Chapter 34 ~ I Came Here To Fight!

Phew that was a close one. I almost updated on time. Had to wait a minute.

Lmao I hinted to people on kik that I was going to do something that everyone hated. I made everyone think that I wasn't going to update, but really there just isn't a lot of action in the chapter even though I said there was going to be.

Barely edited. Help out with mitsakes fam

I stood on the top of the building, my left foot on the stone slab on the edge. I stared down at the ground, around eight stories down. It was miraculous that we managed to sneak into a closed office building and make it to the roof without anyone seeing. There was security rolling around, and we were a big group, but everyone could surprisingly be sneaky when they wanted to.

My gaze travelled up to the mansion in the night. It was about 100 blocks away. It was no problem to get to the roof; the elytra could go further than that. The mansion was a stone and quartz four story house with more windows than I could count. The front was a hedge garden with a small maze, and with a fountain in the middle of the stone path that led up to the building. There was no fence, just a hedge wall that was easy to get over.

"Not even Notch's house is that fancy." Gordon whistled.

"He's probably self centered." Infinity played with the string on her bow. "A big jerk."

"Is he?" Jake asked Scarlet and Damen.

They shrugged. Damen answered, "I honestly have no idea. Mayor Fredrick doesn't really show his face often. Heck, I'm not even sure if he really controls any aspects of Bladville."

"The council says that most of the things they decide come from him." Scarlet said without looking up. She ran the sharp axe head down her iron scythe's blade, making it wicked sharp. "Of course, we learned not to trust anything they say."

"Of course." I mumbled. I remembered Jane. She was so nice to us. She made us feel welcome. But then she turned her back on us.

"Gordon, have you seen anything yet?" Jake asked him.

"No, not yet." Gordon was looking for the arrow that was supposed to pop up any second. "Come on, Abby. You got this."

Abby glanced up from her hiding place at the front. There was a guard by the door, and one walking back and forth on the pathway. If the others flew in now, they'd be noticed for sure.

"Ready guys?" Abby whispered to Elly and Rein. They both nodded back. She stood up from behind the bushes, and walked out.

"Hi boys!" She called. Both of the guards looked at her.

"Who are you?" The one by the front door called sternly. He had his hand on his hip where his sword rested.

"You're not supposed to be here." The other one warned.

"I know." Abby said. "But my friends and I are doing a project: the life of a security guard."

"We already asked questions to a day guard, but we're really curious about the heroes that work during the night." Elly pulled out her notebook and quill, ready to write.

The guards looked at each other. One said curiously, "Who did you question?"

Rein thought hard. What was a really generic name that she could use? "... Todd."

He narrowed his eyes. The three girls thought they were busted. Instead, he laughed. "Todd? That doofus? He can barely use a sword, nevertheless tell you about all the tough things we have to go through. Come here Stewart, we're being interviewed."

The front door guard walked over, saying, "Alright Jim. But only for a few minutes."

"Okay, so first of all," Elly said, "We'd like to know how fit you have to be to get the job. How's your aim with a bow?"

Jim shifted his weight on his other foot. "Well, we don't really use them often." He pulled out a bow. "But I am a pretty good archer."

"Can you demonstrate?" Rein asked.

"Shoot the top of that giant tree!" Abby excitedly pointed to the tallest tree, where Gordon was looking at before.

"Okay." He shrugged. He took out an arrow, aimed, and shot. It barely caught the edge of the leaves.

"Wow!" All of the girls exclaimed. Elly's excitement was actually genuine. She couldn't believe it was that easy to trick the guards.

~ Kat's PoV ~

I saw Abby, Elly, and Rein walk out of their hiding place. Then, the guards came over. One took out his bow, and shot the top of the tree.

"That's the signal!" Gordon announced.

We all quickly got our elytras on. The straps were around the shoulders, so I had to be careful. The wings were lighter than I thought, despite being made of heavy materials.

"Alright everyone, gather around." I stood on the edge of the building so I was elevated by half a block. Everyone formed a semi circle in front of me. "This may be our most dangerous mission yet."

"You broke into an army base. Alone." Scarlet recalled.

"Shh!" I shushed her. "Fine. This is a dangerous mission, people. We didn't get to try out the elytras, so this is our first time. Just keep the wings extended, and circle around the roof when we get there. The landing will be bumpy, but we'll manage. From there, we'll regroup and go over what to do next. Any questions?"

"What if we get caught?" Gordon raised his hand.

"That is..." I blinked. "actually a smart question. Huh. Well, don't."

"That is not a smart answer." He frowned.

"Ready everyone?" I asked.

Everyone nodded or said, "Ready."

I smiled. "Let's go break into a mansion." I turned around, took a deep breath, and jumped off the edge.

I fell flat through the air for a few seconds, the wind whipping at my face. A second later, I grabbed the wings, and pulled them open. They locked, and I slowly let go. I jerked from the whiplash of the wings catching the air. Finally, I started gliding quickly across the night sky.

I wanted to scream in delight. I wanted to do crazy tricks. It was an amazing feeling of flying through the night, thinking you could reach your hand up and touch the stars. I wanted to enjoy it for as long as I could. However, we had a mission to do.

I looked back behind me. Everyone else was gliding behind me or above me. They all looked as amazed as I was.

I turned my view back downward to look at the front of the mansion. Abby, Elly, and Rein were interviewing the guards as planned. They were too busy bragging to notice eight people flying above them.

The roof was about fifteen blocks below us when we were over it. I leaned down to the left, and made a slow circle going downward. Finally, I grabbed the wing edges and shut them a few blocks above the stone. I fell, and landed in a crouch.

The wings were put into my inventory, and I looked around. The roof was made of stone, with entrances to vents, and random blocks sticking up to look fancier.

Everyone else started landing. I checked around to see if there was any security on the roof, but none. As I expected.

"Everybody okay?" Jake asked.

We all nodded or whispered yes.

"Okay." I pulled out the blueprint of the layout. "We're going to have to go through the vents to get to the office. If Mayor Fredrick isn't there, that's fine. If he is, we will have to pull some risky plays."

"Like?" Jona asked.

I let my mouth hang open for a second. "I'll think of that on the way." To that, he sighed.

"The vent that we go in should be..." Without taking my eyes off the paper, I pointed to a vent opening relatively close. "There."

Skye and Damen broke open the iron trapdoor as I rolled up the blueprints.

Honestly, I really didn't want to go into the vents. Most of the nightmares I had ended up having me suffocate in a small space at some point. That made me really fear small spaces. However, I had to suck it up and not be claustrophobic on the mission. People were counting on me. And there wasn't a better option for us to choose.

"So who's first?" Gordon smiled nervously.

"I got it." I said after a few seconds of silence. "Wait a moment after I get down, then follow after. Try not to make too much noise— I don't want to have to fight anyone."

"Mate!" Damen exclaimed. "I came here to fight!"

"You came here in case there was a fight. We never decided there was going to be one." Infinity raised her eyebrows. Then, she whispered, "I want one too, don't worry."

I ignored that last part, and climbed into the vent. I pressed my hands and feet on the sides and slid down the shaft. It was only a few blocks down, so I quickly touched ground and crouched down. There were three options: straight, left, or right. I crawled to the right a little bit, and waited for the next person to come down. Sure enough, I heard the quiet slide of someone. Jake crouched down, and crawled to me, giving me a smile.

After everyone came down (in this order: me, Jake, Infinity, Scarlet, Gordon, Jona, Skye, and Damen), I started to go forward. It was very nerve racking hearing all the noise, but hopefully it was muffled from below. Hopefully. We also had to go over a few open vents in which I was able to even see a guard at some points, but we weren't caught.

The whole thing was a maze— we went left, right, straight, down, right, right, I was so happy I had the blueprints otherwise we would've been hopelessly lost.

Finally, I stopped at one iron trapdoor in the floor. I peered through, and whispered to Jake, "This is it. Pass it on."

As the message went down the line, I got out a diamond pickaxe. I broke the trapdoor, caught it before it fell, and put it in my inventory. I dipped my head down to see the room.

It was a square room with red carpet and quartz walls. Below me was a wall of bookshelves, and in the middle of the room was a desk. There was a computer on it, a chair in front of the monitor, and a chair on the other side. A regular window was behind the desk. On the opposite end of me were filing cabinets, and paintings were along the walls. The room was empty.

"All clear." I said to Jake. He nodded, and I moved up in front of the hole. I kicked my feet down into the open air, and lowered myself onto the bookshelf. However, as soon as I touched the wood, I heard voices.

"... feel like it would be a good idea."

The voice was male, and coming from the hall. It sounded like it was getting closer.

"Someone's coming." I hissed. "Help me up."

Before I could say the word 'help', Jake grabbed my arms and pulled me up. I just barely got into the vent before the door opened.

Two people walked into the room. One was an older man who's black hair was just starting to gray. He had brown eyes, and a tan complexion. He had on a dark gray suit.

The other was one we all recognized: Shane. The attire didn't change at all. However, his usual smirky face was replaced with an innocent and concerned look. He carried a notebook in one hand.

"You do realize that we can't just cancel the next big mining trips." Shane said.

"Can't we?" The other guy, Mayor Fredrick, sat down in his chair. "I heard that Herobrine managed to ally with the cave spiders. They will be more dangerous now."

Shane's smile almost surfaced. "I highly doubt that. We need the resources, since some of our army equipment was stolen." I made a face at that. "I can order the army to give them some armor if you're that worried."

"Even diamond armor is impenetrable. I just don't want any lives lost." He rubbed his forehead.

Shane nodded. "Very well. If you wish, we will postpone it until matters are safer." He got out a quill and wrote on the paper. Now, the mayor couldn't see what he was writing, but I could from my spot. And he wrote specifically, Tell miners to continue trip.

So this was it. Shane was the person controlling the mayor. He just did the exact opposite of what the sweet innocent mayor said to do. He did it subtly, and most likely made sure the mayor didn't hear about that certain problem ever again. And the poor leader didn't know he was being duped.

"You know, Shane, you're a good kid." Mayor Fredrick suddenly said. "Sure you messed up a few times, but I'm a believer of the concept of giving people multiple chances. You're a great assistant."

The trickster smiled. "Thank you, sir. Now if you'd excuse me, I need to tell them to cancel the trip."

He got up, and left the room. I looked back at Jake and mouthed, now what? He shrugged back.

Amazingly, however, the mayor got up a few seconds later, and left the room.

"That was easy and purely coincidental." I whispered back at Jake.

"What's the hold up?" Gordon hissed.

I hopped down on the bookshelf. I signaled to Jake that it was okay to come down, and jumped to the floor.

Instead of waiting for everyone else, I immediately went for the filing cabinets. If we couldn't go back to Notch City with Bladville as an ally, maybe we could've learned some of their secrets.

When I opened the first one, there was nothing but a stack of blank papers. I frowned, opened another, and saw the same thing. The third one actually had papers, but they were only about reviews about the festival.

"Guys, these are useless." I called. "They apparently don't trust the mayor with important things. We're going to have to go with plan C."

"Remind me what plan C is?" Gordon raised his hand.

Damen shrugged at him. "I didn't even know we had a plan C."

"That's because I just made it up. There's a room on the fourth level, right above us down the hall. On the map, it said it was the assistant's office. It wasn't important before, but now that we know Shane is the little rat, we can find something in there to prove what his real purposes are... Are you okay Infinity?" I asked that last part because her skin seemed to become more pale by the second.

"Yeah, I'm fine." She quickly as needed."Just a little nervous about the change of plans."

"Infinity? Nervous?" I laughed. "Come on, you're the toughest girl I know. If anyone can roll with a change up of life or death plans, it's you."

She swallowed, and nodded. "You're right." She smiled. "Thanks Kat."

"Shouldn't we still look around here, to make sure nothing important is here?" Skye asked.

"Splitting up is a bad idea." Scarlet shook her head.

"I don't know." Jona said. "I'd rather have half of us caught than all of us."

"I'd rather have none of us get caught." Jake muttered. He then added, "But that's actually a good idea. A smaller group would be easier to move around."

"So Scarlet and I go, you all stay here." Skye explained. "Good? Good."

"Not good." Scarlet took a step away from Skye. "It's better to keep the teams even. Skye, you go with Jona, Gordon, and Damen. I'll stay here with Infinity, Jake, and Kat."

I was surprised she included me in the same group as her. Nevertheless, everyone agreed. I gave Gordon the blueprints (which might have been a bad idea). The four boys climbed up the bookshelves and into the vents. The hole was left open so we could escape.

We spent the next minute searching through all the filing cabinets. Midway, I went over to his computer and sat down. He had no password protecting the few seconds he held. If he even had any.

Actually, he didn't. I went through most of the visible links and crap, but nothing. There was one interesting writers website where you could write books and read other books that amateur writers made. It was pretty cool.

"Excuse me."

I immediately stood up at the new voice. Right in the doorway was Mayor Fredrick.

"May I ask you what you are doing in my office?"

I was gonna write more but I didn't want to miss the deadline. So Imma start the next part immediately.

Idk what to say about this chapter tbh. Start your own little thing in the comments.
