lavender and I nodded.

"When's the next time you go out on patrol?" Lavender turned to me.

"Around 7 am. If that's too early for you, I can hold the time back so you could-" I started, but was cut off by Lavender's laugh.

"Are you kidding? I'll be up way before than! Would you mind setting off on patrol a little earlier?" She asked and I laughed.

"Of course!" I said, then I walked out of the room, wondering what the country would look like the next day.
