Chapter seven: Growing up *Edited*
Lucas,1984,Huntsville, Alabama
I stare out the classroom window at a bright and sunny sky, wishing the last bell would hurry up and ring so my history class would finally be over. Today is Caleb's sixteenth birthday, his parents held him back a year when he was younger to teach him the "ways" of God. In the last few months, he's been spending less private time with me, and more time with his "friends." I think his daddy has started to scare him, ever since Thanksgiving he's been distant. I'm scared that I'm going to lose him like after school today, I was hoping to do something special for him. Instead, we're hanging out with his friends. If I didn't love him as much as I did, I would honestly just skip and go to the clubhouse by myself.
The bell finally rings, after what feels like forever, and I spring up out of my chair running to the entrance. I look around frantically, trying to spot my city boy in the rushing crowd. When I finally place him my face splits into a huge grin, but then that grin turns into a deep frown. Right next to him is Hope, a girl who is even prettier than Lily, at least according to all the jocks. I didn't see it, she has frizzy red hair, pasty lifeless skin, and dull murky green eyes. She's giggling at Caleb and touching his arm, in her short little cheerleading uniform. I feel anger form in the pit of my stomach as I stomp over to them, wanting to smash my lips to his but too scared at what would happen.
" Hey there Caleb, are you ready to go?" I ask impatiently.
" Yeah, I'm just saying goodbye to Hope here." He says smiling that gorgeous smile of his at her.
" Well hurry it up, we have better things we need to do!" I snap trying hold back my anger.
" I'm sorry, am I interrupting your birthday plans," Hope says not really looking all that sorry to me.
" Yeah, but it's perfectly fine, I'll talk to you later." He says smiling even bigger this time.
" Okay, bye Caleb, happy birthday." She says walking away while batting her eyes at him. What a desperate harlot, I think bitterly.
" Lucas, you didn't have to be so rude." He says annoyed.
" Well, you didn't have to be so flirty!" I snap.
" I wasn't flirting, I was being nice and stop acting like a jealous girlfriend in public." He says whispering the last part.
" Whatever, let's go hang out with your idiot friends," I say with an eye roll.
We meet them at the pizza parlor, where there already being loud and rowdy except Greg of course. I sit by Greg since he's the only boy I can stand out of Caleb's friends. I'm surprised that a boy as nice and funny as Greg can be friends with people like Jack. I tried liking Jack, I really did, but that boy has no redeeming qualities. He's not even nice to look at like Caleb's other friends, he has the face of a pug and the ugliest mullet I've ever seen.
" Look it's the birthday boy!" Fred shouts.
" Yeah, the birthday boy who we're gonna help get laid!" Jack shouts gleefully.
" Laid?" I ask, fear creeping into the pit of my stomach.
" Yeah, have you seen the way Hope's been looking at Caleb," Kyle says with a whistle.
" Yeah, Caleb's lucky she's so hot!" Fred exclaims.
" So you in or not, Caleb?" Jack asks rather excited.
" I think it's a bad idea if my father found out he would kill me," Caleb says, rejecting the proposal. As soon as those words are out of his mouth, it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off of me. I know we kissed before, but lately, with his distance I didn't know what to expect from him anymore.
" Oh come on, don't be a buzz kill!" Jack groans. I'm about to snap at him to shut his trap, but before I can say anything, Greg beats me to it.
" Come on it's his birthday if Caleb doesn't want too, he doesn't have too," Greg says making all the other guys finally shut up.
" Well then, what do you want to do?" Jack says clearly annoyed.
" How about we go swimming, Greg you have pool right?" Caleb asks trying to change the subject.
" Yeah, I do, and my parents are at a friend's house tonight!" Greg says excitedly.
" Which means we can raid Greg's dad's liquor cabinet!" Jack exclaims, once again excited.
" Sounds good to me!" Caleb says grinning.
We finish eating pizza and head over to Greg's house, which turns out to be this vast two story house. I never knew Greg was this rich, well at least compared to Caleb and I. We head around to his backyard which has a vast pool and even a swing set.
" Wow, I didn't know your house was this cool!" I say in awe, and when I look at Greg, he has the biggest grin on his face at my comment.
" It's nothing special." He says humbly.
" Nothing special, it's amazing!"I exclaim.
" If you think that's amazing, you should see my bedroom." He says throwing his arm casually around my shoulders.
" We're not here for your stupid room." Caleb huffs pulling me out of Greg's hold.
" Yeah Greg, we're here for your pool and beer." Jacks says as always being a kiss ass.
" You guys might not be, but Lucas seems to be," Greg says with a weird smirk.
" Come on let's hurry up and go swimming!" Fred says urgently.
" Greg, why don't you go get the beer," Caleb says gritting his teeth for some reason.
We then head over to Greg's pool, all of us stripping down to our underwear. I try to avoid looking at everyone's bodies especially Caleb's. I don't want them to catch me checking them out, and I know Caleb doesn't like when I do things like that in public. Everyone else gets in the pool, while I just sit on the edge enjoying the sun. All of a sudden, I feel someone watching me rather intensely, and I turn around to find Greg. He's looking over me with intense heat in his eyes, in a way Caleb would never dare look at me with other people around. I shake off the thought, Greg is straight he even has a girlfriend plus he's just a religious as everyone else around here is.
" Lucas, are you getting in or what!" Caleb snaps annoyed, and for a second I think he's glaring at me, but I follow his gaze to Greg.
" No, I'm not in the mood to swim right now!" I yell back just as annoyed.
" Whatever," Caleb mutters bitterly.
Caleb and friends then decide to play a game of water polo, while Greg and I just sit by the edge in our underwear and watch.
" So, have you and Caleb been friends for a while?" Greg asks curiously.
" Only a few years," I answer with a shrug.
" Really, wow you guys seem so close," Greg says surprised.
" I guess he's just been there for me when other's haven't," I say trying to be vague.
" Yeah with your dad right?" He asks and winces once the words are out of his mouth.
" Sorry, I shouldn't have said that." He says, guilty-looking away.
" No, it's fine," I say, but he doesn't look back at me.
I try to grab his attention again, but he won't look me in the eyes. Growing annoyed, I finally snap and grab a fistful of water and throw it at him, which soaks his underwear.
" Oh, no you just didn't!" He says finally looking at me with an evil smirk.
I jump up fast running away as soon as I can, but to my surprise, Greg is on my heels when I turn my head to look behind me. No one is usually as fast as me. I try to speed up and run around to the side of his house where the edge of the woods are. On my way there though, I fall flat on my face, and Greg comes tumbling down on top of me. We both laugh breathlessly, and when we finally stop, I'm left staring at Greg's face. I've never paid that much attention to him before, but with him being this close I notice his dark blue eyes, his beautifully sculpted face and then I feel his hard rock body against mine.
" You have gorgeous eyes." He says staring at me with that same heat as earlier.
"Um... You do too." I say blushing at the closeness.
" Lucas..." He trails off looking at my lips instead.
He starts to move downwards, and I feel myself begin to panic, not liking where this is going. Before I can push him off, Greg is yanked off of me rather harshly. Standing there grasping Greg's shoulder rather tightly, is Caleb who looks beyond pissed. He pulls me rather roughly to my feet and grabs my hand holding it tightly.
" Come on Lucas, we're leaving!" He snaps.
" Why, I thought you were swimming?" I ask not understanding his anger.
" Yeah, well I'm bored, so we're leaving!" He snaps tugging me away from Greg.
We walk to our secret hideout in angry silence, I have no idea what I did to make him so mad. I even avoided checking him out in public, so I have no idea what this could be about. We finally arrive at our, and he drags me angrily up to our clubhouse.
" What was that with Greg!" He yells furious.
" What do you mean?" I ask confused.
" You know exactly what I mean!" He yells his fists clenching scaring me a little. I never have seen him this mad, he's usually the one keeping a cool head while I scream at him.
" Greg was just chasing me, for splashing him," I said still confused.
" Does chasing involve kissing!" He yells slamming the door on the clubhouse behind him as he sits down.
" Kissing?" I ask, then I finally get it.
" You think Greg was going to kiss me?" I ask in denial, even though I know he was.
" Of course he was, and you were going to let him!" He snaps.
" For one I was going to push him off and for two why do you care anyway!" I finally snap back getting fed up with his attitude. I turn around to face to the back of the clubhouse, trying to ignore him.
" You know exactly why I care." He whispers brokenly, grabbing my head to look at him.
When he does, I'm met with those beautiful amber orbs that remind of leaves in the fall. I find myself getting drawn in and forgiving him, like always. He smashes our lips together angrily, but passionately, and I'm reminded of that day we fought last year. We finally pull apart, when we do I see tears start to run down his face.
" Please, don't leave me." He begs, hugging me tightly.
" Never," I whisper taking his face back into my hands, and we kiss some more.
The kissing becomes so intense, and as I scoot closer to him, I remember we're still in our underwear. I feel his hand move slowly to my underwear and slip in, when that happens I gasp losing all of my control, and I do the same to him. Wanting him to feel lost in as much pleasure as I feel. We get lost in each other's bodies, him touching an area with his hand that I've only touched myself. It feels beautiful and freeing as we get lost in each other for the rest of the night. I can feel myself shattering even more for him, and I know by this point that I'm entirely gone if he hurts me there's no way I'll come back from it.
