Chapter 16
Poseidon's point of view
Sally and I were sitting in the throne room when there was a knock on the throne room door. I said "Come in" and when the door opened in walked Percy, he was smiling but I could tell that it didn't quite reach his eyes. He said "I thought I would stop by, and I brought someone that I think you would both like to meet."
I'm pretty sure we both guessed who he meant and then our suspicions were confirmed when Luke stepped out from behind Percy. When Sally saw him she got off her throne and ran over to him and Percy, I don't think I have ever seen her move that fast.
Anyway we introduced ourselves to him, Luke recognized me from the time that I had given him his sword. But since he hadn't yet been introduced to our world I couldn't tell him who I really was. We talked for a while and I figured that Luke wouldn't be coming here very often I thought Tyson might want to meet him so I brought Tyson in to meet him as well. I wasn't surprised when after they were introduced Tyson ran over and hugged him. Of course as usual Tyson was hugging him a bit too hard, and Luke just managed to say "can't breathe." and Tyson let go. I could tell that as that was going on Percy was stifling laughter, since he is usually on the receiving end of Tyson's hugs.
Luke thanked Tyson for his shield and we continued to talk. At times Percy's usual self would shine through. Lately he seemed less cheerful than usual just pretending that he was his normal self. The reason for that was obvious enough but no one mentioned it not wanting to dampen the mood.
I was considering doing something for Luke, I knew Percy wouldn't mind but my brother might not like it once he learns of it, but then again I don't really care what Zeus thinks we'll deal with him when the time comes. I turned to Luke and said "I have decided to give you my blessing, will you accept?"
He was surprised, well surprised is probably an understatement but he managed to say "of course I will thank you." I put my hand on his shoulder and gave him my blessing afterward I explained what his new powers were. He already had some of the sea related abilities from Percy but he gained the ability to speak to marine and equestrian animals, and to make hurricanes.
Percy was also rather surprised at my choice to bless his son. But I got the feeling that Luke might end up being nearly as great a hero as Percy is considering that he had helped Percy defeat my counterpart giant Polybotes. He had also defeated numerous monsters during the battle as well as the Minotaur and the laistrygonian giants that had attacked him at his school.
Suddenly a merman burst into the room. He said "My apologies my lord, but there is a large force approaching from the east. "Styx" Percy and I cursed at the same time after we realized we had said the exact same thing at the exact same time we laughed, while sally shook her head at us. She had given up trying to get us to stop cussing a couple of years ago deciding we were a lost cause.
We sobered up quickly though since we were facing a new battle. Tyson looked at me asking a silent question and I nodded, he left to gather and prepare the cyclopses for battle. Percy turned to Luke and said "Head back to camp, tell Chiron what happened down here. I'm staying to help."
Luke replied "No I want to help too." Percy said "We'll be fine, now go!" Luke said "Dad Please" Percy said "No I just lost Christina I can't lose you too." Luke gave us pleading looks as if looking for one of us to back him up, but I said "Listen to him we'll be fine." "Fine!" Luke said annoyed and went out the door.
After he was gone I looked at Percy and asked "Did that remind you of anything?" he blushed and said "Maybe." I snickered at him it certainly reminded me of a similar argument I had with him during the second Titan war when he wanted to help with the battle against Oceanus, but I had made him return to Camp where he was needed most.
Percy said "I guess we'd better go" we nodded and headed off to meet our enemies in battle. When we reached the enemy army we weren't entirely surprised by one of the people at the head of the army the other one however was a bit more surprising. (I thought about stopping here but I decided to make it longer.)
The one that didn't surprise me was Oceanus, but the one that shocked me to the core was my son Triton. Seeing your son and heir turn against you hurts like Hades, sorry brother. Now I truly understand how Hermes felt when his son Luke castellan turned on us. If Triton doesn't get his act together and come back to our side I might just take away his title as my heir. If I do take it away though I would either have to give it to Percy or have another child with Sally and give the title to that child. But I can think about that later, right now isn't the right time for such thoughts.
Percy's Point of view
When we reached the enemy army I was shocked to see Triton at its head, I knew that he had never really accepted me or mom but I never thought he would go so far as to turn on us. When he saw me he sneered at me and said "Hello Brother" he spat the word brother like it was the worst insult he could think of. I asked him "How could you do this, I get that you never really liked me or mom but we hold no grudge against you, and think about how dad feels right now seeing you with the enemy."
He didn't respond, instead he charged at me while Oceanus went for Dad and the cyclopses, telekhines, sea monsters, and basically every other sea creature that had agreed to side with Tartarus charged at Tyson and his force of cyclopses, our force of mermen, and Mom. By marrying dad she basically became a minor goddess of the seas, and over the past twelve years she had trained hard to fulfill her role as queen of the seas.
I didn't think Triton would be too much of a challenge since I'm an Olympian and he's a minor god, we fought sword against trident he would try and hit me, but I would block any blows he sent at me. We fought for a while until I got bored so I faked a strike and instead hit him in in the head with my sword butt knocking him out, we would decide what to do about him later. After I knocked him out I looked around to see who needed help. Dad seemed to be doing well against Oceanus so I looked for Mom she was fighting a group of telkhines, and an enemy cyclops was trying to sneak up behind her.
I watched and she never noticed it so I took action as it was swinging its club toward her head; I froze the cyclops in time and then headed toward it using the water to speed my progress. When I reached it I unfroze time and quickly stabbed it in the stomach, and the creature dissolved into sea silt. I continued to fight the monsters and other sea creatures, occasionally glancing to where my Mom and Dad were.
After he was told about the ongoing battle an old friend of ours showed up to help us, Briaries joined the fight. I waved when I saw him join, he saw and waved back with about fifty of his hands and was fighting with the rest. I glanced in my dad's direction and saw that he was beginning to tire, Oceanus looked the same as he had in the image I had seen of him during the second Titan war, and just as he was then he fought with a rather large snake.
That still seemed weird to me but titans are weird like that I guess. I just happened to glance to the right and I saw something that made me both angry and worried at the same time, a sea monster was just about to bite a familiar black haired boy. I immediately went into action I made the water move Luke away from the monster and froze the monster in time. I went toward them and when I was in front of Luke I unfroze the monster and stabbed my sword into its open mouth killing it. After that I made the water carry me and Luke further away from the battle.
Luke's Point of view
When I left the throne room I never actually left the palace, I hid in a darker part of the corridor outside and when my dad and grandparents left the room I followed them to the battle. I fought for a while but then that sea monster had just about got me, I thought I was done for and was seriously regretting not listening to Dad when the water pushed me away from the monster and the monster froze.
Right then I knew who had saved me, but I was also worried about the consequences for not listening to him. Now I am on the receiving end of his glare, a glare that I'm sure would scare Oceanus. He glared down at me and said "What were you thinking! If I hadn't seen you, you would be dead right now! Dead! I told you to go back to camp because this battle would be too difficult for you."
I said "I'm sorry" he said "Sorry isn't enough, you nearly got yourself killed! I couldn't stand to lose you too!" Once again I said "I'm sorry" after a moment's thought he said "No canoeing for a month." I wanted to complain but I thought better of it and just nodded and looked down. Then he said "Get back to camp now! I don't want to see you fighting in this battle again!"
I nodded and swam off I'd just angered one of the few gods I knew was on my side. I hoped he would come around, but I made a mental note not to make him mad again. I went back to camp and told Chiron what had happened although I may have left out the part about not listening to my dad and nearly getting myself killed, I'm sure dad would contact him and tell him that soon enough since the battle had been going in our favour. After talking to Chiron I went back to my cabin, it wasn't quite the same without Christina there, she along with Sam had helped me get used to camp life and with her and dad's help Camp Half blood was starting to feel like a second home for me.
Percy's Point of view
After Luke swam off I rejoined the battle I couldn't be sure but I don't think anyone had heard my argument with Luke over the noise of the battle, but then again most of the monsters were defeated either by me, Tyson and his cyclopses, the mermen, and Mom.
Dad was getting tired so I helped him finish off Oceanus. After all the monsters were taken care of, the cyclopses and mermen took care of their wounded and fallen comrades while Mom, Dad and I swam back toward the Palace. I was swimming beside Dad he said "What was that I heard back there?" I blushed scarlet and said "Luke didn't listen to us and nearly got himself killed. Thankfully I noticed and saved him but obviously I was annoyed."
My dad laughed and said "Annoyed might be an understatement." I blushed even redder, which just made him laugh harder. I said "Cut me some slack, I couldn't stand to lose him after..." I trailed off but Dad knew what I meant and stopped laughing and put a comforting hand on my shoulder. I let out a slight chuckle and said "It's moments like that when I wish Luke had gotten a bit more of his mother in him." Dad busted out laughing again; he asked me "What was she like? You don't have to tell me I'm just curious what kind of woman would get my son's attention only days after he had his heart broken by another woman." I blushed scarlet once again causing him to laugh. I thought for a moment about what to tell him or if I would tell him anything for that matter. As I was thinking I realized something, and although I hadn't realized it I had muttered it out loud, just loud enough for him to hear it. I had muttered "I seem to have a thing for smart blondes." Dad laughed even harder.
Having heard Dad's laughter but not what I had said, Mom said "What are you two talking about?" I quickly said "Nothing Mom" My dad was still laughing. Mom asked "What's so funny?" once again I said "Nothing Mom." She said "It most certainly wasn't nothing, what were you talking about?" this time I said "Mom maybe another time?" "Fine" she huffed.
Dad had finally stopped laughing and said "you aren't really going to tell her are you?" I admitted "I might have to tell you both more eventually whether I really want to or not." "Oh why?" he asked. Blushing again I said "I might have visited Amber recently, and although I hadn't really planned on doing it I might have proposed to her."
He raised an eyebrow and said "You still care for her that much" I just nodded. He said "You know what that would mean" I put my hands up in a surrender gesture and said "Yes dad I know, I have thought it over, and I would have to get the council to agree to it. Luke would have to stay at camp year round, because I highly doubt that Luke would be given immortality as well.
Besides even if it is offered to him I don't want to force him into anything he doesn't want. I have also given Amber time to make her decision, since I know it will be a hard choice for her. My dad nodded accepting that I had thought of everything. When we got back to the palace I wasn't sure what Dad had planned for Triton, but regardless I had my own duties to deal with, along with an apparently troublesome son, I contacted Chiron and told him of what had happened, and of the consequences I had thought of for him, Chiron said "He's a lot like you, you know." And I said "I've noticed." Chiron chuckled we didn't talk for very long after that, I figured that considering the day's events we would probably be having a meeting soon.
