Chapter 43 ~ A Wonderful, Awful Idea!

I didn't really know what to say.
At first, I just mumbled something that even I didn't understand.
"Kat?" Jake asked again.
"I'm Notch's daughter." I uttered. "I'm Notch's daughter. How in the Nether did that happen...?"
"I'm not sure." Steve admitted after he realized I was talking to him. "Like I said, I've been trying to get out of the loop for a while. All I know is that you're family. It makes sense that it's Notch, because sixteen years ago, Herobrine flipped about something. I don't exactly know what, but it's most likely Notch falling in love and having a baby with someone."
"And he's not allowed to?" Abby asked.
Steve shook his head. "When we became adults— yes, we aged until eighteen years— we started becoming mature. We realized that we weren't going to be able to fall in love."
"Mortals die, gods live on." Jona said bluntly.
"Yes. We made a pact— no relationships. And especially no children."
"And I was born." I rested my chin on my hand.
"Pretty much that." Steve said without any emotion.
"What about the whole thing with her being asleep?" Mastermind leaned against the wall.
He shrugged. "I dunno."
"Thank you for that."
"But the prophecy." I looked up again. "What does the rest even mean?"
"'One who will make the war accrue'." Infinity repeated. "What does accrue mean?"
"It usually associates with payments, but it means grow by addition." Jake answered for her, looking smug.
"Nerd."
Abby asked, "So you're going to make the war... grow?"
"The impact, I guess." I spread my hands.
"'Shall face the odds and change the war, and do what has not been done before'." Gordon said. "That's pretty vague."
"'Beware, for a chance may occur.
Wherever they stand, the weight will transfer'." Abby frowned at her hands. "What does 'the weight' mean?"
"It could be good, it could be bad." Steve shrugged again. "Prophecies are very vague, as our spiky haired friend said before."
"What about 'the ultimate sacrifice must be made by the victim who in time will be betrayed'?"
Jake growled. "J betrayed us."
"So I have to make a huge sacrifice." I sighed. "No pressure or anything."
"Don't forget the 'bonds will be broken, and knots will be untied. Minecraft will change forever, whatever they decide' part. That's a biggy." Steve reminded us. "That part is pretty common in prophecies."
"So we know that I'm gonna change the war and the world, and it can either be in a good or a bad way." I stood up and ran both hands through my hair. "That's great. Just perfect."
"Also that you're Notch's daughter." Gordon pointed at me. Infinity punched him, and he added an "Ow."
"If you're a god's daughter," Skye raised his hand, "shouldn't you have, like, powers?"
My hands fell at my side. I was worried they'd ask that.
"Or are you like..." Infinity glanced at Steve.
"You're a mouthy one, aren't you?" He asked, leaning back.
Infinity simply smiled.
"I..." I exhaled. "I can run faster. Heal quicker. Also, breathe underwater. And I guess I can manipulate dreams better? I'm not sure about what else."
"That explains the lake in the Bladville park!" Jake exclaimed. "And the fight against Herobrine in the water."
"That is so cool." Jona breathed out in awe.
"I wonder if I can program myself to do that." Mastermind looked up in thought.
"I never really think about it being cool anymore." I admitted. "It's beneficial, yes. Healing and breathing underwater has their advantages, but it's hard to think of them as cool things when I am reminded of where they come from."
"I'm guessing you two are going to have a heart-to-heart when we get back?" asked Infinity.
"More or less."
"Speaking of getting back," Steve interrupted, "when do we plan on leaving?"
"We?" Jake raised his eyebrows.
"We. I'm coming with you guys."
"I thought you wanted to stay out of everything. What made you change your mind?"
"You guys were right before." He pursed his lips, obviously not liking being wrong. "I usually don't like interfering, but I need to. I have to take charge and accept responsibility now before I have to live with the consequences later."
"That's good advice." I nodded. "I'm glad you're coming with us. You can really help us."
"I'm just wondering how my brother is going to react to me returning." He laughed, and got up as well. "But that's something to worry about later. It's getting late. I unfortunately don't have eight more beds—"
"We can crash anywhere." I interrupted him. "It's really no problem."
"I once slept in a hay stack next to a pregnant sheep." Gordon shrugged.
Abby stared at him, her head tilted at a forty five degree angle. "Do we want to know?"
"Probably not. She gave birth when I was asleep. When I woke up, I had that gooey stuff all over my—"
"Like we said." Infinity cut him off. "No problem."
He nodded. "Alright. I have a large room upstairs you all can be in." Steve whistled. "Salem!"
The spider looked up at his owner, and jumped onto the wall. He crawled across the ceiling, and leapt into Steve. Steve caught him, and the spider clung to his chest like a little kid.
"Who says mobs aren't adorable?" Steve smiled at his friend and pet his back.
"Yeah..." Skye looked at the spider's eight eyes with a weird look. "Adorable."

"Alright, here's your bedroom." Steve gestured to the wide hall in front of him. It was almost a square, with a door to the right and a ladder going up next to it.
"Cozy." I walked around. I stopped in front of the ladder. "So where does this lead?"
"Attic. Nothing big up there." He tucked his hands into his pockets, Salem still clung to his chest. "Just a nether portal."
"A nether portal?" Abby looked up the ladder. "Those are extremely dangerous if they aren't protected well ."
"I have a fence to fend off the pigmen."
"Yes, but Herobrine rules the nether."
Steve chuckled. "He doesn't own the tunnels in the walls. I can walk a thousand blocks and he wouldn't even know I'm there."
"Is that how you get around in the overworld?" Mastermind asked. "Jump in the nether, walk a hundred blocks, make a new portal and jump out?"
"Precisely. I can make new tunnels, have new places for nether portals, go to the overworld to get what I need, and get back into the nether. Then I'd just break the portal so I don't waste obsidian, and block up the paths so I'm never found. It's amazing since a block in the nether is eight blocks in the real world.
"Smart." Infinity shook her head.
"Wait." I blinked. Then, I started to grin. I had an idea. An awful idea! The Kat got a wonderful, awful idea!
(From How The Grinch Stole Christmas)
Okay. It wasn't actually awful.
"I'm scared." Infinity whispered.
"Relax." I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. "I have an idea. And it doesn't involve minecarts. Why don't we use Steve's nether tunnel system to shorten our journey?"
"I was thinking the exact same thing." Jake said. "We head through the nether. Walk a while, build a portal, end up in the overworld near or in Notch City."
Jona spoke up. "One problem. Kat's situation with tight spaces."
I winced. "Right."
"Ummmm netherrack is easy to mine?" Abby suggested. "We can take continuous breaks and mine out medium sized rooms. It would slow us down a bit, but we should be able to arrive when the rebels do."
"Good ideas all around." Steve said. "We can leave tomorrow morning. But for tonight, you all need your beauty sleep. I'll be in my room if you need me. And Salem will be with me so you guys don't freak out if you wake up with a spider on your stomach. He likes to cuddle."
"I bet." Mastermind said, shuffling away from the owner and his pet.

In the morning, we jumped through the portal.
Steve took Salem, since he didn't know how long it would be until he went back to his house. He also took a secret stash of diamond armor and weapons, but didn't put the armor on, since it was hot in the nether.
And man, it was hot.
As soon as we jumped through, I immediately regretted wearing a skintight ninja suit that covered ninety seven percent of my body. The air was humid and warm. I noticed we were in a room surrounded by netherrack. It was about ten blocks wide, twelve blocks long, and eight blocks tall.
"Welp." I looked around. "Does anyone know which way to go?"
"You think I just walk around blindly?" Steve raised an eyebrow at me as he pulled out two maps. He gave one to Gordon to hold, and opened the other one. "One is the nether. The other is the overworld. Both maps extend over fifty thousand blocks."
I walked over to the overworld map he was looking at, and whistled. "Is that tiny dot Notch City?"
"And that is Bladville." He pointed to another dot far away. "And this is my swamp." He pointed to a small dark greenish gray area on the map. It was about a fourth of the way from Bladville to Notch City. "If we didn't stop, we'd get there in only a few days. However we will stop often, so it'll take maybe a little less than a week. Five days at the least."
"I'll take it." I said. "Which direction?"
"That way." He pointed ahead, in front of where we jumped out of the portal. He rolled up the map, put it away, took Gordon's map and unrolled it. "We will reach an opening soon, so we can just head a few dozen blocks to the right to avoid that."
"How'd you get these maps?" Jake asked him after he put away the second one.
"Classified godly information. You wouldn't understand." As Jake narrowed his eyes, Steve pulled out a diamond enchanted pickaxe. "Who wants first shift?"
Everyone took a step back, except for Jona.
He sighed. "Just because I'm a miner doesn't mean I like to constantly make tunnels."
"That's basically what you do." Skye patted him on the back. "So you'll be fine."

~ Notch's PoV (Ikr) ~
I paced around in my office, unsure of what to do. I should have known what to do. I should've known everything. I should've been calm and collected. Yet there I was, freaking out about what happened in Bladville.
A few days ago, we got news that Bladville's head councilman had passed suddenly. It was foul play, so of course I suspected that it was my brother's work. Foul play was his main game. Always has been, always will be.
Then I heard more private news that the rebels had moved. Their base was located, but it was deserted. Big, empty rooms with some furniture in them were all that was left. They abandoned it right before it was discovered, took almost everything.
That meant Kat and her group were gone as well. I was assuming that they were heading back to Notch City, but it was going to be at least a few weeks before they arrived. Unless they somehow managed to get underground and continue there.
While I cared about all those people, the most horrific news was young Damen's death. The boy was a charming and kind lad, and I was upset to see him leave so soon. It may seem selfish, but what I was most worried about was the item he held. My code.
I didn't know how Herobrine knew about my history with Damen's family. It was such a tight bond with his grandfather, but it was under the radar. I trusted the man with my life, and my code, since I feared the day my brother would try to find it. Then it was passed down from father to son until Damen. I was planning on taking it back, for he was just a mere teenager, and didn't deserve to have the fate of the world on his shoulders. But it was too late.
However, since the world didn't blow up yet, I predicted that he either hid it, or gave it to someone.
Knock knock.
My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.
"Come in." I said calmly.
The person who knocked opened the door and walked in. It was Adam.
"Hello." I smiled. "What is it?"
He looked around at my office. It was almost a miniature replication of the council room, with a circular design and glass dome ceiling. My desk was to the left, and a large collection of books on shelves next to a couch and two chairs was to the right. In the back was a window and a few paintings on the wall. The whole thing has a Quartz and glowstone theme, with yellow carpet.
"Hi." He said awkwardly, shutting the door behind him. He then cleared his throat. "We... well..."
"Is something wrong?" I started to feel panic, but I didn't let it show in my tone.
"Well, the others and I were... worried about you."
"Why would that be?"
"You've been keeping to yourself often. You only leave your house for a few hours of the day. I don't mean to instruct your life, but it just doesn't seem like your behavior. To be a recluse."
I stared at him for a few seconds. Finally, I sighed. "Adam, when you think of my personality, what do you think of?"
"Brave, calm, heroic, to put it in simple terms."
I smiled. "Thank you. Would it shock you if I said that all this time, I had been extremely worried about the future? That I have hid myself away so the same mood will not reflect on you all?"
"Yes." He frowned. "But sir, we are your council. And, if you consider it to be true, then your friends as well. I understand we do not know as much as you, nor would we ever, but we are all fighting the same war. If you have worries, or doubts, I believe they should be shared."
"You've certainly grown." I laughed. "I cannot believe it is you giving me advice now, instead of the other way around. Thank you, Adam."
"I'm also giving myself advice too, hoping it works." He rubbed the back of his head. "This whole situation has me on the edge. I have to think about not only the fate of the world, but also of my family."
"It is harder with loved ones." I admitted.
"Yep."
I looked outside the window in thought. "Adam. If you had a single second to choose between saving your family, and saving the rest of the world, which would be your first choice?"
"If I didn't think about it, at first my first choice would be my family. The people I chose to spend my life with. My baby boy, who I helped make and mold."
"And if you did think?"
He didn't answer.
I nodded. "I understand. Hard to choose between your family and the world if your family is your world, eh?"
He gave a huff for a laugh. "Yeah. It's one of those questions that you can't answer without feeling heartless. For me, at least."
I exhaled. "Yes. Family is a really tough subject for a lot of people."

Ahhhh it's Friday I can sleep in finally
Tbh I was making Steve's house in Minecraft, and I was in the attic wondering what to put there. And I thought "I'll just put a nether portal cause why not" and then I thought "oh hey that's a good form of transportation" so like that whole idea was created about a week ago.
Also chill you animals I'll probably have some action soon.
Plus I added that little useless Notch PoV because some people were like "you should add more povs tbh" and I'm thinking "no that'll ruin things just shhhhh"
What am I even saying anymore. Why are you guys still listening to me.
Question: favorite way to die in Minecraft?
^ lmao idk I got no ideas
Rock on, my little rebels.
