Part 18
In a single fluid motion the doctor started stepping forward towards us in a great speed, it was so fast; it was as if he teleported. Once he appeared, right in front of me, he began to look over Lily. Pity clouds his eyes, immediately, he pushes the man out of the way and grabs the handles. He left in a flight to the end of the hall.
Great, not this again, but, I must make sure Lily is alright; I have to make sure she is safe. What if the doctor wants to ask questions? I have to stay for that. By now he is already at the end of the hallway with Lily about to turn. If I don't start running now, I won't be able to tell where they are going. That means I won't be able to learn how Lily is doing if Austin and Kristin will still have a mom. If I don't go, I won't be able to see if she even survives.
One step in front of the other I start, pounding my feet on the tile, then pushing my body away and travel towards the doctor and an injured Lily. The rubber of my soles rub against the clean tile, squeaking with every step my arms bent at my side, and my fists clenched. With every step, my hair bounces, hitting my shoulders, repetitively. With every step I am brought closer to the truth. A truth that I don't know if I can take.
In a blink of an eye the doctor and Lily had disappeared. With that my legs begin to move faster. My feet scramble along the tile, squeaking, and leaving an echo of my shoes imitation of a mouse. I scamper to the last known place of Lily and the doctor. Once I reach the corner my feat come to an abrupt stop, causing my entire body to come to an immediate halt.
My heads whips from one side to the other. First, to the left, the only thing is a vacant hallway filled with waiting areas. Then, to the right, where I recognize the back of a man's head and his scrub, the same as the doctors.
"H-Hold on!" I wept, reaching out to them. The doctor came out to a stop and looked around a little as if he . "Hold on!" I screamed even louder. He must of actually caught my demand, because he turned around and scanned the hall, until he saw me. We locked our gaze to the point of awkwardness until I final broke it with walking towards them. noticed my voice. We continued our way to the room where Lily will be recovered.
"Come on,", the doctor started, "we have to hurry. I don't know if she will make it past examination." My breath came to an immediate halt, the thought of Lily dead, leaving behind two children. My lungs could no longer take in the oxygen my body so much longed for.
"N-No, that can't be." I said.
"What, couldn't hear you, speak up some." the doctor responded.
"She can't die."
"I'll do the best I can. She your mom?"
"No, I told the nurse, I found her at a site of a car crash."
"Then why the heck didn't you call an ambulance?"
"I did. they were taking to long. and I know she wouldn't make it."
"You're not one to make those calls!"
"She was going to die!"
"What you did was completely irresponsible!" By now we somehow managed to stop in the middle of the hall during our argument. He continued yelling at me about what I did was completely, and utterly irresponsible, as I begin to notice that people are beginning to stare. One by one another pair of eyes turn our direction until every child nurse and parent is staring at us.
"Shut up already!" This finally made him shut-up and realize that we were becoming the main act in a surprise performance for everyone in the hallway. "Lily is as good as dead right now, and as a doctor, you're suppose to fix that, not worry about me bringing in Lily!"
He mumbled something slightly above a whisper in response, and walked away into a room on our left. I followed in to the room and saw the doctor transferring Lily to the bed.
"Here, let me help you." I grabbed on to her feet as h grabbed onto her, under her arms.
"On three." He said to me and singled with his that he was ready. "One, two, three." He continued, and we lifted her up and placed her on the bed. We tried to move her as little as possible, but that was a challenge already.
He began rushing around, gathering items, and placing them all together on a counter near Lily. Once he seemed finished with that, he started turning on all these machines and hooking them up to Lily. I didn't know what to do, so I just sat down and took out my phone.
The first thing I saw was 'Twenty missed calls from Mom and Dad'. Dang it! They're going to kill me. I have to call them back, but I know that when I do, I will never hear the end of it. I stepped out into the hall, while the doctor was gathering his team to assist him with Lily. Once I am in a place where no one could hear me I dial my mom.
"Hello?"
