If you're caught in a situation which is out of your control, or even a simple argument; don't dive in, don't pursue it.

Reel back, rewind and take a moment to calm down. Distract yourself with something and then when your overwhelming emotions aren't blurring your judgment, then decide how to tackle the situation.

9/10 times it's best to take a break before resolving any issue. But don't take too long, because then you're only feeding your ego instead of gearing up for a mature way to deal with the problem.
