Chapter 29 - Knights in White Satin.

Time: 23:Years Prior
Location: Melbourne, Australia

The phone rang, SPECTRE, as soon as he picked up a voice said, "There is a problem with your new recruit Father Dan. A letter from Paris from a certain young lady. He is going well young Petros, it would be folly to allow a distraction at this point. You know the girl, will she be a continuing problem do you think?"

Father Dan hesitated, "I don't think so, as far as I know she is adopting out the baby and is annoyed with Peter to the point of forgetting about him, why? What's she say in the letter?"

"She is telling him about the child and it appears she intends to keep it. She wants to bring it back to Australia to show him his son, She has even named it after him, 'Peter Cheval'. I think I need to let Rome know, let them decide what's best".

"And Peter, has he written to her?" asked Father Dan. "Several times, quite the romantic, at times our Peter isn't he, always with the white satin envelopes sealed with kisses. I think I have intercepted them all but I can't be sure. The girl does complain of his silent treatment in her letters, so I am assuming I have, we do have contingency plans don't we?"

"Yes, yes, her mother will intercept anything from either of them that gets through addressed via her." Dan replied with relief, he would have hated to admit any obvious holes in the plan. SPECTRE didn't like holey plans. He smiled to himself but kept the pun to himself, the Keeper didn't have much of a sense of humour at the best of times.

"Still there is still the danger of either of them finding out where the other one is, not to mention if the girl follows through with her plan to come back to Sydney. Leave it with me, I will talk to Rome."

The phone went dead, not one for pleasantries, the Keeper, thought Father Dan. The Keeper was right though, there was an ever present danger that Peter could discover the truth. He would not be happy if he did, even in his, now, compliant state, there was no real telling what he might do. It would be a shame to waste a year of training. Oh well, little I can do from here, the Keeper will fix it.

Little did Father Dan know of the nature and the extent that the Keeper had planned, nor the lengths he was willing to go to see his plans to fruition.
