Chapter 4: Annabeth

Five years. It's been five years since I've seen him.

His eyes, his smile, his humor. How he was such an idiot one minute, and a hero the next. Gods, I missed him.

Percy. Even saying his name again feels like I got punched in the gut.

"Annabeth, come on! It's time for Capture the Flag!"

I turned and saw Leo running towards me. He had a crazy grin on his face, and a wild glint in his eyes.

"The Hephaestus Cabin has got some tricks up their sleeves this time, Annabeth." His face fell when he saw me and he sighed like he knew what I was thinking.

"You better not be thinking about Percy. Annabeth, stop. I miss him too. We all do. But we need to move on. Percy's gone, and not even the gods know where he is. He's not coming back."

I nearly slapped him.

"How could you say that, Leo! He has to be out there, he has to be! It's Percy. Percy. He's alive. I know he is." I turned away from him.

"I'm not in the mood, Leo. Just tell the others to go on without me." He sighed and got closer to me. I swung at him, yet Leo put his arm around my shoulder, ducking my punch. He'd gotten better at fighting. And stronger too. I tried to wriggle away, but he pulled me close.

"Annabeth, I know. You have no idea how much I miss him. But it's been five years. We need to move on. You knew Percy the best out of all of us. He'd want you to forget about him."

I looked at Leo, knowing he was right. Since when did he get so smart? I sighed and closed my eyes.

"Alright, Leo. I'll play. But I play to win. You're going down, Scrawny." He put his hand on his heart and looked at me in mock hurt.

"Scrawny? Look at these massive muscles." He flexed his arms and posed. I laughed at his feeble attempt to look strong and rolled my eyes.

"Whatever, Leo. Hey, race you to the woods!" I took off running. I could hear Leo panting behind me and I laughed again. I still missed Percy, but the ache tuned into a dull throb.

I'll find you, I thought. Percy, I will find you.
