Daisy and Hoseok: Before it all

If you were all paying attention, you would've known that both Hoseok and Daisy noted on numerous occasions during both 'The Survivors' and 'The Solution' that they had sworn to never return to the city again after they faced a fright whilst passing through one time.

This was when Hoseok was still the famous city navigator and before they met Jungkook at camp Delta.

I noted in the book many times of a past they shared, I was contemplating doing a spin off, but decided against it and to just do a oneshot thing instead.

Depending on how this goes I might do more...

So here you go ;)

- Oneshot -

{The trip that changed it all}

"Fuck Hoseok, you're really testing my patience here, you know that right?" Daisy uttered under her breath, map clutched tightly in her dainty fingers as her eyes trailed over the numerous markings and lines scribbled over the paper. She found herself jolting to the side every time the van moved over an uneven slab of the road, city buildings passing from out the window making her feel all the more small and insignificant as they headed back towards the camps.

From the drivers seat, Hoseok let out a drastic sigh, taking a single hand off the leather steering wheel to run a hand through his tousled orange hair, the tuffs poking out in all different directions. "I know, sorry about this." he replied, biting down against his lower lip as he drove hastily through the city streets.

Rubble.

All it took was a slab of concrete to fall over their main route to send them into a panic.

Hoseok had planned out numerous different escape routes through the city, but this was something that even he struggled to comprehend. On their way in, rubble must've fallen behind their path, forcing them to divert their course, squeezing their van through any side streets possible to try and make it to one of Hoseok's alternate routes.

Although Hoseok appeared calm, Daisy knew he was far from it. She could tell from the way he tapped a finger against the steering wheel, the way his leg jittered and the slight hint of uncertainty laced throughout his usually cheerful voice.

They had passed through the city together numerous times. Heck- Hoseok had even earnt himself a title of 'the famous city navigator.'

Hoseok thought the title was bullshit.

Daisy didn't think so.

"If we take the slip road over to the right we should make it out onto a main road again," Daisy instructed, bringing the map closer to her face as she trailed a finger along one of the routes, "The edge of the city isn't too far from there."

"Got it." Hoseok responded, not taking his eyes off the road as he turned the wheel, "This one?"

"Yeah, straight ahead now."

"Cool." he replied bluntly, nerves rising high as he took the van around a tight bend, driving it carefully into a tight shadowed street. The sun couldn't pass over the tall buildings overhead leaving the space dark, haunting almost. The narrow space left them with no room for error, they couldn't turn the van around now, only head down this road with their fingers crossed.

Slapping the map against the dashboard, Daisy turned her head to the back of the van, eyes trailing over Hoseok's bow and arrow tossed in the corner as well as the perfectly stacked boxes against the back doors. "Odd that they need so much science equipment over at foxtrot." she uttered, breaking the tense atmosphere by distracting Hoseok from his nerves.

Running a hand through his tousled orange hair, Hoseok let out a calming breath, "Apparently some guy has been working on a temporary vaccine." he shrugged, "apparently they needed some equipment from the city... at first the camp asked me to travel all the way across the city but I was like, 'nah man, that's like signing a death sentence.'" he chuckled, breaking out into a grin.

Daisy couldn't help but smile back, tucking a loose strand of curly hair behind her ear as she faced the front once again.

The van was jittering violently as it rolled over the cracked cement. Daisy had to reach out a hand to the side of her door as she steadied herself. Out the front windscreen was almost black, the tall walls surrounding them damp and covered over with both vines and moss alike. Daisy found her lips parting as her eyes took in the sight, roaming over the street.

Until they heard it.

The van didn't stop... no, the vehicle jolted to a standstill, sending Daisy flying forwards in her seat whilst Hoseok's head crashed into the steering wheel, a string of curses escaping his lips as he let out a pained groan.

Daisy rose her eyes slowly out the front windshield, "What was that-"

"Hold on let me check." Hoseok reassured, switching the gears into park before pulling up the handbrake.

With his lips twisted into a frown Hoseok placed a hand against his door handle, slowly opening the van door. The door hit against the wall of the building beside them and Hoseok found himself sucking in a breath as he squeezed his way out, shutting the door with a loud thud so that he could move past it to the front of the van.

Slipping a flashlight from his pocket, Hoseok clicked down against the button, a bright white beam of light shinning out in front of him as he inspected the road ahead. Nothing was wrong with the van, the tires seemed perfectly normal. So instead of inspecting the outside, he placed a hand against the bonnet, thinking it might be an internal problem. But he paused- eyes flickering off to the side as he noticed a slight glimmer of metal catch on the light of his torch.

"Of course." he breathed, eyes growing wide as his gaze locked onto the problem.

The side street was so narrow that a stray rusted metal pipe protruding from the ground was just enough to block off the side of his tire from moving forwards. From afar, Hoseok could see that the pipe was probably weak enough to be crushed if he accelerated hard enough.

He wondered if maybe he could-

"HOSEOK GET BACK IN THE VAN!" Daisy's voice shattered the silence of the side street, her shout filled with so much horror that Hoseok felt a cold shiver run down the back of his spine.

With her door partly opened, Daisy's eyes were wide, pupils shaking with fear as she ushered for Hoseok to get back inside.

Adams apple bobbing in his throat Hoseok already knew what was creeping up behind him as the cracking of bones drummed against his ears, the dragging of feet sounding against the pavement as a low groan escaped from the creature.

Hoseok didn't even need to look behind him to know it was a horde, holding his breath as his heart beat wildly against his chest. He sprint, more so leapt back towards his door of the van, only to let out a frightened curse at the sight of a single walker positioned right beside the drivers side of the van. Its jaw hung loosely from its mouth, rotting flesh peeling from its reaching arms as it dived towards Hoseok's trembling figure.

In one fluid movement, Hoseok dodged the horrifying creature, dashing around the front of the van and making it to the passenger side instead. As the horde of both walkers and runners alike began to close in on Hoseok's back, Daisy lost no time in swinging the door open for her boyfriend. "GET IN!"

The oversized jacket hung over Hoseok's form was quick to be tugged at, sending the male stumbling back in the slightest and almost into the pack of the undead behind him. Daisy felt her heart leap from her chest in that moment, reaching down from the passenger seat as she wrapped her fingers tightly around the clothing over Hoseok's shoulders, gritting her teeth as she pulled the slender male back towards her, allowing for him to reach her side.

With frantic movements, Hoseok found himself leaping into the vehicle, apologising under his breath as he basically fell over his girlfriend's lap, falling over her form before pushing himself past the passenger seat and scrambling into the back of the van.

With her small stature, Daisy attempted to kick away a few walkers clawing at the still semi-open door. She had failed to close it after Hoseok had entered, grunting as with all of her strength she tried to close the door again. "HOSEOK HURRY THE FUCK UP!" she screamed, voice shrill with terror as the tattered limbs of the undead reached at her form, ripping away at the bottom of her jeans as they began trying to tug her out.

From the back of the van, Hoseok was desperately casting boxes aside, moving them away from his bow and arrows scattered carelessly across the floor of the van. After the jolt they'd experienced earlier, one of the heavier boxes had trapped Hoseok's bow underneath it... but the male was yet to realise.

"IM TRYING OKAY!" he shout back, one hand scrunched through his mess of hair as he tugged at his roots. In his other hand was a single metal arrow, held by his side as he searched for his bow.

Daisy was quick to kick a runner off from the door, still struggling with a couple of the undead, "JUST THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE!" she exclaimed, tears beginning to prick at the corners of her eyes despite the anger that boiled to the surface. She couldn't do anything right now, if she reached for the knife balanced against the dashboard then she'd loose her hold on the door, allowing for the walkers and runners alike to force their way inside.

She wanted so badly to scream as a walker grabbed a firm hold of her ankle, squeezing it with such pressure as the rotting hands began to tug at her smaller form. She felt like a rag doll the moment she felt herself slipping out from the passenger seat, the horde proving to be too much as she was being pulled out into the clutches of the undead.

From the back of the van, Hoseok had broken out into a cold sweat. He inhaled a sharp breath  as he failed to locate his bow, ultimately deciding to pick up a single stray arrow from the cold floor and holding it tightly in his grasp.

"HOSEOK!" Daisy screamed from the front seat, blood curdling to the ears as Hoseok's heart froze for a second, his head snapping in the direction of his girlfriend. The colour drained from his face.

Her leg was being tugged violently out the door, small hands clutching desperately to her seat in an attempt to not fall to her demise. Her teeth were clenched, hot tears welling up in her eyes as she began to kick with her free leg at the decaying hands wrapped around her ankle.

With supernatural like reflexes, Hoseok jumped into action, leaping over to where Daisy struggled. Slipping his hand around her waist, he tugged the smaller girl into his chest, raising the arrow in his other hand as he dug the metal tip deep into the skull of one of the walkers.

The zombie was quick to loose its vice like grip around daisy's ankle, allowing for Hoseok to rip the girl from the clutches of the undead, not even thinking twice as he threw her into the drivers seat.

"DRIVE!" he shout, grabbing onto the van roof as he kicked away the walkers still clawing at the door. His veins were visible from his neck as a hand grabbed at his leg, squeezing it with such force before he kicked it away.

Daisy's face went blank, "But it wasn't working before-"

"JUST SWITCH ON THE IGNITION-" Hoseok's face contorted as he shoved away another infected, reaching out a hand towards the open van door as he attempted to slam it shut, "-AND FLOOR IT!"

Daisy didn't even question Hoseok's words, expression steady and face stern as she twisted the key, engine roaring to life as she placed her hands firmly against the steering wheel. Her knuckles went white as she gripped at the cold leather, eyes darting past the windscreen as she took in the dozen walkers dragging their jangled limbs towards the vehicle.

Letting out a breath, she calmed herself. "Hold on." she uttered, switching the gearstick into drive before slamming a foot against the accelerator, back falling against the drivers seat as the van launched forwards.

There was a slight bump as they broke past the old pipe, the sound of cracking bones and crushing limps sounding over the engine as Daisy floored it past the horde. From the passenger seat, Hoseok was finally able to close the door, chest rising and falling at a heavy pace as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.

He collapsed into the seat, eyes blank and void of any emotion as he stare out the front windscreen. The van had slowly lowered its speed back into a normal pace as they cleared the horde.

"Daisy?"

She kept her eyes trained on the road, "Hmm?" she sounded, in way too much shock to form words.

Hoseok gulped, "This is getting tiring." he began, sitting up a little in his seat, "Time after time we encounter something dangerous in the city... and this time," he swallowed thickly, eyes trailing over to Daisy, "was just too close."

Tucking her curly hair behind her ears, Daisy let out a troublesome sigh, "I couldn't agree more."

Hoseok gave a sad smile, "You know how I've been turning down offers from camps?"

Daisy chuckled, "Yeah. You say conforming to a camp's rule is bullshit and you'd prefer for us to do small jobs and solo work."

Ruffling his mess of hair, Hoseok inhaled, "Yeah..." he paused before he continued, "Well, I think it might be safer if we do work with a camp."

"Oh, a sudden change of heart now huh?" she coaxed, lip twitching up into a sly smirk as she rose a brow, "Is Hoseokie finally ready to start a new chapter?"

"Shut up." Hoseok chuckled, lightening the grim mood in the slightest, "I received a job offer from Delta."

"What for?"

Hoseok leant against the door, "They're putting together a new team. Their best squad leader, 'Jungkook' or whatever needs a navigator... and they've requested me." he explained, letting out a huff, "They said you could work as a scientist if you'd like."

With a soft smile, Daisy diverted her eyes to Hoseok. She couldn't help but feel content knowing that he was over working alone... it was time he finally worked within a group. "Alright." she spoke tenderly, watching Hoseok begin to relax from the corner of her eye, the male getting some well deserved rest as he leant against the door. Daisy smiled, "We can deliver these boxes to foxtrot."

"And then head over to Delta."
